I have been going to this check cashing place at 172nd St. Saint Nicholas Avenue, but I am not that satisfied with their service at all. Charge = 1.75% as of June 1, 2008. They are all rude people and I guess they assume that everyone is uneducated, and don't know better. These people do not believe in COURTESY and CUSTOMER SERVICE. Many of us know exactly how we want our cash. Let it be all $50s, all $100s or whatever, but these people don't even ask you HOW YOU WANT YOUR CASH. And whenever you tell them, they just try to give you the money HOWEVER THEY wish, NOT how you want it. Usually, you must repeat your request of HOW you want your money. They must think that everyone is just ignorant and not worth paying a little respect to. It is ridiculous, and feels very GHETTO. It does not have the feel of a banking business because of the lack of courtesy. It feels like they just have all the $100 bills in a safe to adore them and just worship them, because they sure don't want to hand it to you. I live in the area, and I am ashamed that my people cannot be courteous and treat all customers with respect and courtesy. The only reason that I am seeking their service is because at the time, I have no checking account. But I will be looking for a better place to do my business, and leave them with their own ghetto treatment. Everyone should teach them that we all need respect and customer service. Ask them to give you your cash how you want it. Maybe they will learn from us (the customers). Usualmente debes de repetirle como quieres tu dinero, y si tienes suerte alguna, tal vez se ocupan de darte tu dinero como lo pidas. No parece un lugar de banca, por la falta de cortesia. Tal parece que tienen todas las papeletas de $100 encerradas en una caja fuerte solo para adorarlas, porque en realidad no quieren darselas a los clientes. Ellos deben de pensar que todos sus clientes son idiotas, etupidos, o burros. Es realmente ridiculo. Yo vivo en el area, y me da pena y verguenza que mi gente actue asi en un establecimiento que se supone que es profesional. Debemos exigir lo que queremos, y tal vez ensenarles que si somos civilizados y merecemos un buen SERVICIO AL CLIENTE y buena CORTESIA. I've only used it for Western Union cash pick-ups. Fast service, the line might be big but moves steadily. Cute cashier girls. It's best if you know spanish, but they're okay in English too I guess. One time there was a girl going from window to window selling gift boxes of perfume...wasn't too thrilled to see her stealing my valuable lunch minutes. And I still got out of there fast. They sell cell phones in the back too. read more

This isn't the same Castle Check cashing place I go to but I will stress this to anyone who goes to the Castle Check Cashing on Dyckman. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE OUT OF YOUR CHECK WHEN THEY ARE CASHING IT. I had a check of 184$ and the lady told me 4.99$ was the fee. WHAT !!!!! I already knew how much was supposed to be taken out and when I told her that was wrong she said it was the fee and gave me the percentage number that was supposed to be taken out. I couldn't believe she said that so I asked her to do the math not once but twice and all she said was she didn't have to that the computer does it. I was calm and asked her that I wanted to speak to a manager. He came and corrected it so it wasn't all that bad but the very first time I had went their they charged the same amount for the same amount I was trying to cash. This tells me that this place is charging people 40% more then their supposed to be charged and since no one has spoken about it I guess it'll continue. Seems fishy if you ask me but i'm going today again with an even lower amount so we'll see what happens. Peace read more

Very disappointed. I occasionally play my lotto there with generally no problems. But, for one particular agent I have had a few run-ins that finally came to ahead on Sunday 6-24. I stood in line and waited and she called me up to the window and said "yes". I mentioned I wanted to play my numbers and she responded "I'm closed" and she started processing her paperwork and counting her till. I found that strange as to why she called me up in the first place. I returned back to my place on the line and went to the other agent on duty. When she was done assisting another customer she responded "the other lady told you the lotto machine is closed" My response that was not what she had said, she informed me that she was closed not indicating that the machine had been closed out. The first agent responded "no I said machine closed". And I retorted if that was the case why would you let me resume standing on the line to wait for another clerk when she, if there was any confusion to what might had been said and her window was in fact still open, just simply respond "sir the machine is closed and is there any thing else I can help you with" the problem would not had escalated. But, to let me stand on the line while she processed her paper work, count her till and walk to the back indicating her window was closed without saying anything was rude and unprofessional. This is not the first time having a problem with this particular agent which has finally prompted my review. In the past she has intentionally closed her window right when I got to the front of the line and walked to the back without saying a word. Another time she could not get the machine to read the card because she inserted wrong and when I tried to help her by pointing it out she barked back at me "I know what I doing, the problem is with your card" but once she listened and turned the card around and it processed not a simple apology. I know Lotto does not generate any revenue for stores and mainly is there for convenience. In addition check cashing places make money on transactions and tips for service I get the point why some clerks do not like to handle, no profit and no tips. But, in either case it is a service that is provided and prompt and professional customer service is expected otherwise remove the machine from your establishment. The problem is only one agent the rest are fine and professional but management needs to address this one particular person. I don't give anyone any problems at this establishment; I smile, talk nicely with no attitude nor rudeness. If I projected any of these negative responses then I can appreciate and understand a cold and unreceptive response. This is not the case and I expect to be treated with professionalism. read more

WOW! I couldnt agree more I found this place on 161st and Amasterdam ave. What a plesent experiance it ony had 4 windows but last week I went there and the manager informed me they were remodeling and making it really nice with 9 windows! I go to one castle check cashing at dyckman don't know if is the same but I always have a very good experience when I go there maybe is because I always go during the overnite time. There is only one girl working during that time but she is very fast and very friendly she always remember my name and adress me by my name she is very polite her name is Flower I recomend eveybody to go to this place. A little tip if you go during the overnite time there is very litlle line. read more

I have worked in a check cashing business before and there is a reason they do not give out large amounts to everyone. First, there are people that come in with really large checks $10,000 ++++ and they reserve it for those customers because honestly would you walk out with a bag of cash? (no discretion) i doubt it. Second the bank does not bring large amounts often and the stores collect them from customers and store them separate for again really large checks. And finally often the bank also refuses to give large amounts unless you have a large withdrawal or check. Finally, take the atm for example most only offer $20 denoms. and if you're lucky $10, If it were up to the customers they would all want 100s and 50s NEW bills. If it were up to the teller they would give it to you because its a lot faster to count 4 $100s then 20 $20s I had a customer once come in with a check close to $100,000, after we ran out of 100s and 50s we had to start counting 20s. We still had to put it all in a large bag and he was escorted out. just fyi. read more
