This place is incredible. A must stop for anyone who loves cheese as much as I do. So many cheese options to choose from, all different types and flavors. They had taste testings setup throughout the store. We probably tried 20 different types of cheese samples before we left. They all were so good. They also had a little museum type section when you first walked in, you could take pictures or read about the history of the place. I will say if you are claustrophobic this is not the place for you. It was crazy packed when we went and people are lined up throughout the store to try the different types of cheese. We didn't mind though and had a blast

Catharina Hoeve Cheese Farm is a must while in Zaanse Schans! It's great there's a free demonstration of how the cheese is made, including a huge store with a lot of Dutch delicacies to take home. Although we just missed the cheese demonstration, there is a back room where you can see all the cheese-making instruments and see it churning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They explained their different cheeses, and confirmed that all of the cheeses are sealed, so you can take it with you on the airplane. The selection of Henri Willig cheeses was impressive. Henri Willig is a name-brand cheese that they sell here and for whatever flavor your heart desires, there will be a cheese for it! I even found a coconut flavored cheese for my boyfriend to take back as a gift, which he loved since he loves coconut! But really, they have everything, from sheep's gouda to pesto cheese, to luxurious truffle cheese. In addition to cheeses, there were specific cheese-cutting devices, Dutch chocolates, stroopwafels, souvenirs like magnets and wooden tulips, etc... Plus, there were samples of most everything they sell here, so you can really make your way through the entire store, tasting all of the goodies. It makes choosing a cheese and other food items all the more difficult, since the selection is so vast. I'm glad my friends and I stopped here while we were in Zaanse Schans. I definitely recommend paying Catharina Hoeve Cheese Farm a visit if in the area, as you will leave with a tote bag, filled with the best kind of Dutch gifts.

We visited the Cheese Shop while we were touring Zaanse Schans. We arrived in time for the cheese making demonstration. It lasted about 5 minutes and was more a discussion with props - but still informative. We proceeded into the shop and samples cheeses and those thin syrup waffles. Both oh-so-good!

A MUST see!!! They have so so many samples of all their products, its worth it just to go for the samples! The prices are relatively affordable and all their cashiers are dressed up old style Dutch...classic!

Cheese store located in Zans Chans. Offers cheese demonstrations and sampling of their many different flavors of dutch cheese. It is overwhelming just how many types of cheeses they have. My favorite was a spicy green cheese. All the cheese can be bought vacuum sealed so you can take it home with you on the airplane.

Explore everything here! We came to Dutch Delicacy on pure accident, as we were walking around and saw that they had a ton of different goudas for sale. In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. We were able to try so many different cheeses, which I found a few for home. I recommend for anyone visiting Amsterdam to make a stop here; there's a lot of items you'll want to take home with you.

Yes, and very much as a…read moretouristy item for your agenda, but the reality is, it's something that you just don't want to miss. If you're going to spend day, this is the place to do it at ! Zaans Gedaan is spread out over numerous acres and overlooks the water. It truly is breathtaking, and as an American, it was nice to have that experience in what feels like it's a little bit country, and it's a little bit rock 'n' roll roll... There are numerous shops throughout the area, all clustered together like a small little town. Each one specializing in something different than the previous one. There's ice cream shop, a hot chocolate shop, a cheese shop and so much more. I will say one of the things that I love about Europe is that the quality of food is amazing. I love that. They use far less sugar in their sweet items. As a girl with a huge sweet tooth, it's a big deal. We both loved the hot chocolate shop. There's an entire process for making it where you do it yourself and it's rather cool. The hot chocolate shop also sells ice cream so you really can't go wrong. You jump in line for your hot chocolate and there's one size cup And different containers telling you exactly how much of each ingredient to put in your cup. It's essentially a hot cocoa mix and some other fun things and then by the time you get to the end, they will add the hot milk and voilà, you have hot chocolate. it wasn't sweet enough for me, but it definitely was flavorful. The shop also has an entire line of flavored peanut butter. And if you ask, they absolutely will share samples of each of the flavors. The honey peanut butter was divine. Yes, you know that I bought peanut butter. I can't wait to bring it home and share it. I found that the people in the shops were all super sweet, and the tourist that ended up chatting with me, it felt like family. We made friends along the way, and we hope to spend time with them in the future. And if you're wondering... Yes, I also purchased the obligatory clogs because why not?!

Our tour started with a cheese making demo. Our guides were two brothers. I can't recall their names, but they were both funny and nice. They gave us background on cheese making and showed us the various steps in the process. After the cheese demo, we got to see how they carve wooden clogs by hand. The guide explained the benefit of wearing clogs (keeps the muscles in your back, legs, and booty firm lol). He was running around in the clogs and was very lively. After the clog carving demonstration, we were allowed to walk through the buildings as well as explore the gift shop. The gift shop had a ton of cheese samples. We were also able to sample some red wine. I sampled a few flavors of Gouda cheese and they were all quite tasty! I went home with a 12 month aged Gouda. I still have some of it and it is soooo good! Honestly, the notorious Amsterdam staircases are what prevented that from taking place lol. Old Amsterdam makes some of the finest cheeses in the world today. They've been around a long time and are still extremely relevant in the dairy world. So much flavor and goodness in everything they produce. The store isn't large but they have a lot to offer. It's easy to move about inside. Employees are friendly. The samples flow freely.

Well enough to spend an additional 15min having our cheese swabbed in airport security. Yes, I took back an entire tote bag filled with a variety of cheeses (13 kinds) & yes, I took it as carry-on luggage. Yes, you CAN do that, though you may want to allow extra time for additional screening, as a bag full of cheese looks suspicious on the scanner. (Let them know ahead of time, so they flag it as odd contents and things go more smoothly) Tasting cheeses are readily available and you can taste literally EVERYTHING before you buy. Why then, with a bag filled with cheese do I give them 4 stars? Because it truly caters to tourists which resulted in higher pricing. Still, you buy KNOWING it can all fly back with you. For this particular shop, I highly recommend the vintage edition- the oldest cheese they sell- I bought 3 of them and already regret not getting more. While the brand is available stateside, that particular vintage is not.
