I had been a long time customer of Casals. I had my makeup done for a wedding, came home my husband asked me if a funeral home had done my make up. Didnt complain just went back - recently I had my hair highlighted. The hair color was NOT what I had asked for - they redid it - again I went back same thing hair color was not what I asked for. Isabella Zimmerman(the bully) I have been getting my hair done here about 13 years, but after today I don't think I ever want to go back after being bullied by Isabella Zimmerman. She told me my hair looked stupid, my root color was naturally orange, my hair looks ridiculous especially how I don't color the underneath of my hair and just leave root color, how I wanted to do a root touch up on my hair was just completely stupid and would look plain stupid, and then tried telling me I've never gotten a root touch up at Casal's but then says she's done a root touch up on me? Hmm okk. Isabella did my hair a while ago 1 time only and it was highlights (loc she only does highlights?) Did I like them? No. I had to go back the next day and have her fix them, but today after her bulling me she told me she was not doing my hair and I need to find someone else or go somewhere else and then after goes I'll find someone here only if they want to. I downloaded yelp just to post this negative review. I would give zero stars if I could. Isabella ruined my hair!!! I went in with blonde hair asking for dark blonde or a light brown to match my natural color or be a little lighter than my root. I just wanted an all over color with low maintenance so I could let my hair grow out. She dyed my hair a redish black and she did not at any point tell me that my hair wasn't going to be what we discussed (very light brown). I only saw it in the mirror when she was blow drying it after the dye was already in my hair and washed out. She asked if I was happy with it and I said "no it's a lot darker than I thought it was going to be". All she said was "it'll wash out. We used demi permanent dye". When she was drying it, I noticed there was still a patch of blonde hair. She looked at the chunk of hair and kept blow drying it. She let me walk out of the salon with black patchy hair. I will NEVER go here again and will advise anyone I care about to never go here as well. Every persons hair she's ever touched deserves to be financially compensated, including myself. It is not what we discussed and she never told me that I should change my expectations. She said she got someone to assist her with the color formula. I think they both need to go back to school. I... I don't even know where to start. All I wanted were simple curtain bangs. It is a popular hair cut trend right now and I thought they were capable of the cut without a picture but I was wrong. I will give them some credit that they were willing to let me come in again to fix it and give me half of what I paid in gift cards. When I came back the second time, the hairstylist still couldn't fix the work that was done and was shocked what was done to me. My favorite part of with the second hairstylist was when he asked me how I liked it and half of my hair had layers and the other did not I had to tell him, "I want this side to match the other side" he laughed and said whoops let me get that for you. The receptionist asked how I liked it while I was leaving and she knew I was upset but I was fed up and left. I'm glad the only thing I like about myself will be messed up for the next 3 months. It looks like I am walking around with a mullet for how bad the bangs are. Also the layers do not line up when I compare my left to my right even after calling out the difference the first time. No idea how, "the best spa in the area" manage to mess up my hair this bad. read more

I debated on whether to review this place. It's a salon, how would I know anything about it? From my wife maybe? Well, here goes. First, I'm balding (I'd prefer to say my hair is thinning). This makes a haircut rather simple, one would think. Turns out, that's not altogether true. To make a guy's thinning hair look decent takes a bit of work. Bryanna does just that. She's an excellent stylist and I highly recommend her. Service is 4-star most of the time. The one time I went for a massage (with the wife) it was 5-star. On a cut appointment, plan on a little extra time since you get a head massage, quick backrub, and hand massage prior to the wash. During the hair washing, you will be offered a mini-facial. Go for it. If you get the right person (generally an assistant to your stylist, who themselves aspires to being a stylist), this will be the high point of the experience. Don't forget to close your eyes for the toner. Get a cup of their tea as you wait, it is herbal and very good. So, with all that good stuff, including Bryanna's hair cutting artistry, how you ask, do I give this place 3-stars. Can you say $42 for a haircut. It's just about embarrassing. The thing is, once you start with a stylist, it's like dating. It's hard to break up. Doesn't matter how expensive the dates get, you just can't bring yourself to say, I think I need to see other stylists. Someday, maybe, but I don't have it in me. Bryanna's too good to me right now. They are the only Aveda salon in the area and their service and professionalism is lacking. First of all, it's terribly inconvenient that no stylist cuts and colors and you have to make separate appointments for each which is nearly impossible to do in a way that's convenient. i have had to come at separate times or separate days. Why can't the stylist perform both services? Second, they never applied any of my Pure Reward points so I got no credit for any of my product purchases. So I just order directly from Aveda now. Lastly, I got a call that my stylist called off at 8 am and my appointment was at 9 am. No apology for that at all. Clearly, it's time for me to switch salons and advise others to do the same. Just had the best hair cut EVER with Josiah. He listened and understood exactly what I wanted. He didn't rush through the haircut and knew just the right cutting technique that works best for my hair texture. I usually end up going home and finding something I'm just not happy with after a haircut but not this time! I haven't been this happy with my hair in a long time. Thank you Josiah! My pedicure was ok but I was NoT told when I called I was getting a Master pedicure... whatever that is...no different than any other pedicure I've had other places! The website says $42 and they charged me $69. When I questioned it I was told the lady that gave it to me charges that much..a master pedicure?? I should have been told that when I booked it! Beware of their pricing because evidently they don't tell you up front and you can't go by their website. Also...there is a sign at the parking lot entrance but once you pull in the building just says Key Bank. Surprised there was no signage on the door. read more

