After battling Dr Tatsumi's office staff, one of whom (Jocelyn?) lied directly to me on Friday 9/27 and told me they do not take MVA PIPs (Dr Tatsumi confirmed they do), Dr Tatsumi reached out directly. I thought it was incredibly considerate, I was impressed, and mostly I was grateful and excited to be getting the opportunity to meet with Dr Tatsumi. He noted he was directing one of his staff, Alana, to contact me the next day (10/1) to schedule. They did not contact me, so I called them - a repeat already of what I'd just experienced. Alana notes she cannot do it, it has to go back to new patient intake/ referral role (Angela). The same staff member who couldn't process my referral for a week previously. So now I'm waiting on Angela to call. She does not. I call back Wed 10/2 and again feel I am driving the progress rather than the office following through with a request from Dr Tatsumi. The important thing is I get an appt to see him 10/11 and that is what matters. We have our discussion, which is private and not for public consumption. See attached pic about a doctor publicly posting about a patient. Granted, it's the AI generated answer, but one of my medical providers said essentially the same. This doctor goes on Yelp the same day I see him to respond to my review, notes I was there for a visit, references my (private) recovery path, and then notes who my insurance company is. I do not understand what is wrong with this business and now doctor. It's hard to picture the five star experiences I've read. Why are you posting any personal care information on a public review forum? You should be more sensitive to and adherent/knowledgeable of HIPAA requirements than I am. This office can't return or make a call in a timely fashion, but this surgeon has time to be on Yelp the same day we meet and publicly respond to my post? My true perception after several days of reflection is: he did not intend to take me on as a patient, but saw me and then replied here so the public would know as a way to balance the scathing review I left. Well. They tried to argue they contacted me.., (they didn't).... The next day after my poor review, they called me on my preferred phone (which they have had the whole time for my account) .... Wanted to set up an appt for the physician assistant... I said absolutely not. I just spent $950, out of pocket, for an MRI.... The physician asst sees you before an MRI and then refers you. The person who does appts said "oh, I will call you back". Haven't heard back from them. It's been weeks. Even tho they said they'd call Me back next week... And next time they say they called and I basically just missed the call. It's my cell phone. And I can see everything I've missed. So yea. They never called until I gave a bad review. And I doubt I will get another call again. ***The original review... there was a response that I was called a liar, and said I didn't respond to their original communication.... that never happened. A week after surgery I was infected the clean out left me with a MRSA infection with a pic line and six weeks of antibiotics. Throughout this time I complained of pain in my left calf three months later, a blood clot was found at that location. If I could give no stars I would. This place is borderline evil. My injury is from a work accident. It is also very severe and is only getting worse. After referral and several conversations between my doctor and SAIF telling them I should be seen immediately they refuse to see me over financial reasons. What they don't know is I could pay for any treatment outright if necessary. So after 3 weeks of delay I am now being referred to a real and compassionate spine clinic that isn't about a money grab. I will let anyone and everyone I know that no matter how good the doctors may be the office at Oregon Spine are soulless and only care about getting paid. If you have any issues with your spine, this is place to reach out to for some help. I had been having issues for over a year with my back and the 'big box' place that I went to was frustrating. Appointments were two months in between and the visits were sit around for a while and then a quick 5 minute talk with a doctor. I finally had someone suggest that I reach out to the Oregon Spine Care. I gave them a call and gave them all the information that I could about my situation. They did all the work to track down x-rays and MRI results to review. I had an appointment pretty quick and we started down a route. Things happened much quicker than at the 'big box' place. While Oregon Spine Care did follow the correct route on following up on previous results and having to do some of the tests, it was quicker than with the previous place. Ended up with back surgery for some bone spurs and some other issues in the lower back. I'm now back out playing golf, snowboarding, pickleball, and jogging again. Very clean procedure. All procedures, I received great instruction on what was to happen. Post surgery I was able to leave messages for the lead nurse practioner of my surgeon and received messages back timely and in clear to understand terminology. Very happy to have found them. Feeling 100% better. Wish I had found them so much earlier. read more

