Happened into Casita Mexicana to try something different in the downtown Killarney area. It seemed like this spot was new to the area and was located in a back parkway along with a few other shops. Our server, Tim, was a joy! He was knowledgeable about the menu, the area, and even brought a plain nacho starter complimentary so we could use the extras for our quesadillas. The portions were not overly large but we all left feeling full. The margaritas seemed to be light on liquor but had good taste. Pricing was very fair but tables are limited so make sure you give yourself enough time. read more

My wife and I went to Ireland for two weeks to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. We were on a tour with 40 other tourists and we spent two days in Killarney. The tour provided breakfast every day and dinner about half the time. We knew we'd have a night to ourselves so I went on Yelp to see what dining options were available. There were a lot of pubs which didn't really interest me but I saw that there was Mexican restaurant named Casita Mexicana that was well regarded among many American tourists. The idea of getting Mexican food in Ireland sounded pretty off-the-wall but when we got there we were ready for something different. This place is off the main road through town and if it wasn't for a small sign placed in the sidewalk you wouldn't know it was there. We had to walk down an alley to get to it but here was a parking lot right out front. We got there at 5:00 pm which was right when they opened. We are lucky we did because all but two tables had already been reserved. The decor was fairly typical but they were playing American southern blues music which was out of place but perhaps the people of Ireland didn't know that. There were no chips and salsa unfortunately and I wanted to get a margarita but it wasn't available. Regardless I ordered ground beef tacos and my wife ordered enchiladas. We had to wait for a bit for our food even though we were the only customers in the place for a while until an American couple came in and took the table next to us. When I got my tacos they had come with corn taco shells like you'd buy in a supermarket. The meat came in a terra cotta pot and had beans mixed in. The waitress asked if I wanted mild, medium, hot or Mexican hot so I chose medium and it was plenty spicy. Also, I guess because it's Ireland, there was an option for French fries instead of pinto beans which I can't stand. Potatoes with every meal! The food was quite good. I only got three taco shells and had plenty of ground beef left over so ended up eating it with a spoon. My wife liked her enchiladas so we were both very happy. It seems Mexican food is quite popular in Ireland. We saw several burrito shops in Dublin with lines out the door. Even the smallest towns had Mexican restaurants and a small cafe we went to in Donegal had chimichangas on the menu. While it wasn't quite authentic I would recommend this place if you're in Killarney and want to try something different. read more

Let me start out by saying I live in the mecca of fine mexican cuisine (California). I must eat mexican food twice a week on average, and I must say that this restaurant is now in my top five for best mexican food. Had the chorizo/pork burrito with a amber ale and it was a match made in heaven! I would highly suggest this stop if you are in the area and want a break from the traditional Irish food scene. Note for Americans ---- Chips and salsa are considered Nachos on their menu and are not complementary. Not really a problem, but just a heads up. Cheers! read more

There are plenty good spuds to be had all over this country, but after a week of sampling the Irish cuisine a Mexican girl from San Diego, CA was in serious burrito withdrawals! Casita Mexicana turned out to be a win! Rather than traditional Mexican food as the name implied this place was more of a wild fusion of "new age" Hispanic foods, oh and throw in the Aztecan decor! There were Mexican items on the menu, Spanish style tapas, Tex-Mex flavor, and hey, would it be Ireland without the chips (fries)! The location was just a short walk off the main road with parking out front. The decor was welcoming with figures on the walls and menu that look Aztecan rather than the Mexican sombrero wearing rancher. The nacho appetizer was served Spanish style, each item parted out as a tapa. Not the usual pile on one plate. Regardless... the flavor of meat, guacamole, cheese and chips was fantastic. What I assume was their version of pico or fresca, was sweet but still delish! I asked for their hottest salsa and I was given BBQ sauce, with 0 heat. No big, I asked to add jalapeño to my chorizo and chicken burrito. The burrito was delicious, but again, more of a Tex-Mex flavor. Also worth mentioning, it was served somewhat wet burrito style, required silverware to eat it. Service was friendly and attentive. Totally worth trying out if you are on potato overload! read more

This place was definitely a bit of the beaten path! We were enjoying our last 'on our own' evening at the end of our 9 day tour of Ireland. We thought we would look for something that would remind us of home so of course being American, we looked for Mexican (-: We had an excellent meal. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. We saw the review on yelp for this place as my boyfriend's father is Hispanic and was craving Mexican food. After reading the reviews I was very excited to visit this place. The good- great service. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was quite comfortable. Try the margarita, it was just like our home state of Texas. The odd-meatballs and garlic bread at a Mexican restaurant? Mmm ok, I am completely aware that I am in Ireland but this was a little bit of a laugh to us. Overall it was a great experience, but I wouldn't call it Mexican food. The food was as close as we will get though, here in Ireland. And the plates had great taste and wonderful seasoning. read more

