Came across Catering by Scott at a wedding. Food was decent (salmon was over cooked) and the staff (who clearly were hired in for the event) were very pleasant. The guy in charge, William, was an absolute prick (nicest word I could use). From the very moment he arrived at the venue, it was clear he didn't care to be there. During dinner, he told the DJ she had to go get her own silverware from the back kitchen area, and the photographer ate her entire plate with her fingers (assuming she didn't feel comfortable asking for utensils, as it may have been an inconvenience) There were some minor changes throughout the night by the couple, he didn't like that. He reacted as if they were inconveniencing him, although he was doing absolutely no manual labor, only telling everyone else on the team what to do. If you don't like people William, maybe reconsider your job. All it takes is one bad apple to bring the entire company down. read more

Catering by Scott catered our 60th Anniversary party. We wanted a fun experience with our guests and we chose a 50's/60's theme. Scott was so helpful with great ideas!! I was afraid we wouldn't have enough food once I realized we'd chosen a "Retro Cocktail" party. Not only was there plenty of food, a beautiful layout of selections, but it was so delicious!! The two staff (sorry, can't remember their names) members were polite, helpful, and fun! My husband and I can't say enough about Scott and all he represents. 8/17/2011 3:00 pm WOW - I have to say I am now giving major credit and kudos to Scott. I just received a personal phone call to review details of our event and where things went awry. Apparently the employee who worked with us is no longer with the company. So, she got the flack. We do have a vm logged from the proprietor. We'll use this catering again in the future and see how it goes! One excellent element of note for those planning corporate events learned from this phone call: You can provide your own serving and display ware in the event you are hosting a static station that does not require staffing. They will do the displays et all on the plating for you - VERY COOL! I haven't seen this option before in the catering world yet. Stay tuned folks! _____ Had this catering company for a work event - it was a big deal with a leading accounting firm, the leading area bank, and a bunch of attorneys. We tried to place an order about 10 days in advance for 60 people which should be no big deal in the catering world. We asked for suggestions, because we really wanted to use Scott's but cocktail meatballs weren't going to cut it for this crowd and were looking into lighter and more elegant summer fare and needed suggestions for what would compliment our theme. We were told we'd receive a call back by Monday... no surprise, no call. We called back and the lady we spoke to was the same one we'd spoken with to do the initial booking. She had no recollection of the conversation - which means no order was in the books or as a place holder. We settled for something as general selections. It arrived on time and in hotboxes. We ordered plus more: Whole Baked Brie (serves15-20 guests) $40.00 Wrapped in Phyllo baked with caramelized apple slices in a beautiful floral display. Served at room temperature with crackers. HOUSE SPECIALTY! Crab Cakes $1.75 Appetizer size served with crab Louie sauce. Cheese plate - plain 'ol cheese - nothing special. Review: One orchid blossom on top of a wheel of brie does not constitute a floral display, nor one we could create on our own when we set the food display. No one touched this in a party of 60 people (I liked the flavor though). Cheese plate - ok. Crab cakes - about silver dollar sized, got good feedback on the louie sauce Meatballs - typical stuff, but that's what we were expecting. **HERE'S the BEST PART** - I commented on an interactive forum for a venue space that uses this caterer - hence wanting to try them out in advance for a smaller sized event before committing to a 200-300 person event. In mentioning we had a not so great experience at work, and asking what were others' experiences were like, what kind of budget did they work with and who else had they compared with--- my comment/question was deleted, and I was kicked off the forum. BAD social media mojo. It would have been great if the person had reached out to find out what our experience was like, either by response post, or in taking mine down but then reaching out personally via private message. Keep in mind, there was absolutely no flaming - just the questions as listed above. To be fair, the reviews posted on the business website are all positive. They could win me back as I LOVE the venue -- they just need to build professional faith in me by reaching out. read more

This company catered a large event held at my church for the Tim Tebow Foundation, providing food for about 200 adults. They brought in 2 pasta options (red sauce and Alfredo), meatballs, chicken, green beans, salad and rolls. It was a buffet style set up, with two serving stations, each holding the above mentioned food. The presentation was very professional and looked great. But the food...oh my. It was ALL delicious. We received many inquiries over who provided the meal. I can honestly say the meatballs (about the size of peaches) were the best I've ever had. The pasta was the perfect texture and did not dry out. Personally, I love Alfredo but we received positive comments about both. The beans were fresh as was the salad. If you are looking for someone to provide food for an event, I wouldn't hesitate to use this one. And ask for William to work it! You'll be glad you did! He'll handle everything with his friendly, professional personality. read more