Throughout my surgery experience I've been trying to keep a running list of all the ways this office has screwed up my experience. The list became so long I decided no one would read it entirely. I met with both surgeons & moved forward with Dr. Ching. He is world class - an incredible surgeon. I highly recommend him as a surgeon & his bedside manner was superb. His staff on the other hand has been an absolute nightmare. They are overworked. Their office has too many patients, or the staff in incompetent. Without the help of my spouse my aftercare would've tanked. It's as if all they want is your insurance information. Your after care seems like a burden to their office. I have now had two experiences with Oregon Spine Care, both with Dr. Tatsumi. Two years ago he helped me with an issues that came up with my neck which resulted in a two level fusion. The day I went to the hospital for the procedure I had no movement in my left arm combined with EXTREME PAIN. When i woke up in the recovery room after the surgery I was extremely surprised that I had almost no pain in my arm. Then I raised my hand and was actually able to wiggle my fingers. Totally amazed as i had absolutely no idea what to expect. Now, today is actually 7 weeks since he preformed a fusion on my lower back. This injury actually happened 18 years ago. I had a surgery in 2005 remove a massive herniation after my disk literally exploded. Then another surgery to remove another bulge in 2007. My surgeon suggested a fusion then but i declined to accept. He told me OK and to go as long as I could because i would likely have no choice the next time. Well I made it another 16 years until I visited with Dr. Tatsumi. My pain level today is no less that 98% less than what it was a year ago today. Healing is going extremely well in my opinion as well as Dr. Tatsumi opinion. When I saw him yesterday I told him I needed to apologize and thank him at the same time. When he asked for an explanation this is what I said to him. When you walked into my room after the surgery you asked me how my left leg was feeling. I rudely said " My left leg has been completely numb for 18 years so I don't feel anything. However my right leg does feel better" then you walked out. One week later I was standing on the asphalt outside where I work and all of a sudden my left foot felt like it was getting hot. It was a super sunny day and the asphalt was hot. Over the next couple days I learned that I could actually tickle the bottom of my left foot and feel it. If I pinched or scratched anywhere on my left leg i could feel that as well. Then I had an appointment with my regular Dr. After telling him all of this he did sensation test and i was actually able to feel the vibration touches everywhere he placed the probe on my entire left leg, foot and toes. This was completely unexpected results assuming that the nerves on my left side were completely dead after 18 years of nothing. Talking with Dr. Tatsumi about this was exciting as it was totally unexpected by him either. After that many years it is extremely rare to have this kind of outcome. My only problem if you want to call it a problem, I know have to learn how to use my left leg and foot again. After all those years stumbling when i walk, sometimes falling over because I could not feel where my leg was or stepping on a nail and not knowing I had done so until i went to take my shoe off at the end of the day. I am totally enjoying remembering the sensations that i had forgot about for so many years. All said, please note, Oregon Spine Care does not do procedures just to see if something will work or not. They take great care and pride in only suggesting things that they are sure will provide positive outcomes for their patients. I completely love what they and Dr. Tatsumi have done for me over the past two years and two different procedures. The only concerning moment was when I was told that iI have a special spine. This review is long overdue! I had Left L4-5 facet cyst removal surgery in January 2021 and my life has not been the same since! Prior to my surgery, I was in extreme pain and my quality of life was terrible - spending most of my days unable to walk or move. From my first appointment with Dr. Tatsumi, I knew that I was in "great hands" - he was kind, funny, listened and cared deeply about my wellbeing. While tatsumi is a great surgeon I can't recommend this place. The front desk staff are extremely rude and condescending. They don't track phone call and the medical assistants don't take notes. This results in not having pain meds 1 week after major spine surgery because they are incompetent. I highly recommend against suffering through them. read more

