Recently an old friend of mine from Honduras passed and she was more than proud of her home so I thought that I would eat Honduran food. A feeble tribute of sorts but something. I'd had Honduran food a few times at about three or four places. Most of the times I've had Pollo con Rajas. This time, I wanted to try something new and something classic, Taquitos and Pastelitos. Yes all fried and similar in taste but if pulled off well, a beautiful experience. This time, they didn't have taquitos which had me on the angry side but considering the present circumstances I left them slide and doubled up on my order of pastelitos. Now, the pastelitos were everything and more. They were sizable--the biggest I've had at a Honduran spot and the curtido (I don't know if that's what they call their slaw) was "slammin'" too!* They had the right crispy consistency and the golden brown color simply set everything off. So, my meal was simple, just an appetizer but it was done right. From that I can deduce that the taquitos, whenever I finally try them will be way worthwhile. So cut on some Punta and make your way up 14th Street before the bus barn renovation, revamps the whole area. *For effect, the quote is from numerous Lovesexy and Black Album cuts.

Amazing food and amazing service at Catrachitos. Cozy place with a wonderful outdoor patio and picnic tables to enjoy your meal. If you enjoy being happy, place an order for baleadas. They won't disappoint!

I'd been in the mood for some baleadas and had never been to this place before but remembered seeing it. They have various options and I chose the chorizo baleadas, man it was delicious. I took mine to go but I will be back for sure. The owner took my order and he was really nice and humble.

We also ordered Baleadas which I can best describe as a huge breakfast burrito wrapped like a long soft taco.

I ordered three chicken and cheese pupusas, and they were a great size. I was nearly full after the first two. The flavor was on point. My apologies for my photo because I was already halfway through my third pupusa before I remembered to snap a picture. I also tried the corn tamale, which my wife and I enjoyed a lot. On top of that, I ordered a steak taco, which unfortunately didn't make it into a picture either because I ate it too fast. What stood out to me was the "shell." Instead of the usual flour or corn tortilla, it uses the same masa dough as the pupusa, and I really enjoyed that difference. We finished our meal with the nuegados en miel dulce, something I had never tried before. I was glad I did because it was delicious and a great way to end the meal. Overall, the food and experience were excellent. If you are like me and rely on Yelp reviews to decide where to eat, I highly recommend giving La Casita Pupuseria & Market a visit. You will be well pleased like I was.

I think they adjusted their lighting a little bit -- it was quite dim, and from the outside it looked pitch black. My friend made a reservation for 10 (only 6 showed), but it was fine and I feel like I always sit at the exact same table haha. The staff were very kind and asked if the first to arrive wanted to wait for others, and yes... yes we did. Once everyone arrived we dove right in and everyone enjoyed everything. We had every type of sangria and some of the highlighted foods were the mejillones, platanos, empanadas, pancakes -- on wait, let me speak on the pancakes for a second. A few times when I previously came they weren't sweet potato. I forget what the reason was, but while they and the syrup were still fantastic, I really missed the sweet potato element. But that's back now, and all is right with the world YAY! The eggs benedicts, patatas bravas, datiles, French toast, and huevos rancheros were highlights too. I think it's new, but they have a note that indicates there will be a charge for excess leftover food. I wonder when they added that?? We did an excellent job of eating literally everything, and everyone was satisfied at the end. The staff did an excellent job of checking in on us, gave us plenty of time for last call, and were so diligent. Mind you it wasn't crowded... but listen, it needs to be. I believe even the owner came by asking how everything was, and wished us well on our way out. It's been around a long time... if you haven't been to La Malinche yet, do yourself a favor and go. They have happy hour on weekdays, but the bottomless brunch... it's $41/pp now. Higher than ever, but still the best deal around.