If I could give him 0 star I would! I would NEVER recommend Catering by Scott to anyone and have strayed multiple brides away from choosing him! Scott is extremely unprofessional, and he's a great salesman and makes a lot of promises that he doesn't follow through on. His staff arrived to our wedding over an hour late and Scott never even came when he said he would be there! The food the day of the wedding tasted nothing like the food at our taste testing (my cousin got married a few weeks before us and also used catering by Scott and they had the exact same issue). After making promises that he ended up not following through on, I called him out on that and instead of trying to make things right he threatened to cancel on me 1 week before my wedding and proceeded to hang up on me during a phone conversation! He is extremely hard to get ahold of and many times just doesn't respond to a correspondence entirely. I had to call his restaurant and ask his staff to put me in contact with him any time I did actually get to talk to him. The only negative experience of my entire wedding was Scott and his company! For any bride who wants a stress free wedding, AVOID THIS CATERER AT ALL COSTS!! read more

I hate to leave negative reviews, and usually try to resolve all issues directly with the vendor. Unfortunately, in our case, despite numerous phone calls and emails, Scott never bothered to communicate with us. We communicated our menu choices to Scott and were highly disappointed to find that on the day of our event, the wrong food was brought. Despite email and verbal confirmations, we received food that we did not order. His wait and serving staff were nice enough, but the food was huge disappointment. I tried to contact him multiple times to ask how this could have happened and Scott never responded to email, or returned a phone call. It's been 6 weeks since our event, and I have feel that I have no choice but to leave this review. If you want a caterer that will supply the food you asked for, this is not the caterer for you. I understand that mistakes happen, but to completely ignore the customer's attempts to provide feedback is unprofessional. read more

I've used Catering by Scott for dozens of events for our non-profit and he never disappoints! The food is always amazing and incredibly diverse. From BBQ to Italian dinners to boxed lunches to formal dinners, Scott has done it all for us. We're partial to the chocolate covered strawberries, but his food is always fresh, delicious and well planned. He puts so much thought into what he prepares for each event and his thoroughness is evident in all that he does. Scott and his team could not be more professional, polite or easy to work with. They are always outgoing and incredibly friendly. You can tell they care about their work and reputation and put customer service first, every time. I've never worked with another vendor who is easier to get along with than Scott. (Or more genuinely enjoys his work!) He truly wants us to be happy and makes himself very available around our events for last-minute requests. He's checked in with me after events as well - he's absolutely one of the nicest people I've ever worked with. read more

Unnecessary stress added to an already stressful event as some agreed upon menus items were substituted and omitted without notice. Received a bowl of pasta salad that we didn't request because nobody eats it, so it got thrown away. Requested nacho cheese dip because someone had a tomato allergy and received a big bowl of salsa, so that was disappointing. Also the garnishes were awkward (grapes on top of nacho chips made them stale, lemon slices on top of onion slices made them inedible). Cheese slices weren't separated with waxed paper and all stuck together. Burgers and fried chicken were soggy and pasta was dry (2 trays of macaroni with a sprinkle of shredded cheese sadly turned into semisolid blocks of tasteless noodles and had to be thrown away). Deserts were excellent with excellent presentation. I'd give 5 stars for the fruit and cookies, but overall, only giving this catering company 2 for this event. read more

First the good: months later, our wedding guests are still raving about the food. The food is GREAT. Scott was very accommodating in planning our menu and helpful in answering all of our questions. I can't give five stars because he was also supposed to be our day-of coordinator - helping essentially with "run of show" for the entire evening, and he completely disappeared after our ceremony. No one knew when or how anything was supposed to happen - speeches, cake cutting, first dance. While I'm sure few guests noticed, it was very stressful for me as the bride and put unnecessary pressure on our families and DJ to figure it all out. read more