I went to the Canfield location of Casal's De Spa & Salon for the first time yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised. The salon is departmentalized, so I had two girls working on my hair - the colorist and the stylist. Both girls, Jessica and Melanie, were very pleasant with their consultations and offered great suggestions. Jessica put extremely pretty high and low lights in my hair. I've gotten so many compliments already! As a heads up, they do not accept tips, so their prices were a little more than other salons. I walked out of there with full highlights, and a cut and blow dry for $98. read more

Edit: I have since been back for several services, even including a haircut again, and everything has been wonderful. My recommendation is to ask for a more experienced stylist though if you are someone who really cares about your hair! I went here based on all the rave reviews. At my appointment, I told the hairdresser that I needed my hair shortened a little bit so it would hold curls again but I was very adamant that I did not want short hair. I even showed him a picture of what I wanted. The whole time he was working he just seemed very very inexperienced and my hair cut took over an hour because he was so slow. In the end, he cut about 6 inches off my hair, leaving me with a hairstyle I have worked on growing my hair out from over two years. I was seriously in tears because I never asked for such a short haircut. I am highly disappointed in my experience and the fact that I got a haircut I never asked for. read more

I booked a manicure pedicure months in advance of my wedding. I got a call less than 1 month before wedding that the technician was no longer working for canfield store. I called to rebook and was told there were NO OPENINGS until December-after my wedding!! I called Howland store and they were able to accommodate me the week of the wedding. I appreciate Howland attitude and as a regular customer of canfield I will never set foot there again. read more

She kindly offered me another massage with a different massage therapist, which I accepted. I did have a much better experience with Robert and he focused more on my areas of concern. The staff and stylists are incredibly welcoming and make you feel comfortable throughout your visit. Their spa is very relaxing and calming, perfect to unwind after a stressful week. I also like how they continually change the salon/spa creating a more open and stylish atmosphere. The only negative I have experienced has been the prices for products that they provide at the salon and the parking lot. Speaking as a college student, I will sacrifice money towards my hair, but I refuse to pay almost $50 for a bottle of hairspray. The parking lot is also too narrow and compact. Especially when delivery trucks pull up to the front of the building and you have no way to move around them. read more

This place is highly overrated, and I would never suggest it to a newbie in the area. I think people go for the atmosphere and the free "massage", but honestly, the actual haircuts and hair colors are not up to par with its local reputation. I gave this place FIVE tries with FIVE different hair specialists. The only great hair experience I had was a couple of years ago with a stylist named Micah, who unfortunately moved out of Northeast Ohio. He was the reason I gave this salon so many chances, but one by one, the follow-up sessions have been extremely disappointing. In one instance, I had my hair cut by a hairdresser who was deemed an "expert". I thought being an "expert" and costing $55 for a simple long layered cut, she would take the time to do an excellent job on my hair. Honestly, this "expert" gave me the worst haircut of my life, which I have been growing out since fall of 2015 (and it's currently July 2017 - it's only now an inch away from the short layer being completely grown out). I asked her for long layers (my hair falls to about the middle of my chest), but she pointed out that I have "a lot of hair" and proceeded to layer my hair using THINNING SHEARS, thinning about 2 inches from my scalp!! My hair flipped all the wrong ways for months and it was a bear to put into any updo because of the shortest layers! All the following hairstylists I have encountered since then have said that any stylist should RARELY use thinning shears and only in certain situations - but definitely not on my type of hair. On a second occasion, I asked for blonde highlights to be set in my hair. I have been getting blonde highlights in my hair every now and then for years, so thought this would be a simple, pain-free process. However, the stylist proceeded to place an extra abundance of blonde highlights extremely close together, causing my hair to almost look dyed blonde rather than highlighted blonde. Within a week, I could obviously see a straight line to accentuate my dirty blonde roots. This has NEVER occurred before. I went to a different stylist at a different salon to fix it. Since these bad experiences have occurred, I've been going to Great Clips to get my hair cut because I basically just want them to cut my ends off, while having no one touch my layers until they are completely grown out. The Beauty Shop in Boardman now has been doing a great job with my hair color. Hopefully, this place will do a better job with hiring and training better stylists for the future... read more

