Horrible attorney. You are better off doing a pro se eviction (meaning evicting on your own,…read morewithout an attorney). Mr. Alper was hired by the leaseholder of our apt, who did not live in the apt with the squatters and with us roommates. The leaseholder often had to work, so I and another roommate attended court for the case on behalf of the leaseholder who hired him. In fact, our landlord paid back the leaseholder for Mr. Alper's final bill because she realized Mr. Alper did not do a good job. My first day at court, when I met Mr. Alper, he actually admitted to me that he waited too long to go to the marshal in the first place. It is a fact that he waited 3 WEEKS after getting a judgment from the court before hiring a Marshal. Keep in mind that Mr. Alper was hired to evict two crazy, drug-dealing squatters living with us, one of whom had a long rap sheet and was sent to Riker's Island for assaulting a security guard while living with us. The squatters were able to obtain orders to show cause, which also delayed the process, but if Mr. Alper had contacted the Marshal the day he received the judgment from the court, instead of waiting 3 WEEKS, the process would not have taken so long. In addition to waiting so long to contact the Marshal in the first place, once the squatters had exhausted their options (including the Orders to Show Cause) and we were in our final day of court with the judge deciding in our favor, all Mr. Alper had to do was contact the Marshal's office via phone or email that very day to tell them to proceed with the eviction. However, instead of contacting the Marshal, Mr. Alper advised me to sleep somewhere else because he said it was dangerous for me with the squatters there. If he was so concerned with my safety, why didn't he contact the Marshal that day to tell him to proceed with the eviction? Why did he wait? So I contacted the Marshal's office myself to see if they could proceed with the eviction on my word. The Marshal's office did tell me if they received confirmation from Mr. Alper that very day to proceed with the eviction, the eviction could be scheduled for before Thanksgiving, but they needed to hear it from Mr. Alper. Finally, I emailed Mr. Alper, telling him I was scared to have the squatters there, and so he finally contacted the Marshal's office. However, because he waited a couple days from the final court date to contact the Marshal's office, the eviction was pushed back, and with Thanksgiving coming up, the eviction was pushed back to after Thanksgiving, which ended up costing us another week. However, if Mr. Alper had contacted the Marshal on the day of our court date, as I asked him to, and as any good lawyer would do, the eviction would have been set for before Thanksgiving. Again, this was confirmed to me by the Marshal himself that the squatters would have been evicted before Thanksgiving had Mr. Alper contacted the Marshal on the day of the final judgment, instead of waiting a couple days. In Mr. Alper's response to my Google review, he does not address the facts that he 1) waited 3 WEEKS in the first place to contact the Marshal, and 2) waited a couple days to actually tell the Marshal to proceed with the eviction, which ended up pushing the eviction past Thanksgiving. The orders to show cause have nothing to do with Mr. Alper's own delayed actions. Mr. Alper cost us 3 weeks initially by waiting to go to the Marshal in the first place, and then another week by waiting to tell the Marshal to proceed with the eviction (because of the Thanksgiving holiday, it cost us a week), so a total of 4 WEEKS is what Mr. Alper cost us. Also, in the response to my Google review, Mr. Alper says I was not a client but again, although the leaseholder hired him, I and the other roommates were the recipients of Mr. Alper's work by having to live with the squatters an additional month due to Mr. Alper taking too long. Also, Mr. Alper's reponse to my Google review questioned why I waited til 2024 to write a review when this happened in 2016. I actually don't write reviews generally, but recently a friend told me that it was my duty to share my experience so that others who may need to evict squatters can know to avoid this law office. Also, in Mr. Alper's response to my Google review, he says the whole process took 2 months. The process from the time of first hiring Mr. Alper and giving notice to the squatters to the time they were finally evicted took Four months total, (the first date of the bill was 08.08.16, with the squatters finally evicted by the Marshal on 11.28.16), but regardless of how long the process took, the facts are that Mr. Alper cost us ONE ADDITIONAL MONTH by waiting 3 WEEKS in the first place to go to the Marshal and then waiting a couple days after the final judgment to tell the Marshal to proceed. Evictions in NYC already take several months; you don't need an attorney like Mr. Alper who will add unnecessary time to the eviction process. Do not recommend.
