First off, let me say we've eaten here many times. Face it, there aren't that many options (other than fast food) in Livingston. It's even harder to find a place that has anything resembling "salad." We've always enjoyed the salad bar and love the idea that they have pinto beans (and sometimes some really good southern green beans). The catfish is fried in cornmeal (as it should be - imo). I've had the chicken tenders and also the fried chicken breast with gravy which I enjoy.... We were there this past Saturday (2/24), and had a totally different experience. There were not that many people there at the time. After being seated, we waited for the waitress for around 15 minutes.... NOTHING!! At another table, they flagged down their waitress and asked her to check on their order. She came back and said they were waiting on fish... not a good sign!! So, we got up and left. We've never had an experience like that before and will probably go back hoping we don't have the same experience again... read more

I had the regular catch on Jan 9 2012. I live in Livingston and have ate there several times although my wife wonders why I do as she hates the place. The first few times it was tolerable but my meal last night was the worst i have ever had. Hard crusted catfish, mushy hushpuppies,pinto beans that were not done. I do not know why this place is packed so often because the food and service is terrible. If you dont believe me try it yourself. Wife and I dined about 2:30pm Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012. The service was friendly and efficient. The Salad Bar was excellent..........Beans & Tater Salad were the best ever.......,'Blue Ribbon"! However, while the shrimp were delicious, the catfish & oysters were way over fried.........very hard & dry. Also, the fried stuff is very bland, as in no seasoning...... maybe, had we opted for the Cajun platter ($1.00 per order extra), it would have been different. I would strongly suggest bringing your own seasoning. It would definitely enhance everything to the max. Also, the hushpuppies were pretty good and the fries were actually really great. Probably will go back as this experience could have been a shift change situation........still it shouldn't happen. read more

my brother,daughter and I had lunch there yesterday 2/5/14 . My brother ordered Cajun seafood platter and he says the catfish was bland but well cooked ,the Cajun fries were decent ,the shrimp were great as well as the hush puppies but for a place named "catfish king" the catfish is very bland and disappointing . My daughter who is 4 wanted the fries and shrimp kids meal with gravy and toast ? and she LOVES fries but didn't touch them so i tasted them to see why and they were greasy, cold ,flavorless and chewy yuck and i had to ask to get all of her food but her shrimp was awesome ,I ordered the shrimp scampi which is grilled shrimp on plain rice apparently , with a baked potato and the bacon bits are soy intimation "not that the menu said that" the shrimp like the rice had little flavor , all in all the staff if nice the plates come out slow and the food needs salt and seasoning the shrimp is nummy and the sweet tea is great read more
