Jack said his hourly rate was only $100, but then he brought a "helper" with him @ $50 hour extra. They secured one wire to a porch light, but in 3 hours didn't have time to work on the other porch light or to replace 2 light fixtures, as they were repairing 5 outlets, of which 2 are obsolete, not in need, not on my list, not a safety issue. Jack charged me $500. I was unable to provide a photo of the poor workmanship on the 3 in one lightswitch/GFCI. Jack told me that he would come back when I had more money. I had told him up front "I am a low income senior." The only way to come up with another $440 was to not pay on my credit card. He said he got FREE light bulbs from Efficiency Maine, as do I. He used his and profited. He made me an appt. for 4 months later October 30 @ 7:30am. On that date he sent a text @ 7am rescheduling for afternoon which was inconvenient for me, but I had no choice as I was expecting 100 Trick-or-Treaters. He kept switching up the plan as to how he should go about working on the exterior porch light. Finally, we agreed on turning one of the obsolete outlets into a light switch. Why didn't he just do that 4 months earlier eliminating the fire danger? So, in fact, Jack charged to repair an obsolete outlet, then charged me again to undo that receptacle and turn it into a light switch. They finally got my 3 new light installed. So a total of $940. So little work was accomplished. My 3 in one lightswitch system looks unprofessional. One lightswitch is not flush with the cover, we are having a difficult time using the outlet, they didn't put in all 8 screws and the 4-piece outlet cover is old, dirty and severely cracked... I texted my concerns to Jack and he kept putting words in my mouth. He was dishonest. He kept bragging about his business. Poor planning on his part cost me double the money and unnecessary frustration. He kept telling me that he had bills too. It's been 4 months. I will start the process with the Maine Attorney General to mediate. ​

I particularly don't want to reveal how quickly Darrel can swing into action in an emergency. I don't understand why other contractors are so hard to schedule, but Darrel is the most accommodating tradesmen I have ever encountered. I suppose it won't be that risky to vouch for his high expertise and the efficiency with which he solves house wiring problems. Probably won't hurt to mention what a good guy he is and how well he explains what he is proposing to do or what he has done. He respects one's intelligence. Ok, ok, so his charges are reasonable, too. So anyway, as a favor to me, please don't hire Darrell for at least a few years so that I can have as much of his time as I want. I'm pretty old and you young people can afford to wait a while. If you are unwilling to grant my favor and you do hire Darrel, you will be getting the best electrician around. But maybe YOU could hold off on recommending him to others for enough time for Darrel to complete my projects. Contractors these days seem more interested in the big jobs than the everyday small ones we all have eventually. P&D concentrates on what he called the "Mom & Pop" jobs.
