"Send a smile, Give a hug, All day long you will be loved!"…read more This is how I feel about not only random but flat out acts of kindness. During these crazy times where the economy is pretty much in the can (but it's lifting), people are negative about the weight of bills and having to work 50+hrs a week. All it takes is a home cooked meal to put a smile back on someone's face. Food holds a huge importance, I cannot even imagine not enjoying a meal and savoring every bite from start to finish, let alone sitting at my table without any food to accompany the grumble of my stomach. The Humanitarian Service Project is here for the people, without questions or obligations they are looking out for those in need and those willing to help out in a compassionate way. Not only are the staff extremely warm and welcoming, but are pleased and excited that there is still some good in the world and want to help someone out. Down or not down. For the Holiday Meals Program, you sign up to make and deliver meals on a monthly basis to a person in the community. What you make is basically up to you and your client. For me, because it's just me and I love cooking I took up two folks and decided to go all out. As if they could expect less, it's bigger and better in the land of Morgantown. Anyhoo, I spent a full day of cooking food I haven't cooked in ages (my house smells of country fried chicken...and I don't eat meat : )....) I placed together a full meal from salad starters to a light pumpkin bread dessert for both of the people I cooked for and delivered the goods with a generous smile. Walking away with an incredible appreciation for people and the heartfelt conversations you can take away from someone in the matter of 20 minutes to 2 hours, knowing it's all over the acceptance of food. From my table to yours, many thanks to the Humanitarian Service Project for creating this program. I cannot wait for this month....and know that I will be cooking for these two lovely people outside of the obligations of the project.

VFW Post 2801 - Fish fry on Fridays for lent, packs them in.

VFW's bring up childhood memories of cranky old men complaining about the war. At least that is…read morehow they seemed where I grew up. This place is anything but cranky old men complaining about the war. My first experience here was completely surprising. I came for the Friday fish fry with my father and the nugget, who was a baby at the time. During Lent, this place is PACKED with people on Friday nights. I could not believe it. While waiting for my fish to arrive, I got a glass of wine at the bar. I thought I misheard the price...nope I didn't...it was soooo cheap compared to a bar or restaurant. After I bit into a nice meaty piece of fried fish, I was hooked (buh duh cha). The fish fry continues all year long...not just during Lent. Don't like fish, no problem. They have Italian Beef sandwiches, hot dogs, and fried shrimp. The price of your meal also includes coffee, and cake for dessert. You can't go wrong. Don't forget to bring some cash for the raffles. They usually do a 50/50 raffle, and some other thing. For Valentine's Day there was a delicious pork dinner and a band. For St. Paddy's they do a corned beef dinner. High suggested! Tuesday is Bingo and Thursday is wing night. There is almost always something going on here. Check it out!

I know it's a Fish Fry but they have 1/2 pound prime rib burgers that are the best tasting burgers…read moreI have ever eaten. And I've eaten a lot of burgers! The fish can be ordered fried (not as healthy) or baked (healthy). Both taste great but I can't resist fried!