I came in from out of town for a spa experience. The spa part was sub-par, but the hair was by far the worst blow out I've ever had in my life. Facial and massage were okay, but when I went to get my hair done I had asked for soft voluminous curls and ended up with a bad 80's curly mop that was still dripping wet. Then I was told I'd have to wait close to 40 minutes to have my makeup done. My schedule was supposed to be back-to-back. At that point I was so irritated that I just cancelled the makeup (for fear of them making me look like a drag queen) and left with soaking wet 80's hair and a bare face. Don't waste your time with this place. They don't care enough to take the proper time to provide the services you ask for. And also don't book a facial and then a 30 min massage bc they will just give you the same neck/shoulder massage unless you ask them to work on a specific area. read more

That should go w/o saying... ; ) It is a very clean place with a pleasing atmosphere. If you're fortunate enough to have tried the Aveda product line, this is a great place to receive the experience.... ( they have the whole product line and all the new stuff too ). If you haven't tried it, its a great place to treat yourself. Allow some time for the experience.... A complimentary head and shoulder massage with a mini facial with your hair cut..... YEAH! Now you don't HAVE to have the extras... But why wouldn't you ? This was my first experience at Casals. It is the only decent salon in area. Looks compact, but clean and has good aesthetics. I wanted a foot reflexology massage and pedicure. The person who gave me service was good; but I got barely a 17 minute foot massage. If you include the hot towel wrap, make it 20 minutes. I inquired at checkout how long the massage was supposed to be. Apparently it was meant to be 30 mins for $40. I was already checked out by then, so didn't want to complain. But I was not pleased as to how limited the service was. Paid $96 for a less than 20 min foot massage and simple pedicure. read more

Wanting a great massage experience? Think again before going here! My boyfriend and I purchased a couples massage and I opted for a deep tissue upgrade. My male masseuse lacked any personality or desire to make the experience anything but robotic. Absolutely not a deep tissue massage, either! My boyfriend's masseuse kept coughing and sniffling so much that I interrupted the "relaxing environment " to ask if she needed to go get a cough drop! I told the lady at the front desk that everything was quite disappointing and that my boyfriend's first massage was a let down...especially considering the amount of money it cost. You do not get what you pay for here! The deep tissue upgrade and $10.00 were taken off the total cost. The manager that made this discounted decision remained unknown but gave her approval of the discount only to the employee collecting the money. First, I just want to say that I always went to Casal's for homecoming, prom, and whenever I have been a bridesmaid. I was always thrilled with hair, makeup, and nails. So when it was my turn to get married, it was a no-brainer to book appointments for my bridesmaids and me. I was, for the first time, really disappointed. The hairstylists and makeup artists were unprofessional and did nothing but complain about having to work on a Saturday. Then, despite having paid for the "bridal" hairstylist and makeup artist, I don't think I got anyone so special. My curls fell out even before the ceremony. Makeup streaks showed up in the wedding pictures as the foundation was not blended at all (and I remember the "artist" wiping excess makeup off her fingers and onto my face). I was not at all happy with the results, and I definitely looked better at my prom than on my wedding day. The worst part is that I sent them an email about the experience, and didn't receive a response of any kind. They do, however, keep sending me text messages saying "We miss you!" I recently got a full set of LCN's put on and I wasn't impressed. The person didn't do a horrible job but my nails are all lumpy and not smooth. You can't really tell if you just look real quick but up close you can definitely tell. I'm currently trying to find a new salon to go to. My daughter bought me a package for my big birthday. Massage, hair and make up. This was all a surprise for me. So I had no idea what was going on. She dropped me off assuming that I would be taken care of with the package deal. The massage was excellent and very relaxing. The girl that did my hair was so sweet and did a so so job. After that I went up to the counter cause I thought I was done they took the gift card and sent me on my way. Needless to say there was a surprise party for me after this which I had no makeup on and it looked like I just like I just got out of bed. I recently had a horrible experience at the Canfield location. I came in from out of town to take my future mother in law out for a nice pedicure. Unfortunately we arrived 10 minutes late for our appointment because I got tied up in traffic. I wish they would have just told us that we were too late and couldn't honor our appointment. Instead, we got the worst pedicure ever, we felt like were a bother, and they rushed through the whole process. I understand that we were late, our fault, but a little communication that we would receive a horrible pedicure because of it would have been nice. We would've taken our business elsewhere. $55 for a pedicure that did not include a soak or massage is a complete rip off! read more

