Sad looking Bandeja paisa con carne asada
    Kelvin C.

This place is a joke lol. $60 for 2 Bandeja Paisa and look at this portion size. When I saw the sausage and pork belly i had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming because what is this. It's so small. Attached are 2 pictures, the small looking one is for this restaurant. The other one that looks packed is another restaurant in College Park. Both the same price.... Portion difference is insane and flavoring wise this place is mediocre at best. Should've drove further to College Park. Sad

    Chicharon con Arepa

Great place for Arepas in downtown silver spring! Even though the arepas were flavorful and filling, the real standout was the Chicharrón con Arepa. The side was so so delicious and one I feel like I do not find at most restaurants! The service was very quick given the casual nature of the restaurant. Would be a good place to grab a quick bite with someone else since the restaurant is fairly small as well!

food was delicious and authetic! service was good and i like sitting by the window watching the cars and people go by.

After a movie at AFI we came to this restaurant, after eating here several years ago, and we again enjoyed the food. I ordered Yuca Frita as a starter and it was very good. For the main dish, I ordered the Arepa Basket that included 4 mini arepas, each with a separate filling. It was excellent. My wife ordered a large soup called Ajiaco, which she said was the best soup she has ever eaten. Service is efficient. The place looks simple and is based on self service- you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. But the food speaks for itself.

Food is good. I've come this place many times and recommend it to friends. $10 for a black bean and cheese arepa is too much. I don't think I will be coming back any more.

Food is very good a flavorful! I love their platters. Service is good, and the general ambiance/vibe is nice because of the music.

It might take a little while to get your order but it's worth it. I got two arepas and they were delicious! The corn cakes were perfectly crisp on the outside and the filling was plentiful and tasty.

I ordered the ajiaco soup for pick up. The soup was filling and definitely hit the spot. I do have a recommendation which is I would have loved limes and hot sauce packets when I picked up the soup. Not sure if it's provided when when dining in but that is a recommendation, not a knock on the restaurant. I can't wait to try other dishes from the restaurant.

I saw this place across the street and had to stop by! If you never had an arepa.. you are missing out ;) There is ample seating and the music was a vibe. The staff helped me decide what I wanted. They were super helpful and nice. The food was prepared quickly. As someone from South America, I can say that the flavors were authentic. I had the arepa del dia with a malta. Basically what I used to have for breakfast growing up. It tasted just like it. I'm not sure about the parking situation but they are quite accessible by public transport. Make sure to give them a try.

    Amazing chicken empanadas!

Okay service, delicious chicken empanadas! Though the cashier wasn't very friendly, the chicken empanadas were so good! Though I didn't like the sauce that came with it, I found myself devouring 2.5 of the 4 empanadas I ordered. My husband polished off the rest when I got home. I would order from them a lot if I lived in the area!

The arepas are so good and the trouble I came across was not knowing which one I wanted. Good thing the have a 4 some of mini arepas to try and all 3 are winners.

Arepa with fried pork belly and grilled veggies
    Laura P.

Stopped in for a quick bite before a show at the Fillmore. We got arrived at a reasonable time, hot off the pan and the staff delivered them to our table. I would have appreciated more sauce. The little containers were half full and we only got one for an order of two arepas. The pork belly was crispy and good, but the grilled veggies felt a bit more steamed and floppy versus grilled (no char or grill marks). The restaurant was pretty quiet and easy to find a spot to sit. I would have liked things like salt, pepper and hot sauce on the table.

    Seating area.

It has been a long time since I last had them, and I was excited for my friend to try them. We each got an arepa, and we split tequenos and chicken empanadas... Yes, we were hungry lol. The chicken salad arepa I was as good as I remembered, and I got a glass of white wine that complimented it perfectly. It was my first time having their tequenos, and they were nice and cheesy. I'd take those over mozzarella sticks for real. There was only one woman working, and she was efficient in handling orders. I would come back just to hang out... But if they got music, that would really set the vibe.

I also took home frozen tequeños and made them for the Super Bowl... so good and now officially my go-to party snack. Service was excellent, super fast, and the girl at the counter was so sweet and really knew the menu. The ambiance is great too, they have coffee, wine, board games, and books, which makes it perfect for hanging out with friends. Definitely recommend checking this place out!

We had to get an early reservation as they were fully booked at dinner time. The food was just okay: the appetizer with the plantain and fried calamari was okay, it lacked a little bit of dimension and was too acid forward (needed more salt to balance it). The main was the "olleta" which is a vegetarian meal; it wasn't exactly memorable. It has an incredible amount of olives and capers and not enough tofu/plaintain/mushrooms. It was also very acid forward and lacked layers/balance to the flavor. Lastly, we tried two desserts: the flan (I believe it was called quesillo) and the chocolate one. I LOVED the flan with the foam on top, and the chocolate one was towards the bitter side (which was pretty good) but I wouldn't get it again. The desserts were very overpriced for the size of it. The place is well maintained and I love the plants all around. I would like to give it another try as I like to support my fellow Latinos

I looked at their menu, then set out to learn about their various entrees. My husband agreed to give it a try. Before going, we settled on trying "Pabellon Criollo" which is considered the Venezuelan national dish. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. and were surprised to see a few large parties dining in. Also, people came in to get their takeout orders. Not sure as to how the ordering worked when dining in, we made our way to their counter. The owner, Carlos, spotted us and got 2 menus. We confirmed that we wanted to dine in. Carlos is very friendly and welcomes customers with a smile. He also was our server. To drink, I had a lemonade while my husband had a can of Coke. We let Carlos know that we were both having the Pabellon Criollo. This dish consists of black beans with a bit of shredded cheese on top, white rice, carne mechado (which was shredded), 2 arepitas (small arepas) and some platanos maduros. When the food came, it was obvious that the platanos were freshly made. Carlos also brought a bottle of brazza sauce (also called "salsa de amor). He told us we could put it on any item we wanted. It's a mild sauce which is mayonnaise based with cilantro. We enjoyed this dish. Everything was mildly seasoned yet still well flavored. Nothing went to waste! When it was time to pay the check, Carlos rang us up. We both say we would like to return and try their steaks. From start to finish, we had a great experience.

Let's start with the obvious. If labor matters so much, build it into the price. Every other business manages to pay employees without turning the receipt into a public relations campaign. Instead, Chicken + Whiskey wants customers to admire them for charging extra after the fact. As for the food, the chicken looked less "wood fired" and more "insurance claim." One piece was so aggressively charred it appeared to have entered the atmosphere and returned. The sides were forgettable, the presentation was indistinguishable from a middle school cafeteria tray, and absolutely nothing on the table justified the premium pricing. The entire experience feels engineered by a marketing team. Keep the menu prices looking lower than reality. Add surprise fees later. Call them something noble. Hope nobody notices. We noticed. The funniest part is that the restaurant seems convinced the labor fee demonstrates transparency. Real transparency would be putting the actual price on the menu. What they're doing is the restaurant equivalent of an airline advertising a cheap ticket and then charging separately for the wings. For a place so concerned with fairness, they seem remarkably comfortable being unfair about pricing. I left feeling like I'd paid admission to watch a TED Talk about compensation practices while eating chicken that looked like it had been recovered from a structure fire. The food wasn't good enough to justify the price. The price wasn't honest enough to justify the policy. The policy wasn't clever enough to justify the attitude. One star. Raise your prices. Pay your staff. Stop expecting applause for it.
