I usually never write reviews, but I depend on reading other people's to help me when I am evaluating products and services for anything I want to purchase. I decided to write a review for Down East Electrical because I wanted others looking for an electrician and company in southern ME to know about how great they are. I was under pressure to address an electrical problem in our home that was creating all kinds of problems from - a number of our circuits were not working to, and very importantly, we had no hot water nor could use anything that drew too many AMPS. We had electrical cords running to outlets in different rooms and were just hoping we could keep the air conditioning going with the heat waves we had in July 2023. We had no idea what the problem was, and it was going on for 1.5 months, with no end in sight. I was worried about how long it would take to get a date for someone to come help us also. I searched and quite by chance found Down East Electrical in Scarborough, ME. I read two recent reviews and it really caught my attention. I hope my review does the same thing for someone else also. Everyone at this company is dedicated to customer service and great communications. From the moment I called in (after 6pm by the way), I spoke to one of the owners. He listened and provided feedback immediately, and even took a direction that same evening about what he could do next to help us. Even though he had bookings all the way out to November, he made us a priority...real personal touch. We then set-up a date for a live inspection by them as to exactly what they needed to do and bring for a service date, and likely the coordination with CMP. Their experienced electrician came out and explained what he found, and answered all my questions. Their team of people worked to get parts and coordinate schedules to make this happen for us ASAP. We did not have to wait long, and in one day they came in and totally fixed the problem. We were ecstatic with joy. They are all professional and treat each customer personally. Just buying products is perhaps more black and white to read reviews for, but when Service work is needed, that often can have challenges, but not the case for Down East Electrical. It was such a pleasure to do business with them. I wish all contractors could be as responsive, honest and sincere as they were. I was definitely scared about starting a search to find an electrician, because I never use them and how would I know for sure that I was picking a good one and making the right decision. That's the reason I am writing this because I want to help others by making the process and choice easier, if and when you have a need. I'm so happy I found a great company for my electric work! After getting frustrated with other electricians and the whole process of finding a good one, I found Downeast, and am so glad I did. They did great work and made the whole process really easy for me. We bought a house that needed a lot of repairs and maintenance since we completely renovated it, and I had trouble finding electricians who were responsive (no responses for days is a red flag for me) or gave me any breakdowns of their quotes. I want to know exactly what I'm paying for so I didn't think that was an unreasonable request. It was honestly getting overwhelming just how underwhelming so many electrical companies are with their customer service. When I contacted Downeast, they responded to me immediately and walked me through all the costs and steps of all the electric work that would need to be done. They helped me install pendant lights, recess lights and ceiling fans, mini splits, and new outlets in most of my rooms. Had some wiring done for some new appliances that I needed hard wired too. AND the icing on the cake (though it should be expected but is actually oddly rare): they cleaned up after themselves - no stray wiring pieces or insulation left for me to clean up, just a home clean exactly how they found it. It seems small but I appreciated that SO much. The last thing I wanted to come home to was a construction mess. They were always so professional, on time, and on top of everything that it put me at ease that I was getting great work done, but even more so, a trustworthy electrical company that was readily responding to any questions I had. One of the master electricians, Paul, is clearly an expert and has been doing this for a long time -- he was able to troubleshoot some issues with wiring we had, and explained how he was going to approach it in a way I understood. No electrician speak that went over my head. Such a professional and honestly just a respectful, nice guy. I found myself in need of an electrician for a problem that occurred with our kitchen outlets. I was pleasantly surprised to get a call back quickly from Downeast Electrical Services after trying to contact many other electricians. In southern Maine in the busy summer season, it is almost impossible to get help with electrical problems. There is so much new construction, it is very difficult to find electricians willing to answer maintenance calls. John was very kind and went out of his way to make one of his electricians available for me right away. One of his top electricians, Daryn, came and helped me out. I found Daryn to be extremely skilled and thorough as well as very pleasant. He took the time to explain everything to me and he not only resolved the problem but he tested and checked my entire electrical panel out for safety. He also fixed another outlet I had noticed a problem with. John followed up several times during the process to ensure everything was going smoothly and he made sure the bill was fair and accurate based on the work and time that was spent. I found his pricing to be extremely fair and honest. Ellen, another member of the office staff also followed up several times to make sure everything went smoothly and that I was satisfied with the work. Their booking and accounting system is automated and very streamlined and all of the documents were emailed quickly. This spring, my family and I purchased a summer home in Maine and have been renovating it. Fortunately, I've been lucky enough to find Down East electrical, who have been reliable and trustworthy with timelines, cost and quality of service. They quoted and worked on several projects for me including installing new outlets, running wire for new recessed ceiling lights, and fixing some electrical work that was screwed up by another company. They completed work within budget and the timeline they promised and given what a wonderful job they did, I plan to hire them for additional projects. Downeast has licensed, experienced and vetted electricians. My hard lesson learned is that in Maine it seems that any old Joe schmo can appear to know what they are doing but they have little to no qualification. Initially I hired a different company who messed up so badly that I failed my inspection. That is when I heard about Downeast electrical from a neighbor and contacted Paul and his team. They came in to save the day and fixed shoddy and incomplete work left by others who didn't know what they were doing. I don't write many reviews unless I feel the service is so noteworthy that it's worth sharing. I'm just so glad to have finally found a trustworthy electrical company. Downeast Electrical Services installed a MRCOOL mini-split system for me and the installation went smoothly. The technicians were professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. The outdoor unit ended up having a manufacturer issue. MRCOOL sent a replacement condenser, and Downeast came back out to install the new unit and make sure everything was working correctly. They took the time to troubleshoot the problem and handled the replacement without any hassle. The guys who came out were great and the work was done professionally.
