I have visited most major battlegrounds, forts, courthouses and buildings from these two eras. I don't really consider myself a history buff, yet I have visited several historical places. This park is certainly the most beautiful monument dedicated to war. It is also in a very beautiful setting. Abraham Lincoln donated these lands to preserve the history of the wars, and that was a great decision. Vicksburg is not really an easy access commute from anywhere, visiting here requires effort, and this park is well worth it.

The park sits in a relatively quiet and peaceful part of Clinton, and is conveniently on the way to historic old town and the community nature center. It also sits along the Natchez Trace Parkway so easy convenience getting on or off the Trace near the park. Features far more open space and area to roam around in than many parks I've seen in Clinton.

The guy was very sweet and said he forgot to flip the "Closed" sign. Ticket prices are reasonable. The forest isn't huge but it is nice and peaceful to walk through. When you purchase a ticket you get a walking guide. There are numbers through the forest that you can stop and read the guide. There is a small gift shop and a fun museum to walk through as you come back in from the forest. I also love that they are pet friendly.

I believe the sole purpose of parks like this is to improve a child's socialization skills. As you can see from the pictures, the equipment wasn't your regular sliding board, seesaw, or swing set. The colors and the shapes of these items are to capture the child's eyes and lead to interaction. I don't know if I got any pictures, but musical instruments were place in the play area for the free spirit child. Also, there is a child museum on the grounds, which we didn't get a chance to visit, but the children had fun, and that was the goal.

It does have wildlife, great scenery, smooth roads and plenty of historic little pull offs. Lots of history, even at only 50mph it was enjoyable and pretty. Also can be somewhat monotonous and boring to do all at once.
