The smell of Incense…read morewafts to remind you that this has just the right blend of new age to anchor this place yet keep it the same times a bit woo woo - this is the place to buy a magazine for the season. Periodicals are always refreshed and Good people work here to support your perusal of them. Interview Magazine for example by Andy Warhol ( who doesn't want this in their home ) and this place has exotic internationally thick magaiznes like Apartmento which like a true book for a library this is not one you just read or look fit its to build your own person archive of books. The act of wrapping gifts is also present here and the creative wrapping paper exists here and nice people to actually wrap it for you so if you get something like a childrens book decimated to Harriett Beecher Stowe or even the Artist-formerly-known-as-Prince they can wrap it for you ( but its up to you to make sure the price tag has been removed as ive not done this one time and I still blame myself. ) so if you'd looking for a fresh Tarot Deck a book on Silvia Plath or Dorothy Parker this bookstore is for you as it's just the right blend of New York with our lovely City Of Angels.

Books, magazines, records, greeting cards, tarot cards, novelty items, smokes; they've got a great selection departing from the mundanity of the mainstream. What can I say, I am exactly the kind of person who belongs in this curated brand of alternative media's demographic (minus the witchy stuff, but if tarot and the occult appeal to you, you may find that portion of DP's inventory enticing). For instance, on one visit, I picked up a biography of kraut psych band CAN; if you happen to be aware of aforementioned band's existence, chances are you're in this demographic also. Go to the Daily Planet when you get the chance. On another trip to DP, I bought the Heartworm Reader, a collection of poems published by Heartworm Press, DP's owner's husband's publisher. (If such creative collaboration interests you and you are not already aware, DP's Amy Lee and HP's Wes Eisold are also in an excellent band known as Cold Cave.) Funnily, I knew of the band prior to stumbling upon the shop but was completely oblivious to the connection at first despite being pleasantly surprised to discover they stocked Cold Cave's records in their limited (however high quality) vinyl section. I always recommend the Daily Planet to likeminded friends visiting Hollywood, and they usually end up adding it to their lists of favorite LA spots, too.

I came during the holiday season so it perfectly overlooks the giant tree and we even had a live Christmas performance right outside Everything is so well organized and has books for everyone and even some retail items like CDs and trinkets. There are a ton of places to sit and read a preview before buying any books. I loved how everything was organized and could wander around here for hours.

I was promised validated parking, yet I still had to pay the full parking price. I also intended to purchase the more affordable option, but it was out of stock at the time. My biggest concern was my phone interaction with Marie. She came across as rushed, apathetic, and unprofessional, and the call became increasingly frustrating toward the end. The level of service felt minimal and dismissive, and I ended the call feeling uneasy and without resolution. I am still uncertain whether my order was properly completed. Marie stated she was "pretty sure she clicked it" regarding my emailed receipt, but I have not received when I was on the call with her. I followed her instructions and checked both my spam and trash folders, with no success. She did say the email should be in my inbox, spam, or trash by the end of today. Additionally: * I was not given a total before my card was charged * I was not asked whether I am a Barnes & Noble member, which I am; I later had to call back to request a partial refund, and the way this was explained to me was confusing * The prices were $10-$20 higher per book, which was only explained after I questioned the charges Finally, rather than resolving these issues directly, I was referred to 1-800-THE-BOOK.

Used, re-shrink-wrapped books on sale for more than the cover price. And my personal favorite -- headshots of random failed actors. Some of these go for an unfathomable $10. My friend asked if these prices were in Yen, at which point the cranky owner picked up his phone and started screaming "Security!" Hilarious! We walked out of the store laughing hysterically. They advertise that they sell mushrooms and Salvia, but I'm pretty sure this place has to be a cover for something non-legal that goes on in the back. It's the only explanation why dirty, used kitchen appliances sell for twice the price of a new one. There aren't enough martini's on the Boulevard to get someone drunk enough to actually buy anything here. This place is best enjoyed in the midst of a bar crawl or Sunday Funday. Have a few, come here and laugh your ass off. Just don't touch anything -- the owners will scream at you and then call security. On second thought, touch everything you see. It only adds to the hilarity!

There is an excellent collection of books on strange and marginal stuff, from prison tattoo culture to the occult. They carry some really nice art books which I've enjoyed combing through. As a gift shop you can't do much better. Lots of cards and a variety of gifts of every shape and form, plushies, statuettes, action figures and refrigerator magnets. Wacko is also home to La Luz de Jesus art gallery which regularly cycles through the work of various artists. I recommend paying attention to your parking meter (or parking spot), as you are likely to spend more time here than you initially intended to.