Amazing food!!! Being from the states I am accustomed to cheap easy Mexican food and the occasional higher end take on arguably the best cuisine in the world - but this place makes me ashamed of the Mexican food I have put in my mouth up until this point. We started with the Nachos with Cheese (aka chips with melted cheese and guacamole, a "sweetish" tomato pico, and sour cream) and I was taken aback with the cheese being employed. I live in Wisconsin - land of beer and cheese - and I could not place the absolutely perfect "breed" of cheese they chose to employ on such a typically simple starter. Spot on, enough said. I ordered the enchilada which was recommended over other main courses and I was not disappointed! My travel partner ordered the locally sourced Irish Beef (which was amazing) and I splurged on the duck enchilada. Not exaggerating, this duck enchilada was the best enchilada I have ever eaten. Options for spice, on all dishes, include mild, medium, hot, or Mexican hot - and the duck was perfect at the "hot" level. The tortilla was cooked better than I could imagine an tortilla being prepared and all future enchiladas will likely be inferior. The trade off for perfection is the price - this is the best iteration of an enchilada imaginable but it was €21. Mexican food is typically a bit cheaper, at least I the US, but I will gladly up pay for the culinary life changing experience that Casita has to offer!!! read more

There once were some folks from Minnesota Who couldn't stomach more taters and bread of soda. The wait for India was slow So we tried Mexico. So glad we did! 'Twas the day's perfect coda. Fantastic, fresh Mexican food. We loved the locally sourced beef fajitas and the chicken & chorizo enchiladas. Most of the menu can be made gluten free upon request. We asked for a little cup/dish of their hottest sauce - what a great flavor! Also excellent: the duck and black currant (or was it black cherry?) tapa. Stared with the house made sangria and it was excellent. Service started great but really slowed down later. Started with the nachos con carne which comes with a very nice salsa with a sweet taste, guacamole and sour cream. We both had enchiladas - he had the chicken/chorizo medium hot and I had pulled pork mild. Fabulous fillings. We each had half. I preferred the chicken/chorizo but medium was a tad too spicy for me. Would have liked it mild. Also shared a margarita - not very good - too sweet and very small. They appear to have a car park right in front of the door(which we didn't realize) which is a great asset here. read more

I am gluten-sensitive and found this restaurant on my gluten free app. My husband and I both loved this restaurant with it's charming atmosphere, attentive staff and amazing food. We loved this place so much we went back twice! The menu has so many authentic options but we were also thrilled that they had vegan and vegetarian options too including vegan cheese! We ordered the nachos which were super yummy. For dinner we tried the quesadilla, salad and Mexican rice and beans. Everything was fantastic and the service was wonderful. Wonderful people, but this isn't Mexican food. Nor is it Tex-Mex. They serve unrecognizable dishes that have some distant influence from Mexican food, but it's obvious the chefs know next to nothing of the actual cuisine. Probably fools the locals, though. read more

Overpriced and disappointing. The portion sizes are a little small and don't really resemble Mexican food in taste. I wouldn't have minded so much if the taste was great but it was average at best. The service was scattershot and on the slow side; we had about six different waitresses over and back to our table. Our mains took a long time to arrive but the manager apologised so I wasn't too put out. The sangria was very good. Came here with my family (5 of us and my one year old). A tiny little family run business. Looks like a mexican shack from outside. Beautiful inside. The burritos are to die for. All the food is to die for! Just dont order too much as you get big portions :).. i wish they had a restaurant like this close to my home :( to top off my amazing (extra hot) burrito with rice on the side..i had coffee and a hot chilli chocolate mousse. What a treat away from the usual Irish faire. I'm from California, so this isn't exactly like what we have but it was really good. We had the nachos and quesadilla. It really gets busy on weekends. Different than American Mexican but tasty and fresh nonetheless. I recommend it if you get tired of fish and chips, it's a fantastic alternative. The margaritas were delightful. Chips and salsa are not complimentary but very good and worth the couple euros. I had the chicken enchiladas would have liked if it was served with rice and beans as oppose to just rice but they were great just slightly harder tortilla than you would get in the states. read more

This was an excellent meal for this Texan getting weary of traditional Irish food. Great margaritas as well. Also, I have Celiac and they can make most meals gluten free and do not share fryers! I'd call it slightly above average in the food department. I had enchiladas, which were good. Margaritas were only okay. I'm a self admitted salsa and chip snob, and this was where they fell short (no salsa and okay chips). The ancho sauce was really, really good. One of the kids chose to use it in lieu of ketchup for his fries. Staff was SUPERB. Very friendly (actually found this to be very consistent across the island). My son got some of the enchiladas 'Mexican hot'.... They were. He likes his food spicy and they delivered on that. read more
