We were searching for a new cat sitter after our second experience with a Rover pet sitter suddenly not showing up to check on our cats. We are SO fortunate to have found Richard from Catify My Home. It's not that often you hit the jackpot from a Google search, but we did with this one! Our cats Canvas and Ophelia love their uncle Richie! There isn't enough time to write how vastly different, and better, Richard is from your typical app cat sitter. Any previous cat sitter would stop in, scoop the litter box, refill the food, add water, hang out for 10 minutes and then leave. With Richard our cats get so much play hunting time and lots of affection. His drop ins are 90 minutes and this includes ensuring the dry food is full, cleaning the litter box, refilling the water bowls (which he also cleans), and vacuuming around the cat area. It doesn't just end there, he also brings our trash to the curb if he's cat sitting on a trash day, brings in our mail or any packages, vacuums the areas where he's playing with the cats, and I'm sure there's more I'm missing! We used to come back from time away and dread getting home because of the cat duties...cleaning up the scattered litter/food on the floor, washing water bowls, emptying the litter genie, etc. with Richard, all of that is done for us! We simply come back home to the happiest cats. He will send A TON of photos and videos to show updates. He truly loves cats and understands their behavior. He was even able to get our younger cat (who is skittish and typically hides from strangers) to start coming out and playing with him. Also...he is extremely reliable and doesn't treat cat sitting like a side hobby. Previous sitters wouldn't always send updates and a lot of time we would have to check in with them to see if they were still stopping by to check in. Look no further for THE BEST cat sitter on the island. I cannot recommend Richard enough for his cat sitting services! He goes above and beyond to make sure you and your cat(s) are comfortable for the time you are away. My boyfriend and I were planning a trip off island in August. Things happened and it has to be pushed back several times. Richard was very accommodating and understanding. When we finally set the dates, We had no clue what to do about our new rescued kitten. Initially, I thought we could ask a friend that lives nearby to help watch, feed, and clean him but I realized that it'd be way too much work for her as our kitten needed extra attention. And then I thought, maybe he can go to cat boarding but then I did some research and I was not comfortable with the fact he will be away from home (somewhere he is comfortable at). Then I found Richard! He is very responsive and it was very easy for us to set up a meeting for him to meet Hapa. Prior to cat sitting, he sets up two meetings. The first to get to know your cat... eating habits, special diets, etc and the second to bring the cat amusement park over!! After the first meeting, I knew we made a good choice. Not only can we keep our kitten in his own environment, but Richard was so knowledgeable and extremely helpful in helping us with issues we had with Hapa. You could immediately tell he was passionate about what he does. Super plus!!! We ended up adopting another kitten and it was no big deal for Richard. He easily set up a second meeting to meet Mauna. The second meeting consist of him meeting the new addition and he also showed us a typical day of cat sitting. He played with them, cleaned their litter box, gave them love, and observe their behaviors. Richard brought over all his best cat toys, from tunnels to flying butteries, the kittens loved it. When it was time for him to take over, and we were on vacation, he would text me every time he arrived at our apartment and I would receive a ton of pictures when he departs. He takes his time playing with them, petting them, giving them attention. Of course I missed my two fur babies but I knew they were in good hands. On day of our return, Richard cleaned up all the toys he brought over, vacuumed the cat litter and made sure everything was in order. He does this to make sure he has a thorough and accurate understanding of all of you and your cat's needs, and to allow both you (and more importantly) your cat to become acquainted with one another. On the second meet and greet, Richard brings all of his toys and "tools" and essentially allows you to observe what an actual day of his care will look like. Richard will send photos and videos of your cat while you are away - at no extra charge. You can tell Richard understands what it's like to be apart from your cat/pet and he does an amazing job of giving you peace of mind by sharing these updates and photos. He also keeps a daily log of how your cat is doing when he visits, what they did, how the cat is eating, etc. - another example of Richard's professionalism and care for his work. Anyone considering boarding their kitties should consider Richards cat sitting service first! It will be more comfortable to your cat to stay in their home than to go to a new stressful environment. My husband and I had Richard take care of our 5 year old special needs cat Tuna for 2 weeks. Every day we received photos detailing Richards entire visit and a short summary of how Tuna was doing. Richard would come in, clean the litter box, clean the food bowl, play with tuna, pet tuna, and record tunas well-being all while sending pictures! Whoa! Believe all the positive reviews, Richard is the real deal. This is not a part-time gig for him, but a full blown commitment to caring for cats. He has taken trainings and became certified by Pet Sitters International (who knew!?), so he is very informed in cat behavior and is such a professional. I learned a lot about why my cats were doing certain things from Richard's first visit. He is so clear in his communication and also non-judgmental (I was doing a few things wrong, but he just offered suggestions). We