The office experience was much to be desired. I called my insurance and checked my copay for the YAG procedure I was having. They informed me it was $45. When I arrived I paid the $45 then was told there would be an additional copay of $425. No advanced communication in any form from this facility. Just a confirmation of the appointment. I'm not upset with the charge its the fact it was not communicated prior to the appointment so I could have just had a check made out. Needless to say I called my wife who brought the check book and paid the fee. Delaying my procedure. The Doctors and nurses were friendly, courteous, and professional. The office staff was not overly friendly and one lady was very defensive of their policies directing the blame on me or my insurance company. It would have been simpler and less time wasting if the facility admin would have communicated, in advance, the full amount that I needed to pay. Very frustrating. read more

Sent here for no reason ended up having to pay $230 out of pocket. Waited forever in the PACKED waiting room, moved from waiting room to waiting room like cattle. All results came back saying I have no issues at all. So if the eye doctor at Costco sends you here because he sees some markers and thinks you might have glaucoma, don't believe them. Employees awesome. Not happy with surgeon Coleman talking & laughing with his staff entire time during my procedure. Very rough! Never told me it was going well or that it was even over. It's been 2 weeks and my untouched eye is better than one he removed cataract but yet surgery is on for second eye for next week!! Very scary. Took a freind to have cataract surgery at 11 a.m. they told me I had to wait outside. After waiting in the parking lot at 3:20 I went in and asked what was going on with my freind and they said "he is just going in for surgery" Kind of rethinking as to whether I will have my surgery done here. read more

I had cataract surgery and paid extra for multi-focal lenses. The operations went well, except for one poor anesthesiologistsist at Unity Hospital. I am happy with the multi-focals. After the surgery, I had LASIK in one eye. It improved my vision but I ended up with a "floater" in that eye. They said it should go away in a couple of weeks but if it didn't, their facility in Ft Wayne had a machine that could take care of it. A year later I still have the floater. I took a whole day, got up at O-dark-thirty, went to Ft Wayne and could not get it fixed. After a failed attempt, they still ended up charging my insurance company. read more

I have had issues with my left eye only for over 4 years. I was told the only option I had was surgery. I was scared and put it off until I could not longer drive at night or function without anxiety because I let the cataract get so bad out of fear. I was 43 when I was told it would only get worse and it did! I can not say enough about this place. They were very detailed about what they were finding, what my options were, the cost of those options. The day of the surgery, the entire surgical team including the Dr was kind, and very reassuring. ( I was scared to death!) They even placed a warm blanket over my body while we waited for the meds to kick in. Checking my stress level the entire time with jokes and reassurance. It was painless and much quicker than I imagined. I could not be more happy with the vision that was given back to me after so long. read more

Where do I start??? First of all, I was given a cost per eye and was told there are NO discounts if paid in full, which is VERY RARE in the medical field!! I was not told why the cost was high, IDK if my insurance was in/out of network, no one told me either way. I was not offered any financial assistance options. Besides those ridiculously high amounts, I unexpectedly owed a large unexpected amount over those costs. Another thing, the surgeon did NOT have a good bedside manner at all, which I spoke with the head of nursing about the day of the second surgery. I told my optometrist after the first surgery that I was thinking of changing surgeons for the next one and he suggested I keep this surgeon because he is one of their best. I stayed, but the surgeons bedside manner did not improve for the second surgery. Another thing, I don't remember anyone calling to check up on me after either surgery, which was VERY disappointing! I felt like all they wanted to do was take my money, they didn't care about postop. Their pre-surgery staff was very polite, that cannot be said for the office staff. I'm not sure I will recommend this center. read more

