A week after we visited there someone vandalized the back or side of the building with graffiti, which is unfortunate! It's a swank place, and I hope that more people realize just how much fun it is to be there. The seats seem kind of retro and has a lot of big wide curves to it. I hope that the musty smell can get cleared out somehow because that's a little overwhelming, but I think it's just from being closed up for so long. We will definitely be back! I saw a lot of martinis and cocktails coming out of the bar. There are waitresses, but it looked like just 1 bartender. She was BUSY! Waitresses were just standing there while the 1 'tender was working her ass off. We sat at the bar and barely got service because she was so busy. I of course don't know how the place works, but it seems like someone could have helped her. We only stayed for 1 beer and left because we couldn't get any of the bartender's time. Within 5-10 mins we had our drinks and we were screaming out lungs out along with the rest of the bar to great 90s favorites. It was sweaty dirty and awesome. Seeing it is the closest place that serves alcohol I had to give it a try. I was surprised. On a week night, the place was full of patrons of all ages. There were 20 somethings (not college kids) drinking mixed drinks and bottles, some working stiffs drinking City Brew out of a can, and some of the die-hard old timers also drinking City Brew out of a can. I liked the place already. I sat next to a geezer which I immediately regretted but it would have been rude to move! He was a few drinks past polite discussion but he decided to give it a go anyway. Bourbon and coke for the hubby, Spotted Cow for me. The bartender had to give me a taste first since it hadn't been pulled all day (with all the cans of City Brew I guess I can see why). It was still good. More expensive than the other two places in the area at $5.50. The place is a dark, smokey, local watering hole. People go there to DRINK. And despite it's lack of any sort of charm and pathetic attempt at a "gator" theme, I really liked the place.

Nicolas David from the Voice has played here numerous times...and this tavern consistently draws acts from the Twin Cities. The best part of the whole deal is that I have never been charged a cover to get in and see good music. Sometimes, during shows, they serve free beer in the back from a keg...most likely PBR. Free music, and free beer? Is this heaven? Looking around the bar, enjoy the years and years of graffiti on the walls in the back of the bar. There are some really great artists in this town...and some fancy poets. The bathrooms are so full of markered writing, you could stand in there for a number of minutes just to take it in. I was impressed with the selection of crappy and not-so-crappy beer, and the service was great. The sound from the stage was great, and there was a little area where people would dance. I found the people watching here to be second to none...such an eclectic mix of society in here.
