This upset the child as the child felt the MFS counselor was targeting the parent negatively. Keep in mind that it appears this counselor should not have been assigned to this child as he was not a clinician but a recovery support specialist. Since taking on the "team" approach at MFS, there has been more concerns especially in the past approximately 3 years. The parent's response to this is that it just shows the mentality of the counselor. This child's PHI files were also released unencrypted & unsecured in a 5th attempt (prior 4 failed to be sent) to 2 free emails after the parent requested a USB from the Executive Director Peggy M., who said this could not be done but the parent advised it could be. Parent DID NOT KNOW the over 1000 pages of the child's PHI files would be sent in an unsecure, unencrypted fashion, until they were sent. -------------------- QUOTED: "Sending PHI to Free Gmail Without Encryption or a BAA -- Is It a HIPAA Violation? Yes -- sending a child's Protected Health Information (PHI) to a free Gmail account without encryption and without a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is a HIPAA violation." "Bottom line: Sending a child's PHI to a free Gmail account without encryption and without a BAA fails multiple HIPAA safeguards and is a violation. To comply, use a secure, encrypted channel and ensure all recipients are authorized and protected." -------------------- After the unsecure, unencrypted PHI file release on 7/24/26, it was found that MFS Wheaton was now looking for an Executive Director dated 7/25/26. Emails were sent outlining the incidents to the counselor, with Adilene L. before she cancelled & on the dates mentioned, stated, in part, said she had a life outside of MFS and the parent should have empathy for her. It would have been nice if she had empathy for her client. Adilene L. also did not like the parent not consenting to transcription, told the parent she was ending the zoom (7/15/26), that parent needed to get another counselor but parent pointed out when clients come to the office or a counselor goes to the home there is no recording or transcription. Then when the parent would reiterate what Adilene L. was saying, she would deny she said it & would say well if you allowed transcription, then... Adilene L. also asked the parent at one point to provide who owned a certain residence, that she had to move from her last residence due to being threatened with ICE being called & more due to the clients abilities. Parent questions the validity of this now. This is not conducive to a client especially when a counselor knows the medical conditions, disabilities, living situation, etc. & appears to press buttons causing an increase in those medical conditions. A new counselor was requested sent to Peggy M. as it is appearing that Adilene L. can no longer be objective, unbiased, etc. but there has been no response. Parent is in need of another counselor. "Next step: Start with your local MFS intake, then file a HIPAA complaint with OCR, and if applicable, contact the counselor's licensing board. This multi-pronged approach maximizes your chances of resolution." *As the parent states, "Nothing is meant to be accusatory, false, misconstrued, misinformation, misleading, et al., nor is anything meant to be done in an inappropriate fashion but done only in an attempt to protect us." 8/27/26 the current Ex. Dir MFS Wheaton, IL, Peggy M., sent an email to the parent advising: "Currently, we do not have any available counselors to assign you to Metropolitan Family Services. We can refer you to:..." This appears to violate ALL facets of the MFS Mission, Vision & Values. It appears MFS does not want to correct ethics violations, unsecured/unencrypted PHI file submissions violating HIPAA/Law, etc. but just wants to penalize the parent & child needing services due to their errors. Could this be animosity/retaliation/discrimination/causing further harm to a family in need, etc.? Family is in need and being denied adequate addressing of aspects/services. See *

Never again will I donate anything to such and ungrateful organization. Last thing, let say that they have to use such discretion because they would have more furniture than they could store. But after recently learning of this non-profit organization called Sharing Connections, those lazy days are over. A fantastic organization that does so much good in the community. Sharing Connections provides furniture and household items for low-income families, helping them make their houses or apartments feel like homes. Most of these families are coping with a major crisis such as domestic violence, homelessness, job loss, or a financial crisis. This is an opportunity for community members to show gratitude for their own blessings by helping someone who could use a little extra help. Because they respect the dignity of the families they serve, they want to give them furniture they'd be proud to have in their homes. This means that they only accept items that have been gently used. Items that are not soiled or broken. I recently assembled dressers that were provided by financial donations to Sharing Connections. A great way for anyone to spend their time. There are lots of ways to help. --your money, your unused belongings, or even just your time.

We were also given a red flag for doing weekly therapy and had to provide letters saying all our 'issues' were resolved - in my opinion, regular therapy is an indication of a proactive commitment to strong mental health and should be a regular part of everyone's life. Moreover, I found the entire process deceptive - before we had paid the first $10k, our case manager was optimistic about our chances of a successful adoption. After we had paid, the process slowed down significantly, and at one point a volunteer with the organization let slip that he had never seen someone in our situation have a successful adoption in decades with the organization. When they asked us for another $7k we decided to leave the program. The people in my community who've had successful adoptions recommend The Cradle.

That said, we wanted very much to add to our family once again, and we found FRC to be the perfect fit for us. One of my favorite attributes of FRC is their dedication to the emotional, psychological, and physical welfare of the first (birth) mother (and first father if applicable, of course). As I am an adoptive mom you'll have to take this with a grain of salt, but I truly believe that FRC offers a pressure-free space in which pregnant women are able to explore the adoption option without the "hard sell". Additionally, FRC offers ongoing counseling to first moms for as long as necessary. These elements were ones which we considered to be vital in our agency selection. Having an amazing social worker can, in my humble opinion, make or break the adoption experience for anyone (first or adoptive parents, that is). We had the privilege of working with Gail McGraw and we found her to be professional, thorough, considerate, and easy to contact (and that's a biggie if you've ever tried to navigate your way through a home study!). Also, she's been in the industry for quite some time and has as much heart and soul as someone fresh out of school. We also spoke with Richard Pearlman, the director of FRC, several times during the adoption of our youngest daughter. I found this to be impressive; I can't think of any other agency in which the director contacts every.single.adoptive.family prior to a placement to introduce himself, get to know the prospective adoptive family, and discuss both the agency itself and the adoption process as a whole. When we had a concern arise, Richard spent several hours on the phone with me--while he was out of the state, mind you--and worked to resolve the situation to the best of his ability. In short, I strongly recommend FRC. We couldn't be more blessed--not only by the inclusion of our "littlest" one to our family, but also due to the amazing extended family we've gained through her open adoption. If you're contemplating adoption but overwhelmed by the agency choices, look no further. You won't find better than Family Resource Center, truly.

If you do know how to do these things, you should volunteer because they would love you. We had a great experience today. They have volunteers that are experienced that will teach you the way. They are very friendly and funny. You will work hard. We put up drywall, but the options of things you may do are endless (besides a few items like roofing). You volunteer for a full day, get a lunch break and a break in the morning. Be prepared to use a portapotty. Also be prepared to build a home or make modifications to a home for a person who really needs it. Worth it.