I contacted Scott about providing individual meals (cooked and ready to rewarm) for a Zoom graduation in the time of COVID. He did such a nice job. We had chicken marsala, mashed potatoes and green beans with sundried tomatoes. Every bite was delicious and appropriate for a party. I had asked for cupcakes but he called and said he just didn't think they'd travel well and could he do brownies instead. First of all, the brownies were AMAZING. Secondly I appreciated the care he showed to say I understand what you want, but I want you to have the best experience possible for your grads. The only regret I have from my wedding was hiring Scott for my wedding. He charmed my family and I with his big personality and even bigger promises. Scott told me that it was my day and that I could trust him to take care of everything. As time went on, I began to see what a huge mistake I made. His communication was horrific. He was impossible to get a hold of and did not answer emails. Initially he told me that he only booked 2 events in one day. We later found that on the day of my wedding he had 5 other events. The day before the wedding the linens were not set up when I had asked so that I could set up my tables. My mother called Scott to follow up on this and he hung up on her. The day of my wedding, I was starving and could not wait to eat. I was unable to cut into my chicken because it was harder than a brick. None of the food was anything like what we had tasted. My guests complained to me that some of the chicken was not cooked and raw in the center. The food was absolutely horrible. His staff was supposed to set up the dessert table immediately after the cake cutting. It did not get set up until my mom found someone and told them to which was only 1 hour before the wedding ended. We were told leftovers would be packed up for us at the end of the wedding. We had at least 10 guests not show up and there was no extra food. His staff packed up our wedding cake using boxes from doughnuts that I provide which completely smashed the cake. I cannot began to express my frustration, disappointment and anger that I feel towards Scott. We attempted to reach out to him after the wedding to have some resolution but he never responded. Scott was the worst part of my wedding. If my other vendors weren't so incredible he would have completely ruined my wedding day. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN! read more

I recently attended a wedding where Catering by Scott's was the caterer. The food was really good but everything else was terrible. They arrived later than anticipated and didn't have everything set up when it was time for cocktail hour. The worker who was outside where the alcohol was, couldn't keep the beer cold. The bride had to return several beers through out the night since they were warm. I asked if they needed ice to keep it cold and was told no, they had ice. There was also an issue where a worker was seen stealing alcohol from the bridal party. I would not recommend them for catering an event. Unfortunately, we are very disappointed with Scott from Catering by Scott. For whatever reason(s), Scott did not respond to numerous e-mails sent directly to his e-mail address from his website (Scott told me in a phone call to send him an e-mail and he would respond). He gave my wife and me verbal commitments at different times, yet he did not follow through with them at all. In business, we call this very unprofessional and a giant red flag. I have decided to forget his commitment and move on while chalking this up to a very expensive lesson learned. I feel obligated to write a review to make sure people don't get caught up in the excitement of their wedding planning only to be disappointed during the process. I suggest that any contract for catering services be reviewed by a lawyer, as well as contain any and ALL things that are important for your special occasion to be a positive experience. This might be a hassle, but it will make your big day come together the way YOU want it to happen. It is worth the time and effort. Don't let your excitement for your special occasion blind you from documenting everything. From my experience, verbal commitments are hard to collect. I was hosting an outdoor wedding reception for my daughter in May and didn't want to do it without a caterer. I loved the selection of foods Scott had to offer and he was very helpful in suggesting the kinds of foods that work work best outdoors, keeping in mind what I could keep cold or hot over a long period of time. I have been to Scotts I don't know how many times and things have always been great. The food, the service, the people are always top notch. Last Friday I got to see how they handled a mistake and, again,they took it to another level. We were taking a group out, one in a wheel chair, and we made a reservation at Scotts.(For some reason I have always called it Scottys.) When we arrived we found our table had been given to another group with a wheelchair. The staff could not apologized enough and while they were talking to us the staff inside were moving people around and made room for us. If you've ever been there at lunch you know that is no small feat, but they quickly had us seated and it worked out all the way around. Once again they preformed above and beyond expectations. I can not say enough good about the whole team there. For lunch, or for catering, or breakfast Catering by Scott is a good bet. read more

I have used Catering by Scott for both of my daughter's First Communion parties - yes, he is so reasonable that he makes more sense than trying to cook for 20 to 30 people! His food is excellent. He is so easy to work with. He dropped the food on time and in perfect condition. I have many vegetarians and health conscious relatives and they ate every bite. Very healthy and beautiful looking food and everything tastes amazing. The kids LOVED the fruit skewers. I ordered extra for the second party. Scott is responsive, has wonderful insights and doesn't try to push extra food. He really listens to your wishes and accommodates your needs. I will use Scott again and again! read more