Dr Depasse is a great surgeon and very kind human. I had a failed surgery due to an undiagnosed medical condition. He's been nothing but responsive every time I called. I suffered from a debilitating lower back injury for three years that saw me crippled and in chronic pain. I tried everything, from multiple back surgeries, to spinal injections, physical therapy, and pain medications. Dr. Tatsumi gave me my life back with a Lumbar Disc Replacement surgery, something that I was never told was an option. My biggest regret is that I didn't get the surgery sooner. Perhaps if I had met Dr. Tatsumi back when my issues began, three years of agony could have just been a six week recovery. I cannot recommend Dr. Tatsumi enough as he has saved my life and been awesome every step of the way. I am a 30 yr old male with a herniated L5/S1 disc and went here to receive a consultation by Dr. Tatsumi. When scheduling an appointment I was told that his PA Zach Smith would meet with me and review my MRI. The appointment itself was pretty straight forward, explaining my situation and providing me options. Zach provided a couple medication options (an oral steroid and muscle relaxers) to help with pain if needed. At the time I declined and he said "if you ever decide you need those, just call us up and we can put the order in". Three weeks later, I stop taking ibuprofen (2,400 mg day for 3 weeks) and my upper back and neck tightened up and seized putting me in intense pain to where I couldn't lift my neck on my own off of a pillow. I called this office first thing Monday morning (8am) and to my frustration realized that ordering the muscle relaxer was not a simple call. I was told that Zach would call me back. I received no call and called back on lunch time and spoke with a receptionist again, I was assured by an annoyed receptionist to not worry and that Zach would call me as soon as he could. Fast forward to Wednesday morning (3 days later) and I spoke with a receptionist who kindly informed me that "Oh, the prescription was sent in.....". Oh really!???!!?? Would of been freakin nice to know that while I am at work looking like the hunch of Freakin Notre Dame. HORRIBLE STRUCTURE FOR COMMUNICATION. After writing a review here (which I have since removed) I received a call back from her. She left a message stating I would be able to make an appointment, after all. I then received a call from Dr. Tatsumi himself, apologizing for the misunderstanding and offering to streamline and facilitate the process of my being seen by their PA. I am impressed that someone over there is paying attention, and that Dr. Tatsumi would take the time to follow up to see that prospective clients are treated appropriately (and so I have revised my one star review to 3). I will write updates over time, in order that others gain a clear perspective as to the quality of care they can expect to receive at this establishment and update the rating as I deem appropriate. Dr Tatsumi lived up to his advanced reputation of being one of the best back doctors in the area. I was in extreme pain from a herniated disc, they moved the schedule around and got me right in for Microsurgery after seeing my MRI report. Surgery is not the first step for him usually but in my case it was the best answer and he performed it quickly and flawlessly. I was in at 8AM and going home at noon,pain free, with a little tiny incision in my back. I don't think you could ask for anything more. read more

Dr. Tatsumi and staff are the most professional and amazing group of people i have ever encountered in the medical arena. Every single appointment was on-time, efficient and productive. I had struggled for 10 years with low back pain, debilitating radiating nerve pain down my legs and into my feet. I tried every type of alternative care because most people i talked to said that low back surgery was the worst thing you could do to yourself. Those people could not have been any more wrong. I met with one of the doctor's assistants a week ago Friday. The meeting went well enough and I found the person I dealt with to be respectful, competent, professional and well-informed in general. My problem is with the time frame for delivery of the cortisone shot that was agreed upon during this meeting. By way of background, I have had sciatica for the last 3 weeks. It has reached a pain level that is, at times, something like an '11' on a scale of 1-10, leaving me non-ambulatory for the last two weeks. At least to me, the circumstances here qualify as something of an emergency. I was told when leaving the office that I would receIve a call this week setting up a time for the injection. It's been a week and there's been no call. Who knows when the call will come, much less what the further waiting time for the actual shot will be. What bothers me in most interactions with doctors and medical entities these days is that patients, especially when they are not at their best, have to be on top of everything these days. Is it too much to have expected the assistant I met with to have given an estimate as to how long it might take to receive the shot? Is it too much to have hoped that someone from the office might have explained that the actual injection schedule is determined and controlled by a group separate from the doctor's office? (I called to get this informatIon). Apparently, the answer to both these questions is "Yes." In the meantime, allow me to curl up in a corner and die. read more

