We were in town for AAU basketball tourney and wanted lunch. Randomly chose this business as it was close to the tourney and we were hungry. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They took our order and the food was timely served. The inside of the business was welcoming, warm and clean. It was well set up and organized and plenty of room for large parties or small. Enjoyed chatting with locals while we were waiting for our food to go. Typical small town VT charm. The food was amazing and unexpectedly good! The hot ham sub was one of the best subs I have had in my life (45 years). The veggies and condiments were noticeably fresh and crisp. As we know post Covid this isn't always the case for veggies. The bread was so good and overall awesome. The pizza slice was huge as advertised. Not the best pizza I have ever had, however it was really good for a rainy day in VT. The mozzarella sticks and jalapeño poppers were fresh and top notch. Overall easy five stars. The dining room was well organized, and we were amazed to see the delicious pizzas being made and coming hot and fresh out of the oven from our seat in the dining room. The aroma of fresh baked pizza made my mouth water. I ordered my go to! Pepperoni pizza! The slice was gigantic and the cheese was dripping all over the place. The crust was crisp. The pepperoni was bountiful and cooked to perfection. My rice krispie treat, that I had for dessert, was massive, quite possibly the biggest I have ever seen. My father had tuna salad. I'm writing this review because this is the second time that we got a cold pizza. My husband went down and ordered a large extra cheese with onions. They told him 45 minutes. He stayed there and waited and when he went up to get his pizza they told him they didn't have one for him. He said we have a large extra cheese over here that you can have. Which was sitting out I take for a good 20 minutes cuz it was cold. The guy the guy told them that you didn't order it. So he handed him a pizza that was cold. And charge full. doesn't want to cause a scene he took the pizza brought home and wasn't fresh-made. It's a shame that we have to pay for incompetent employees and basically call my husband a liar. We ordered six pizzas and three orders of garlic knots several hours in advance for a family gathering. When we arrived, there were no garlic knots ready and they were not on the kitchen ticket. Nobody could tell us definitively if we had been charged for them since we prepaid (turns out we were). Ordered a garden salad with grilled chicken. Got a salad with deli meat on it. Tried to order a meatball, hot pepper, and spinach pizza but were told they were out of spinach. Asked about getting basil instead. Said they were out of basil too. Settled for broccoli. When we got home we saw that they put a few tiny pieces of torn up basil on it. There's not much to choose from in the way of pizza in Castleton, however these guys do a pretty decent job. I've had my fair share of pizza from there and don't have any complaints in the food. I haven't tried much else from their menu, but they do offer a variety of sandwiches and wraps. They are pretty high priced at $18 for a large pizza, however they have specials during the week that are great. My biggest complaint from this place besides the fact that they don't deliver, is that they always forget something when I call in an order. That something is usually mozzarella sticks, so I end up having to wait in the store an additional 5-10 mins when I go to pick up. It's mostly college kids that work there and some are definitely friendlier than others. We chalk up these "faults" to them being the the biggest pizza joint in town so they know they can get away with it. There are other options, and they deliver and have just as good food. read more