Where should I begin???? I have a small non-profit here in Central Ohio and I have used Catering by Scott for all my events for the past 10 years. These have ranged from small affairs to large Gala's. Each and every event has been a HUGE hit and mainly due to Scott Bast and his ability to help my team put all the finishing touches on every detail!! The food is always superb and is displayed in a gorgeous fashion! His staff and team members are kind, courteous and extremely hard working. Scott himself is such an asset to any event. He is friendly, kind, generous and goes way above and beyond in helping to make sure you are satisfied and happy with everything! The good: The guests liked the food for the most part. The staff sent to serve at the event were professional and nice. The bad: This caterer is not for people who have an idea of what they would like for their event. If you are looking for someone to create their vision of your event then Scott is your caterer. If you expect to have an exchange of ideas and confidence you're paying for your choices and preferences, then you should find another caterer. Unfortunately, the venue we chose uses this caterer as their exclusive caterer so the warning signs along the way only added to the stress as I could not take my business and money elsewhere. I asked for a plated dinner, but was talked into a buffet. I wanted the baked chicken dish, but was told to do chicken marsala. I told the venue where I wanted the bar to be placed, but day of it was stationed somewhere else per Scott's request. I could go on and on. I was told by Scott they would be there 2pm on day of the wedding and they did not arrive until 3:45pm. This caused a disruption to the pre-wedding events. I could not decorate the venue because the linens were with them. My wedding guests were arriving at 5pm, so I was left with about 40 minutes to get ready for my wedding once the staff did arrive and we were able to put out the centerpieces and other table decorations. I asked them what time they were told to be there and was told 3pm. I never bothered to say anything to Scott about this after the fact because he won't respond as evidenced by my six email requests over the course of several months for the alcohol list went unanswered. He simply stopped replying to anything once final payment was made. He was disorganized and never seemed to know what was going on or who I was when I would try to track him down to discuss next steps. Seriously avoid this caterer at all costs. read more

Brides stay away from Catering by Scott. We first met Scott at a bridal event in Columbus, Ohio. We were initially very impressed. Unfortunately, we became more and more concerned after multiple emails were sent to help finalize our wedding day. Emails and phone calls went unanswered. We had to beg him to do a walkthrough at the Bryn Du Mansion. He told us he could only give us 15 minutes. We discussed many things during the walkthrough, none of which translated during the day of the event. The bartender mixed TWO cocktails into one drink, despite there being a menu with the ingredients (it was printed and framed!). They mixed together strawberry vodka, tequila, pink moscato, margarita mix and lemonade into one drink! Really? It was supposed to be a strawberry lemonade (strawberry vodka, pink moscto and lemonade) and a margarita (tequila and margarita mix). Then one of the staff members stole a alcohol off the head table and one of my bridesmaids caught it. For the food, some of the food was ok, but the green beans were ice cold (disgusting). We had 110 guest at our event and our contract was for 120, but we had no leftover food. This food should have been given to us, as we paid for it. During the reception, Scott's staff told one of our guest they couldn't have any food because they already loaded onto the truck. How incredibly rude. They nearly 1 hour late to our event, which means we paid for services for an hour. They did not set up any tables (this was in the contract) and none of the cocktail tables were set up for cocktail hour, our groomsmen had to move them after the wedding ceremony. The cocktail hour was supposed to be on the front lawn and the staff set it up inside the house. Basically, none of the instructions I gave to Scott via email and during our walkthrough actually happened. This company is terrible and I would absolutely never recommend any Bride hiring them. Catering by Scott is a huge disappointment!! Do not use them! read more

