The pub is beautiful and cosy, the landlady was kind and cheerful and the food.....oh god, the food! We both had a starter of pigeon, not something you usually see on a pub menu and it was superbly cooked and tasted amazing. For my main I chose the steak burger with chips and onion rings, the burger was big, flavoursome and juicy and the touch I like is that the tomato ketchup on table was all homemade, not from a bottle! We will certainly come back to this awesome place if we are ever near the area again because it was outstanding!!

Despite being very busy, we were greeted warmly and with a smiles. The food was excellent, freshly made & cooked on the premises and at a very reasonable price. The Station was absolutely packed and looked a bit too fancy for us (we were in cycle gear). The Railway was the perfect fit. The atmosphere was cozy and warm with locals in their 30+ enjoying a Friday night pint. There were quite a few people here, but it wasn't too loud and the football wasn't on (a plus for us). I was initially hesitant about the food as pub food can be so hit and miss, but this place was AMAZING! My favorite dish was the homemade nachos with chili. I have never had homemade nachos and we should have ordered a dish each as we didnt want to share they were so good. My husband had the BBQ ribs, which were fantastic. Overall, it was a very appreciated warm meal at the end of a long day!

I'll explain why and try to be concise. The cuisine is exceptional. There's a good selection of quality drinks. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming -- the sort of place where complete strangers tend to strike-up conversation. The location is perfect, overlooking the Village Green, with a big beer garden behind, and a vast playing field behind that. It's a lovely village, nestled in the gently-undulating farming landscape of rural north-east Herts -- no wonder Braughing was recently awarded the prestigious "Village of the Year" accolade. The pub's menu always includes the best of local produce, from locally-reared beef to local pork sausages, alongside popular country pub dishes. (Braughing village is famous for, among other things, the delicious local sausages, and this is a good place to sample them.) Did I mention the pies? The pub usually has an older generation drinking there which is good if you want a change from the younger pubs such as The Castle Inn and The White Horse. There is also a fish and chip van that parks outside on Thursday evenings which sells reasonable fish and chips and makes sense after a few pints.

Very family friendly, we have been here for Sunday lunch many times (whole family plus dog) and for date night dinners. Always a friendly service; another great pub we are lucky to have in the near neighbourhood. It is usually pretty busy so booking ahead at weekends probably a good idea.
