Things broke down in my subsequent visit with her since her follow through with ordering physical therapy was delayed by several days. We agreed upon a treatment plan of only medication and PT during that visit. About two weeks after my visit with her I developed increased pain and reached out to her to adjust my medication. A gentleman called me the day after I left a message around 9:00am to get more information but when I had heard nothing by 4:00pm I called again. Surprisingly someone actually answered the phone which had never happened before during my several calls throughout my evaluation and diagnosis. But I digress. Apparently sometime during the day Ayumi responded that I needed to reach out to my primary care provider. I have no idea if I would have been called with this message the same day. I took this to mean that she had discharged me from her practice. I really would have appreciated it if she had told me that at our last visit because it is now 4:30pm on a Friday and my PCP does not work on Mondays. So I will sit here in pain until Tuesday. I cannot recommend this practice since they appeared to have abandoned me as their patient and I will be reaching out to the Board of Registered Nursing with my complaint.

However, if you're looking for a spine specialist who does everything possible to help you avoid surgery, Dr Heros is that guy. In 2010 I went to Dr Heros as I was contemplating lower back surgery. He told me not to go through with it, as there were too many issues with my back for one surgery to correct. I didn't listen and had the surgery from what I now know to be a quack neurosurgeon named Francisco Soldevilla. I am now permanently disabled as a result of that botched surgery. My wife and I continue to see Dr Heros. I respect his skill and and his recommendations.

Dr. Keenen listened to my history and my concerns. He presented the options clearly and made sure I understood, for the first time, the risks and benefits of each. He presented a timeline of events post surgery. He used my MRI, back models of spinal fusion and video to explain the procedure. I decided to move forward with the spinal fusion in November 2017. It has now been a year since my surgery. My results, both short and long term, were exactly as predicted by Dr. Keenen. I'm extremely pleased with the outcome and with getting my life back. If you are looking for someone conservative, he is not for you. I then saw Dr. Jimmy myself for back pain due to a car accident. He got me an MRI ASAP whereas I had been given the run around from my PCP and insurance. He started me on some experimental non invasive peptides which made me feel better immediately and gave me a lumbar injection. we were trying to avoid surgery, but ultimately after 8 months my herniated disc was causing muscle paralysis so I ended up with surgery, but he helped me through the process and continues to be a part of my care team. I expected to feel like a farm animal, especially when I went through the double doors and saw just how many rooms they had available for individuals coming in for surgery. From the moment I arrived, from the desk staff, to my first nurse, to the anesthesiologist, to all the people in between - *everyone* introduced themselves by name, asked me mine, and CLEARLY explained what was going on in every step as I prepared for my surgery. Yes, it was as efficient as an assembly line, and no, I didn't feel like a farm animal/ Once my surgery was complete, a staff member stayed with me the whole time, making sure I was OK, giving me ice chips, and talking with my husband about when to pick me up. For day surgery, this was about as good of an experience as one could have.

I discovered Radiant via a friend who was walking her own journey of pain, and thought it sounded strange, but was up for anything that could help. Radiant offered a free session (I think they still do) so I decided why not give it a shot. After that first session i couldn't believe how I was feeling. I was ecstatic at the first pain free few hours in the last decade!! I immediately signed up for a full course and had daily treatments for the first couple of weeks and then tapered back to once or so a week. Over time the pain relief was substantial and I was able to get completely off the meds. I was 70-80% pain free. My pain became so much more manageable and felt I had my active life back.