Scott totally bungled our wedding. Our wedding took place the Sunday after the major storm that hit Columbus on June 29th and everyone came together to make the day happen despite the loss of power except for Scott. I will NEVER use Scott's service or recommend him again. He hung up on me when I called him to get a straight story from him and he screamed at me that he was the only person who went "above and beyond" that weekend. His servers literally just up and left before dinner was even served and they threatened to strip the linens right out from under our guests before they had even finished eating dinner. At least one table was never even served dinner and a guest of ours who is a type 1 diabetic had to leave our wedding because he had to go get something to eat. We had no wedding cake except for the small 8" round that an employee of the facility ran out to get us because she felt so badly that Scott had flaked on absolutely everything. We had no appetizers, either. He promised to stock the bar with enough alcohol and we ran out in less than an hour, and with no appetizers to eat many of our guests were drunk before the night had even gotten started. He was so nice in the months leading up to the wedding and then when push came to shove and he actually had to work hard he just threw in the towel and that is not professional in my opinion. He literally did not even show up to our wedding. But he claims this is above and beyond service. We paid him thousands of dollars to cater our wedding and to not even make contact with the bride and groom who paid him the weekend of is just bad business. In 2013 I began working in the administrative office of a local synagogue. During this time my husband and I were in the process of suing Scott in small claims court to recover a good portion of the money we paid him to screw up our wedding. Scott had done business at this particular synagogue, being one of the only kosher caterers in Columbus. After many months of trying to recover money that he had not paid the synagogue in catering fees, my boss actually had a letter hand delivered to him stating that he was no longer welcome to do business there until he paid up. Scott, being a total sleaze, had his attorney call up my boss and tell him that Scott was actually mailing the checks all along and I must have been throwing them in the trash before anyone ever saw them. There's two problems with that: 1) I did not collect and/or sort the mail as part of my job, and 2) he had owed them money since long before I started working there. But this just goes to show you the kind of guy Scott is. He is truly the definition of a shady businessman. Ultimately we settled with him through a mediator so we would never have to deal with him again. But he continued to act like scum even in front of the mediator. He brought a phone log of calls with him to try to prove that we had in fact spoken over the weekend (which we never did), and he circled the number of the original venue and said that it was me calling him. The problem with that is that on the date and time of that call, I was in New Albany at a pre-wedding event, not at the original venue. He also circled numbers claiming that they were my father calling him. Even if that was my father calling (which it wasn't. My dad lives in California and has a California phone number. That number was Columbus.), he was not in contract with my father. He was in contract with me. There was a hole in every aspect of his story. The original venue said they called Scott the day of the storm to come and get his food out of their fridge before it all went bad since they had lost power. Scott refused. And I have a letter from the venue's insurance company stating this. He lies every chance he gets and he tries to make everyone else out to be an idiot. I have no doubt that many people have had positive experiences with Scott. His food is very good and he is a smooth talker. But when things go even slightly off track, Scott is the worst. I cannot stress enough how much time, money, and aggravation you'll save yourself if you just go with someone else. read more

Catering by Scott catered our wedding last year. I'll say first, their service and food was very good. We very much enjoyed the food they served, especially the stuffed mushrooms. Their staff also was very professional at our event, and their service was great. They not only set up our dining area for us but cleaned up for us after our event! Our reception went very smoothly, in great part thanks to them. Scott says that he tries to treat every bride like his own daughter, and in terms of their product, we definitely were satisfied with what we got. Because of their business practices, though, I really can't recommend them. Scott was extremely personable and accommodating when we had our first meeting. We told him our budget and some of our preferences, and he was very quick to work with us. When we had our meeting to finalize details before the event, though, a lot of things changed and a lot of hidden costs showed up in our bill. Scott had accidentally (ahem) left the cost of a food item off our initial bill, and the most expensive item at that! Then he informed us that all venues charge a catering fee to their vendors - a portion of the food totals for the event being catered. This fee is strictly between the caterer and the venue, but Scott put some cryptic language in the bill that we were supposed to pick it up, then didn't tell us about the fee until we met to finalize the details. We ended up having to write a check to the venue for a couple hundred bucks - not what you want, two weeks before your wedding when you're already dealing with so much else! Regarding that fee - weeks after our wedding, we got a call from the event coordinator at our reception venue, who said she was returning our check to Scott. Like I said, the fee we paid to the venue was strictly a matter between them and Scott, and it would have been a major issue, if they got audited, for us to have written the check. She said she had explained this to Scott already in the past, but he was still telling his customers the same thing! To top it off, we had recently switched our bank accounts now that we were married and closed the account the check was written off of - of course, we didn't anticipate all this drama with the check. When Scott called us to take care of it, his business person told us that the check had come back to them because the account was closed. So, did they themselves try to cash the check that we wrote to the venue? Where and how? And did they assume the venue would simply return the check to them and not contact us about the issue? Somewhere in here, I have the feeling that something ILLEGAL was taking place. All in all, then, I would definitely not feel comfortable doing business with Scott again, in any capacity. His product, as I said, was very good, and he's very personable. He's quite a salesman for his business, and he made us feel very good about the quality of services we would receive and how our event would flow. Scott the businessman, though, is not the same person as Scott the caterer, and the businessman definitely did not treat this bride like his own daughter. If you want professional service, then based on our experience, at least, you can trust them. Just be very prepared to take what Scott says loosely, and go over your agreements in extreme detail. Otherwise, you may not end up getting what you think you're going to get. read more

when we met with Scott for our wedding we told Scott the most important thing for our wedding was the food. Scott is the best caterer in Columbus! We recently had a wedding and used him and the food was delicious. Our guests commented that the food was the best wedding food that they had ever eaten.
