So I have dubbed Cathleen, "the patron saint of singing in the shower". I don't think there could ever be a better singing instructor. Anywhere. Ever. Cathleen isn't one of those boring DO-RAY-MI... types. There were no rulers to knuckles and I didn't spend a lot of time singing lame crap that put me to sleep. No theory, just "git'r dun" fun! (I love saying that. "git'r dun". It's more fun when you extend that last "uuuuhhhhhnnn" part!) Cathleen's approach to teaching depends on you (the student). If you need Gregorian chants, well, that is why she gets paid the big bucks (not really though, she has EXTREMELY reasonable prices)... If you are a hyper and obnoxious dork who loves everything from Queen to Coheed and Cambria (and of course, a little Barry Manilow and MSI), you may end up singing while you juggle on one foot or skipping while you sing! Hey, what ever works, right!? What it all boils down to is that Cathleen has a gift. She can identify what it takes to help her student learn. She didn't try to squeeze me into some whacked out format that I would get bored with quick. Cathleen helped me identify that REALLY singing is a very intimate experience and she gradually helped me feel comfortable in my skin when I sing. I can honestly say that, for a good majority of the two years working with her, Monday night singing lessons were the best thing I had to look forward to. Cathleen truly has a heart of gold. She rocks! She is an awesome friend and I will definitely miss her. Seattle will be losing one of its best teachers. So it sucks to be slow because Cathleen is moving to Sante Fe but if you get a chance to go on a road trip down south, I STRONGLY suggest that you look her up.
