So then I purchased the Yelp deal online for the $75 airport ride for $67, And then 6 a.m. this morning, I'm sitting by the window, with my suitcase next to me, waiting, watching. Nothing. 6:05. Nothing. 6:10. Nothing. I call the number. No one picks up. I send a text message and I get back the response "Sending a car now." Then I get a phone call from some other guy saying that he's driving from Berkeley and will pick me up in 10 minutes. 6:30 am a car finally shows up. This is an entirely different guy (who actually frightened me a couple of times during the ride with his reckless driving). I made my flight but probably wouldn't have if I had to check in bags. And guess what? I find out only when I get to the airport that 510 Airport Taxi had called ANOTHER taxi service to pick me up. So when I go to pay with the Yelp voucher, the driver refuses to take it because he's not with 510 Airport Taxi. Now I'm just trying to get my Yelp voucher refunded. I had to pay that guy, essentially paying for this awful taxi ride twice and now I'm getting texts from 510 Airport Taxi asking if I want to use the voucher for a ride from airport on my return trip (NO!) and that I have to contact Yelp for the refund. This is not a taxi service with a dispatcher. This is a guy who owns a car and a cell phone. BAD NEWS all around!

Bay Fair BART Station: I took a cab home yesterday at about 1:40 p.m. I was going to be nice and give 4 stars, but the things that could have been better really prompt me to give 3. I looked up the location of the phone number via a number of websites. Some other cities came up too, but Hayward came up the most often. I'm under the impression that this is a new company (I couldn't find any information on it). The minimum fare is $3. Every 1/4 mile (about every 15 seconds really), the fare will go up by $.26. The cab was comfortable and clean, and I'm glad that the cab driver got going pretty quickly. I noticed right away that there was no taxi meter (there may have been one, but it definitely wasn't in plain sight). This was kind of nice (it kept me from thinking too much about what the fare would be), but also kind of unprofessional (I know from experience that I was overcharged a little). I was also surprised (and a bit irked) when the driver waited for a pedestrian right away (it just wasn't necessary). I didn't like how windy the ride was. The back windows were rolled down too much (I left things alone because I don't feel comfortable enough in cabs to be that assertive). I was in the mood to chat (I'm normally as silent as a Charlie Chaplin film), but I regretted bringing up my last cab experience (the driver was limited in English, and he almost made a right when he shouldn't have). I'm not going to state what the driver said, but he came across as racist (it was weird when I thought about it later, as he was talking to a driver who was limited in English when I approached the cab). I think I made him feel comfortable (I kind of blame myself for hearing what I heard). (I quickly changed the subject after indicating that most of my cab experiences have been good.) I was charged $10. I could tell that the driver rounded up. The main thing, though, is that some other cab companies charge less ($.20 or $.25 every 1/4 mile). In the past, I was charged around $8. Anyway, I was hoping to get $11 back, and so I didn't give a tip. I was happy that I got home so quickly, but this mainly had to do with luck (as usual, there was some congestion on Hesperian Boulevard, but we didn't have to stop at many lights). While on the way from downtown Berkeley to the Oakland airport, my driver completely missed the exit for the 880 and took me several miles on the 580 instead. When he realized his mistake, he got off the freeway, turned around, re-entered, and then almost missed the exit again. To compensate for almost missing the exit, he made a last minute lane change over the curbed median onto the off ramp to transfer freeways. Then to top it off, he refused to deduct the entirety of the extra amount off the fare. I used the fare calculator on the website to calculate the estimated cost so he could deduct the excess off (as this was his mistake), but he would only take $5 off. The operator I spoke to when I booked the cab estimated it would be $45, the fare calculator online said $49, he charged me $54. I called the main office to file a complaint and rather than talking to me, they asked me to hand the phone to the driver, and then they hung up after speaking with him. He then turned around and said "they said I'm right." In the grand scheme of things, this is not a huge deal, but when it is tacked on to a dangerous drive, it was enough for me to write this report. I would never recommend this cab company to anyone. There are plenty of other cabs out there. Save yourself some trouble and take one of them.

The first driver, Jas, was very solicitous of my safety before, during and after exiting the cab. I don't know why other customer ratings are negative, but I suspect that they did not follow up on their initial call, nor did they pay attention to where their driver was going. Phone the 234-5555 number to contact this company, because there are too many Express Yellow and Yellow Express companies listed here -- the poor performers may not be the same as this one.
