Ambiance is really nice however, beware that they will try to add on food and drink items that you didn't order. If you have a large group, they won't split orders. They'll make you do the math and tack on the extra items. We definitely paid more than we should've. We had some family members that flew in the day after and ate here too and let us know they did the same thing to them. Food was ok, not great. Looks good for pictures though. Watch out for the tequila scam. If they ask if you want to "try a shot of tequila" just say NO. Or just be that guy and ask how much when they roll the cart of bottles out. Still it was unprofessional to gouge a couple customers $40 / shot when the going rate in town is around $5 / shot. Food was okay. My shrimp were kind of dry and flavorless. And they were put on a shallow bed of rice and sliced tomatoes. Looked pretty when they flamed it at the table but otherwise rather ordinary and spartan. Not worth 400 pesos. Roaming mariachi bands was fun, but overall left this place feeling like it's all flare and an illusion of hospitality. Just say no if the bands, parakeet man, or server solicits you something. What a nice restaurant! I have been here twice already on visit is to GDL and I really love coming here. The space feels like you in an hacienda and it's just so green and pretty. We invited some family for a pre road trip lunch and restaurant exceeded our expectations. Ambience is very pleasant and tranquil with a rustic feel. Towards end of lunch a mariachi began to play - we were on our way out. Service is superb! Our server and manager kept checking in on us and suggested various cocktails/dishes. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful, I mean I was speechless when walking through it. The customer service is stellar and the food prices are super fair. Everything we tried was pretty good although I would not recommend the pineapple mango salad which fell apart too easily and was just ok when it comes to taste. The margaritas we ordered were as flavorful and delicious as they were beautiful! We ordered many dishes and shared a couple bites of each for our large party of 7. Do not go here! Attended a pre wedding party here on 6/28. During food service table was approached by employees offering shots of tequila. We assumed part of open bar. At the end of party almost every table was presented with a bill for hundreds of dollars US for the $50 /each US shots. One table had a bill of $1300 US for tequila that cost $165 US per bottle. This was a party attended by over 160 people. For those who refused to pay the charges were added on to hosts bill. Do not go here. If you do you better ask the cost before you accept any tequila shots. read more

I'd love to give more than 4 stars if I could... it's not a 5 star place based on food alone, but the experience here is actually worth 5 stars I would say. The place has a kind of atmosphere that you'll rarely get anywhere... very typical Guadalajara, with the cantera stone columns, trees growing inside the restaurant. It feels like a hacienda. The seating is under a roof, but you're sitting right next to the outdoors in most cases. There are some exquisite details in the place, including an overhead lamp that looks like a chandelier made of lava lamps! The menu is probably the coolest thing abt the place. There are dishes on it that go back to prehispanic times in this region. A very cool one is the Escamoles (ant eggs with guacamole). We (4 adults, 2 kids) tried like 10 dishes just cuz I'm crazy like that. The Escamoles (check out videos on YouTube re how they go about collecting the eggs) were very good... you'd never guess they were ant eggs if you didn't know. My favorite meat dish was the Arrachera Steak Morisqueta... great beef dish... cooked in a clay pot (takes about 25 min to make). We tried the Mexican Pizza (I'm sorry, I forget the actual name, but it wasn't actually that great), and Corn on the Cobb was decent. We shared the Comal Los Platos, which was a big mix of things in a hot plate in the middle of the table. The steak in there was pretty good. There was the Chamorro... pork cooked in an orange citrus based sauce in a clay pot. Very juicy and soft. I prefer a more salty flavor for my beef and pork, so it wasn't my favorite. After the drink I had, the Mensun Ya, I can hardly remember what else we ate. The Mensun Ya (I got strawberry) has mint and sugar and maybe some soda, like a mojito, but they used tequila instead. Very good... lots of mint and strawberry, too. I found the service to be very good. I felt badly for one poor sod who dropped our Chamorro on the floor just as he was picking it up off the service tray. A plate broke, even the clay pot and the food... he was really embarrassed. Someone forgot to bring us a soda, but that was it. Otherwise, service wasn't rushed (though we arrived at about 6:20pm on a Monday, before it got crowded), they have the menu in Spanish and English (separate menus) and the staff was helpful when answering my gringo questions. While the place was not cheap, it was no more expensive than I had expected, maybe less. For a foodie tourist like myself, I would recommend visiting this place for the experience. I'll start with the appetizer.. Gorditas de chicharron, they were the size of a quarter, cold and tasteless. Duo de chiles rellenos: ONE chile cut in half with some meat and cheese inside. This one dish being advertised as 1 kilo of meat, at the very best it was half a pound, including the clay bowl it came in. The worst of all was the green pipian. Raw and unseasoned pumpkin seeds ground to a paste, draped over boiled chicken with a side of rice The only bad meal I had during my last visit to Mexico. The architecture and decor of this restaurant are beautiful. It's worth going just fOr that. The food and service were disappointing. The service was inattentive and the food was verY bland (except the guacamole which was great). The guacamole didn't come with chips it came with chicharones. There were six of is and only five pieces of chicharones. We got chips later. They were stale.