were on vacation for two weeks and one of my cats had an accident on the carpet. Richard told us up front the moment he found the mess. He analyzed what it was to make sure the cat wasn't in danger of illness and cleaned it up. We just returned from a weeklong trip to Tokyo, Japan. As usual, my main concern was where to board my two house cats. By chance I read an advertisement in Midweek Magazine for Catify My Home, a house sitting service specializing in cats. Richard came to our house every day and spent over an hour each day feeding my cats, taking care of the litter boxes, and most importantly, playing with and interacting with them! In the past, we've taken the cats to the veterinarian for boarding where we spent a lot more money for our cats to be housed in cages amongst other cats. Unlike previous trips where we have used family and friends, we opted to go with a professional cat sitter on a recent two-week trip. Richard is absolutely magical. Between recently becoming a two-cat household and our older cat growing more anxious by the year, we decided to try a cat-sitter instead of transporting the cats to a hotel. I was sold on Richard from the first visit--his breadth of knowledge is coupled with an obvious care for his charges--but I was most impressed by his ability to quickly charm our more standoffish cat. On the first pre-sitting visit, he brought an exhaustive questionnaire and took detailed notes to ensure he knew just what to expect from each of our boys. On the second, he came with toys, environmental stimulation, and even a couple microchip feeders to ensure that our older slow grazer wouldn't have his food stolen by his little brother, the food thief. I highly recommend Richard Barber and Catify. After an initial meeting with Richard, you could tell that he loves what he does and really cares about cats. Richard is a professional and very knowledgeable about kitties. He also is respectful and presents with work integrity, two attributes that are difficult to find these days. Richard recently cat sat for my Max once daily in the early mornings. Max is a stray cat I adopted, and he is difficult to warm up to anyone. However, with Richard's magic tricks, Max was playing and had such a great time with him while I was away. I also hired a cat sitter from another company at the same time I hired Richard. The second sitter provided services overnight. I just wanted to make sure Max was taken care of. The first morning that Richard came to visit Max, he found the overnight cat sitter at my house with three other people, whom I did not give permission to be in my house. She have made herself too comfortable and left my house a mess. He sent me many pictures of how he found my house. Looking at the pics and comparing them with the camera surveillance throughout, I confirmed that the night sitter with her three other friends were definitely partying at my house without my consent. If Richard were not scheduled to come in that first morning, I would have never found out about the second sitter's inappropriate behavior. As I mentioned, Richard is very respectful of other people's property and has a wonderful work ethic. I will not hesitate using Richard's services again. He is a great asset to the cat sitting community in Hawaii, and I am so happy that Max had the opportunity to play and interact with him. Your CRAZY if you don't go with Richard. He charges way less, provides way more, has veterinary certifications other sitters just don't have - grows his own catnip and wheat grass for God's sake! I used to use a different pet sitting company that I loved, but they couldn't accommodate me in a pinch, when I had to suddenly leave town. He could and did. I was hesitant to use him, because Im a single female, and just don't trust dudes I don't know with access to my condo. But as I said, I was in a pinch. He came over for a meet and greet and I could tell immediately he's a cat whisperer. Due to past trauma, one of my two cats is terrified of men. She hides like houdini whenever one is in the condo. Her hiding places are epic. It takes her weeks, over the course of several visits, for her to warm up to any one man. And by 'warm up' I mean get so hungry she risks sprinting to her food under the cover of darkness. Within that first (complimentary) visit, Richard took the time (took about two hours) to earn her trust, and by the end, she was playing with him and rubbing up against him. They LOVE Richard. Pretty sure my leaving town is a treat for them, cuz they get to hang with Richard. Only sort of kidding. He brings toys, tunnels, scratching posts, his home grown catnip, and his adoration of the feline species. Just do it. Call him. He's an insurance policy against any worry while you're away. In two preliminary meetings with us and the cats, he evaluated the cats' home environment, personalities and cat-owner dynamic. The cats soon realized that they had nothing to dread and were completely won over. Richard's curated collection of field-tested cat toys (including those which were not designed for that purpose, such as a paper bag and ping-pong balls) fascinated and delighted the cats, and rightfully the manufacturers should be clamoring to appoint him their distributor. I just used Richard's services for a two week trip. Knowing that my kitty was in good hands (as was my home) allowed me to relax and truly enjoy my trip. From the comprehensive initial meeting to the day he handed back my house keys, I was impressed by Richard's knowledge, professionalism, and kindness. Receiving daily updates and photos verified that my kitty, though unhappy to be locked inside, remained clean, fed, and mentally and physically safe. When I returned, my home was spotless and smelled good even though kitty had a few accidents--which were obviously cleaned thoroughly and immediately. Richard even checked to make sure that I was home as expected so kitty was cared for. Look no further!