I'm divided on this. I give 5 stars for service, but would give 1 star for attitude towards the customer if you are even 5 minutes late. So I will average it out at 3. I've been to Casals MANY times since it's in near my area (both locations...Canfield - 45 min away from me and Howland - 15 min away from me). I've gone for all services at least once, but have returned many times for mani/pedi and probably 15 - 20 times for massages. They are GREAT and atmosphere is very spa (ZEN) like, which is sooo nice. You don't have to tip, so prices are just a 'tad' more like someone else wrote in a review, but I didn't find that a big deal. REGARDING IF YOU ARE LATE FOR AN APPT: I will agree with the review of Shay R. on 12/2/2012...if you are late, they treat you like you are a HUGE BOTHER, so ALWAYS BE ON TIME! I actually drove 45 minutes to the Canfield location and was 10 minutes late due to heavy traffic and they said 'Too bad. You were late, we can't fit you in, so you will have to leave.' I even spoke with the manager and explained the distance I drove and basically was shown the door. I then had to turn right around and drive another 45 minutes home for absolutely nothing. They DO NOT BUDGE if you are late!! They are absolutely AWFUL if you're in a 'pickle and not exactly on time (especially the Canfield location). I will say the Howland location is strict on being on time, but doesn't treat customers 'as bad'. They roll their eyes and give you 'a talking to' about how much you have inconvenienced them, but will 'manage' to still see you if you're running a little late. I've been going to another salon that starts with a "P" (which is down the street from Casal's Canfield location) for over 13 years for my regular hair and facials and at times have been late, due to traffic (Route 224 can be awful, especially around construction or holiday times) and they just gladly do my service with a smile and do an EXCELLENT JOB! They treat me fantastic. Casals does have more of the 'spa' atmosphere and it is nice, especially if you are thinking of getting someone a gift or pampering someone. (Great gift for men to give the ladies!) Lesson here: Be sure to be at Casal's before your appointment time because they do treat you TOTALLY DIFFERENT if you are not on time. read more

I just moved to the area, so I did a ton of research for a place to get my hair done. Everyone said, go to Casal's. I had my color done by Katarina (sp?) and a cut done by Lauren. Both girls were super friendly, and really seemed to love what they do. Katarina, did the most amazing color I've ever seen on my hair. She recommended doing low lights and high lights to give me what I was looking for. It was SO GOOD!! Lauren then rinsed, tone and cut my hair to how I wanted it. All by looking at a photo! It was the prettiest cut with movable layers. She recommended some hair care products too to keep it looking great! Even my husband, WHO NEVER, notices hair complimented me on how good I looked. The salon uses Aveda products which I love! I know some people said it's pricey there but I have LONG thick hair and went in with a cut, color and highlight and paid 150.00. Which is so cheap considering I got shampoo/conditioner and a travel hair spray (along with a cut low/high light). Oh and they give you a back massage and a mini facial complimentary! I didn't even need the full color so it kept cost down. Trust me, go and ask for these 2 awesome girls! You will not be dissappointed!! I'm pretty sure they were junior stylist too. I don't feel like it was worth the money. I wasn't pleased with my "master" level colorist's customer service. She never even introduced herself to me-just appeared and asked what I wanted, which was a little awkward. I also thought she was too intense and rushed. I've been getting my hair highlighted for 20 years so I know the drill-it can be a process. She took at best 10 minutes to slap some color on rather haphazardly. Also, she didn't protect my skin and so I had dark color staining my temples/forehead for the rest of the day, which wasn't cool since I had other plans following the appointment. The color turned out ok, certainly not tragic, but kind of just 'meh'. Finally, the water situation is pretty ridiculous. When you're getting your hair washed the water goes from frigid to boiling without warning. I overheard the other shampooer explaining to her client that they have 2 water heaters that need to be replaced. For the kind of money they're asking in Youngstown, Ohio they really ought to get on it. I might expect that at Great Clips, but not there. Finally, the prices are inflated despite (or because of?) the no tipping policy. $125.00 for partial color/highlight is not competitive pricing, it's out.rage.ous. Finally, their scheduling is unreliable-I was asked to reschedule two of my appointments after I had made my appointments in advance and made babysitting arrangements. read more