My optometrist diagnosed a cataract in my right eye and sent me to The Cataract and Laser Institute for surgery. My first appointment lasted a few hours and involved a battery of tests. The technician was very knowledgeable and Dr. DeWit explained exactly what the problem was. He also thoroughly explained my surgery options and relative costs involved. I scheduled surgery and all follow-up appointments that very day. I was given written instructions for pre-op, and received a reminder call the day before. On surgery day, all went very smoothly. Dr. Long was my surgeon. Although there were a lot of patients waiting for surgery, this office runs *extremely* efficiently. There was absolutely no pain involved with my surgery, the nurses and technicians were highly attentive and skilled. I felt confident that I was in good hands. A written copy of post-op instructions were provided. I had a follow-up appointment the next day. Subsequent follow-up appointments were scheduled for one week and three weeks following surgery. At each of them, I received a thorough eye exam, including dilation and evaluation of my eye pressure. I was seen by Dr. McGarvey at each of those three appointments. Although I am still nearsighted in both eyes because I did not choose the laser option to completely correct my vision, I can see infinitely more clearly out of my right eye! The surgery really made a difference! I still need glasses to see distance, but I am very happy with my results. I noticed that CLI received only a 3-star rating before this review. I want to assure you that if your optometrist suggests The Cataract and Laser Institute for surgery, you can be confident in their care. read more

Never again! The Doctors yell their directions and then say Do you understand me? I'm wondering why; I wear no hearing aids etc. I wish now I had yelled my response. I rated it "1 star" wish there was a "0" that place doesn't deserve any higher. read more

This place is a joke. I went to the facility in Fort Wayne, IN. First, no one told me the appointment would take three hours. Secondly, I asked specifically about my gas permeable lenses. I was told not to wear them for 24 hours prior, only to find out after all of the testing that my tests were inconclusive because I need to not wear the gp lenses for six weeks prior to testing for a true result, so all of the testing I had just finished was not a good test and would have to be done again. Third, I asked about cost when I walked in because I am self-pay. No one knew the answer. Fourth, when I did get charged $133.00, I had no idea what the charges were for, and I was only given my card tape receipt. Finally, I have sent a formal letter of appeal twice and I have received no response. read more

A few years ago my optometrist told me I was getting cataracts and was referred to C &LI. My eyes are a mess from previous trauma. The folks were friendly, but the place is a bit of an assembly line. They book far too many patients, and you get moved from one dark waiting room to another waiting to peer into yet another mystery machine (while half-blind from having your eyes dilated). One of my implanted lenses developed scar tissue a couple of years later and required laser surgery to restore vision, but I'm told that's common. Aside from being too crowded, the place does a decent job and the outcome was about as good as I could expect. My insurance covered most of the cost, so I can't comment on expense. read more

I took my dad to get his surgery, walked in signed in and their is the Receptionist Crystal. After waiting me and another lady in the waiting area are hearing them say another worker was out with Influenza B. A lady starts coughing that works their, they all gather gloves and wipes and start cleaning. I go up and ask if they are sick why are we not told because she is coughing. She goes over to try and embarrass me in front of people (and she is already a loud talker to everyone) and asks her if she is sick, they lady responds with allergies. Crystal then walks over to me and says its just allergies, you can grab a mask and hand sanitizer. I wanted to tell her exactly what she could do but for the sake of my father I did not! Im not the one that is sneezing and coughing while everyone is looking at them I don't need it, they did! HINT: when you have a lot of people wondering why you have employees cleaning down stuff with disinfectant and coughing and sneezing behind the desk but you tell me to get a mask, you need a new receptionist that can tell people what is going on without tryin to embarrass them over CONCERNS anyone would have with the crap that is now going around!!! Viruses!!! Shame on you Crystal and I think you shouldn't be in customer service lead of the house if you treat people the way you do! By the way my father thought everyone that worked on him was incredible this review is only about the receptionist that pissed me off with her horrible customer service values. read more

I had cataract surgery here a couple of years ago. I was "sold" on the multi-focal lenses and paid extra to have them implanted. I am an avid golfer and was told that these would be "perfect" and would reduce my need for glasses. When my surgery was complete, I had difficulty seeing clearly and had severe halos! I was told that they would dissipate after a year or so. Well, they have not. I cannot see distance very well while golfing and I need reading glasses. I still have severe halos and have difficulty driving at night. This was supposed to be alleviated by the wonderful multi-focal lens. It was actually made worse. Now I am stuck with these for the rest of my life. I complained to the doctor, who is still there and was told that I just happened to be one of the unlucky 1% of clients and that there was nothing he could do. If I had it to do over again, I would not purchase the multi-focal lenses and definitely would not use this facility! read more
