With last renovations in 1999, the property is in horrible condition. Everything is peeling, broken, smelly or dirty. While the exterior is still as iconic as it once was, this resort is in a state of despair. Let's back up. Arriving to the Fairmont, valets did not offer to help with bags or even hold the door, just stood there chatting. Front desk staff were kind and helpful, but the lobby looks like a terminal of JFK rather than a hotel, the amount of people is absolutely crazy. Infinite amounts of screaming kids and zero luxury atmosphere. If a Carnival cruise was designed in a French revival style, this is what it would look like. The guest room is acceptable and while renovations are needed there also, the views of the river to partially make up for the massive shortcomings. Perhaps the highlight of the property is some of the included activities, such as ice fishing and a beautiful ice skating rink during the winter. That was truly fun. The dinner restaurant here is quite good as well, servicing Quebec classics like locally raised duck and local venison. The lounge area overlooking the river leaves a lot to be desired, the staff work very hard, but at any given point, there is hardly anybody working and just like the lobby itself, very crowded and without a dress code, resulting in a very sloppy atmosphere and kids running around. Lastly, the Nordic spa. This should be the highlight, but once again, it is not proportional to the number of guests. There is no space to even turn around in those pools, no adult pool option and just a sense of filth. Thus, as a whole, Le Manoir Richelieu is not a property I can recommend.

The casino itself is in a separate but easily reachable building a block away. If you like gaming, it's nearby; if you don't, it more it. Super friendly and helpful bilingual staff who appreciated my high school French politely but helped me in both languages. Spacious, clean rooms. Ours had a huge bathtub/shower set up. Nice ground floor bar/restaurant- we only had drinks, though, as we sampled the food in town. Gym was functional, but the equipment was somewhat dated. Ample free parking: a few spots out front but way more in a tiered lot in the back. We've been here before, and we'll be back.

Never even offer to take care of our luggage, Manager says 'I"m only starting next Monday so what can I do?" They are walking distance to the local Government operated Casino. People certainly do not use that hotel for there good manners nor there smarts.

These rooms are large spacious rooms with a Queen bed, jacuzzi tub, sunken living room with fireplace, and private balcony overlooking the St. Lawrence river. The other building is the main lodge. We had a beautifully decorated corner room in the main lodge, which was spacious, had 2 walls of windows, and access to a shared balcony. Each room in the main building however is different. The hotel sits high on a hill with spectacular views. There is a fenced in pool at an upper level. We had breakfast included, which was one of the best breakfasts we've ever had. Buffet table with danishes, croissants, fresh fruit, etc. You can, in addition, order one of about 12 egg or crepe dishes off a menu. Food is not only tasty, but is presented beautifully and creatively on the plate. Dining room has 2 parts- one is more casual, and one is more formal. There is also an outside patio with (an electric) fire going in a fire pit, and an outside covered area with wicker furniture with cushions where you can gather for a drink. We used this area, while waiting for preparation of our desserts. Dinner is fantastic. 5 course meal (table-d'hote). We liked it so much that we chose to eat here a second time during our 3 night stay. Would recommend this restaurant even if you are staying at a different hotel in the area. Hotel is run by a family, and service is friendly and warm. Very helpful in giving advice regarding and booking activities. For those who visit the area, we recomment the following: 1.Baie St. Paul- artist colony with lots of galleries, restaurants 2.Iisle aux Courdres- take free ferry across. Rent bicycles- tour the island in about 2 hours. 3. Hautes-Gorges Provincial Park- hiking, biking, kayaking and canoeing on the Malbaie river, boat tour 4. Whale watching (amazing- saw lot of whales!) 5. Magnificent golf course overlooking the river

The room we stayed in - La Brunante - was for my money distinctly better than the other options: a spare, Japanese-style room with a vast and snowy king-size bed with a spectacular view of the wintry Saint Lawrence river. The private bathroom has a deep soaking tub that's almost as rewarding. The proprietor, Sylvain, is helpful without hovering, and his breakfast (served from 8-9:30 sharp) is worth waking up for: even in winter, we got four courses of fresh fruit, juices, crisp bacon, an effervescently light quiche. There's a stretch of beach just across the road to ramble on at low tide, and two downstairs fireplaces for warming up afterward. Definitely worth a stay if you're in town.

The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with flavor. The pasta with burrata cheese was another highlight--simple, fresh, and executed flawlessly. The sugar pie was the star of dessert and a perfect taste of Quebec tradition. We were still talking about it long after the meal was over. Beyond the food, the service and atmosphere made the evening special. Warm hospitality, excellent recommendations, and a relaxed setting created an experience that felt both elevated and welcoming. A true five-star meal. If you're anywhere near Charlevoix, make a reservation--you won't regret it.

I really enjoyed my escargots appetizer, served with puff pasty. The entrees were good, but not great. The fish was very bland, and the veggies could have been more flavorful as well. We enjoyed our food but were hoping for something a little more as far as seasoning. Better lighting and more flavorful food could have made our experience here better, but we did have a nice time!