When i finally got in there i didnt get to see him in fact i was seen by some lady with black hair that was very rude and treated me very poorly. In May 2021, my back began hurting after a chiropractic visit (won't mention the name) all the way down my left leg to my toes. I couldn't walk, sit, lay down, or sleep....I was in constant pain. I was able to get in to see Dr. Tatsumi after a recommendation from a neighbor. One more thing I should mention is that I'm a Surgical Assistant in the area and have worked with other back surgeons, looking elsewhere, I heard goods things about Dr. Tatsumi. He quickly started me with x-rays, then an MRI, which confirmed a large disc herniation, then scheduled my surgery which took place on August 5th. I woke up in recovery without any pain in my back or down my leg, I could tell, though it was a difficult case, that he had succeeded in removing the large disc fragment that had basically crippled me. I am so grateful to Dr. Tatsumi, his PA's and his excellent office staff....they were all fantastic and have made a huge difference in my life. read more

I tried to schedule an appointment with Dr. Tatsumi for a 2nd Opinion on how to treat a failing C3/4 that is generating significant pain and neurological symptoms at a level above where I have had previous surgery by a Doctor he trained with years ago. Absolutely could not get passed the front desk person. She repeatedly told me I had to see a Physicians assistant. I do NOT TRUST the opinion of a Physicians Assistant as they are NOT surgeons. I have worked with many PA's at other offices and that's fine... but I have always seen the Doctor at the time of my appointments and the PA's are typically used to gather information and do follow-up not read MRI's and render opinions. I do NOT, nor will I ever trust the Surgical Opinion of a PA. I have recently visited with a well known Surgeon in Seattle and have his recommendation... the experience was a complete 180 from this office. The entire staff was helpful, polite, and always returned my calls rapidly. Dr. Tatsumi's staff person took over a week just to call me back. I asked my sister to call and see if she could schedule me as well... as she is a fairly prominent person in the community with a career in the Health Insurance Industry and I am now retired and no longer working in Health Care. So I am still in the process of finding another 2nd Opinion to validate what I now know is going on in my spine so I'll have a informational basis I can use to make the most rational decision for my care. A bad decision at this level would be catastrophic. As they say "This is not my first Rodeo"... I have visited more than 25 different physicians and medical professionals - surgeons, neurologists, interventional radiologists, psychiatrists, gastroenterologist, neurologists, in several states over the past 16 years and I'd have to rate this office staff very near the bottom of that list. I have several family members that are Physicians in other specialties... I'm not a rookie. Sad because Dr. Tatsumi has excellent paper credentials and good reviews... but if you can't even schedule an appointment to see him it means nothing. I think what I have expressed here has been expressed in other reviews... there is something askew with the practice management/staff at this office. My one star is not for the doctor, because I never had the pleasure to meet him, but for the poor customer service received from his patient coordinator. I tried for four weeks to get an appointment, but the patient coordinator throws up every roadblock imaginable. She claims I'm unable to make an appointment until she receives my records from my prior doctor on the East Coast. She was unhelpful in getting those records though (I don't think she really tried), and when I told her I have all the records with me and my referring doctor from ROC Orthopedic in Oregon City also has those records/images, she said she had no clue how to request that information from ROC. Can you believe that? I have an actual referral from an orthopedic who even called it over to her office, with accompanying records and MRI images, and this patient coordinator still refuses to make an appointment for me Oh well, I can only assume they are not looking for new business. I've moved on to another local spine center. Suggest not wasting your time with this office. You will be waiting around forever and like me, you can only wait around so long when you have a herniated disk/sacral fracture. read more

On March 1, 2017, I met with Dr. Ching for a second opinion regarding a fractured lumbar vertebrae (lumbar burst fracture) surgery of 12 months earlier. My pain levels are at a daily level of 8 of 10 despite the surgery. After waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes after my appointed time, Dr. Ching finally found time to evaluate my condition. No reason given for the delay. Obviously the appointment was rushed due to the lateness of Dr. Ching. Prior to my appointment I had furnished the doctor all pertinent medical information, including MRI and CT scans and surgeon's reports but apparently the doctor had no time to read this information as the questions he asked me were all in the furnished reports. The exam was brief- less than 20 minutes (although his report states our "face to face" time was over 45 minutes). Absolutely nothing was accomplished regarding pain relief and I was told that "seeing a pain physician would be a very reasonable thing to pursue". I will never return to this office. read more
