First, check his CA state Bar profile. Documentation of ripping people off. Poor people. Low income people. He spent less than 25 minutes total on my case and charged me THOUSANDS of dollars. He then contacts me and said the courts are requiring me to pay for some additional filing fees and he needs another $350, but to make the check payable to him because "he gets a discount". I called the courthouse and they said they've never heard of the filing he stated I "HAD" to complete, and no attorneys EVER get discounts on fees for the courts. When I told him I called the courthouse, he made up some lie up saying "oh wait ya that's for a different case, sorry, never mind about that". Con man. read more

This guy Gabriel highly recommended the other parent with in my case that doesn't even have a place to stay never visited my kids never even tried to take the time to talk the children virtually or anything nor did he ever answers my calls concerning my children ever in the three years of going back to forth to court. Really bad lawyer, he tried to help me get custody of my kids and failed (ended up getting custody through the department of social services). Gabriel would show up late to court making me look really bad...the list is way tooo long. I think I could have done a better job myself. Now that my ex and I speak she told me that one day in court he asked her if she needed help with her DUI case lol, wtf!! Gabriel would tell me to show up at 730 and meet him at the cafeteria, I'd be there at 730 and he would show up at 1130-12 sometimes. Hes very unprofessional, I signed the retainer and he would ask for more money for "filing fees". DO NOT USE THIS INCOMPETENT ATTORNEY. I went to him to represent one of my family members and he was worthless. He charged me $4,000 up front and couldn't do a thing to help. I only went to him because he was an old friend of the family but that was a huge mistake. I put my trust in him to defend my family member in a criminal case and obviously that was the first mistake. He has no experience in criminal law. He wanted my family member to accept a "deal" that would mean PRISON for 2 years. I told him I no longer needed his services and wanted my money back. I experienced this attorneys shady ways- he will purposely make your case more difficult in order to lengthen his need and make more money. If you are looking to a quick resolution, think again. This guy will drain you!! This attorney was assigned to our case as Minors Consult, basically becoming our child's attorney. I believe he does appointed minors consult, bc I cannot see how he can get clients on his own. I looked him up on Yelp and saw 2 stars with all of the negative reviews. And take note- all of the negative reviews are the ones with high former reviews. While all of his good reviews appear to be fake with only 1 or 2 prior reviews! I experienced all of the negative reviews. He is unprofessional as he is late every time- and you bet YOU are paying for that. He went against everything my child wanted. I believe he did this on purpose to continue the fighting between the other parent and I, and therefore, extend his need/pay. He is also a bully, just as other reviews have stated. Does not have Child's best interest in mind goes off what bitter baby mother has to say about a father long ago past, and who is trying to have joint custody of their child. Rude and would not give the father the opportunity to tell their side of child custody issues with ex wife, went based solely off what ex wife said and told the father that he runs his law office the way he wants and that is the end of discussion and he will see him in court. Worst Attorney I have ever met. I regret the day I hired him. He will lie to your face and has no clue in what he is doing . He told me to take a deal in my case it was a one year live in anger management program or go to trial and risk 1 year in jail. I wanted to go to trial but he said to do the program. Its a live in program so the counselor will go to your home complete it and you'll be done with it , So I took the deal only to find out that in California there is no such program. I found out later the court expected me to live in a home to complete and anger management program. I was not told that by this attorney but I would of still done the program. I was asked by my attorney I needed to pay another $5,000 for him to continue to represent me. He quit and at the next court hearing I told the court that a program the District attorney offered does not exist. The judge then said why did I accept the deal. I told him because my attorney told me it was in my best interest to accept the deal. Then your lawyer should of known that a program like that does not exist so you could not hold your part of the deal and the next words out of the judges mouth was bailiff take him into custody. Hire this lawyer and you will be sorry and you'll think back at what I wrote and say I should of listen. Beware of this attorney. read more

I have used Mr. Castellanos since 2009 and would highly recomend him. My daughters mother was only allowing me to have about half of my visitation. She even went as far as making false accusations and alledging abuse. My visitation was stopped altogether. With Mr. Castellanos help I now have sole legal custody and mother is only allowed monitored visitation with my daughter. He was always honest and up front on what he could do for me. So far he has fulfilled every promise made and more. He clearly cares about children and his clients. He has also been very understanding of my finances and worked with me in every way. I hired Mr. Castellanos as I was considering contesting a recent court Family Law court order. After research, I was convinced a motion to set side was best. However, after a consultation with Mr. Castellanos, he insisted a motion for reconsideration was best and pressured me into hiring him on the spot since I had 2 days left to file this motion. After pressuring me into paying him a $9,000 flat "non-refundable" fee upfront, he called me and said he will not do the motion for reconsideration, and that motion to set aside was best (as I said all along). After I hired him, he dropped the ball on important deadlines and was oblivious to the matters of my case to the point I had to fire him and hire a new attorney within a few weeks! Other than a few small e-mail exchanges, a two page draft of the motion he began working on, and reviewing a few documents, Mr. Castellanos did nothing else on my case during these few weeks until I fired him. Yet he refused to refund any portion of the $9,000 I paid him. After I made it clear I would pursue State Bar intervention, he finally sent me a bill (over 6 months later) itemizing work he never did--to justify why he kept the $9,000 (minus $600).
