I normally call upon friends to care for my cats when I'm out of town, but over Christmas, everyone is tied up and out of town so I was stuck. I called my vet and asked for some names of cat sitters, and Robin came highly recommended from the vet. I also had several yelpers reply to a thread I posted recommending her. When I first called her, she was eating lunch but still took the time to talk to me and called me back when she said she would. This is impresssive, because a lot of people forget. So she came over and got the keys and was very nice and seemed to really know what she was talking about, and the cats warmed up to her quickly. She watched them over Christmas and they were both happy. She sent me some text messages and a message on facebook about how it was going. I appreciate that because being out of town and busy with the holidays, it is much easier to find time to read/reply to a quick message, than to try to talk on the phone. I like that you can reach her on her cell phone any time, and if you are a "fan" of Cats in the City on facebook, you can tell that her clients really love and trust her. I think the prices are very reasonable too. It is no more expensive than boarding, and better for the cat. I think that CITC is cheaper that many other pet sitters, and you know that the person you meet is the person coming into your home. I was opposed to a larger company where it could be someone different each day, or someone I had never met. I would recommend Robin to everyone I know, and definately use her again! read more

Despite personal problems on the part of this small business owner, she worked with me to get an associate to sit for my cats. Carol was a fantastic cat-sitter, even bringing extra play-toys for my cats. She took pictures and sent me them by email of my kitties to show they were okay, and that alone was probably worth the price of admission. When I got back, the cats were well-fed, well-groomed, and while happy to have me back, they weren't frantic, which tells me they were treated well. I am sorry for the negative review because I usually agree with my fellow yelpers, and maybe my experience was an isolated one. I left my cat in the care of CitC for 2 weeks while I was away - services which were supposed to include daily feeding, litter box cleaning, and playtime. I also had a couple trusted family members look in on him and play with him, unbeknownst to CitC. They reported bags of feces left hanging from doorknobs and on top of the litter box, as well as unwashed food dishes. I also did not get daily updates on my baby, more like every three days. For the price I paid, I expected more, especially where my pet is concerned. read more

About two years ago my wife took in a stray cat. We have two shelter dogs already and even though I was a little worried about that I quickly fell in love with 'Fred'. I used to avoid going on trips because I was so worried about leaving my cat. I tried having friends take care of her. I tried leaving her at various kennels. I tried just not going anywhere. We have a cat who has health problems and is sort of neurotic as well, so we wanted a pet sitter who wouldn't stress her out and who could provide us with updates on our cat's health while we were gone. They are always willing to discuss changes to her routine via e-mail or phone calls before we leave, and are great at communicating with us while we are gone, giving us detailed updates on what our cat did while we were gone. Cats in the City is a great business. I found them based on Yelp reviews, and I'm so glad I chose them. Robin and Jennifer are amazing. They respond quickly to emails and are very accommodating. Jennifer went above and beyond for us. Rufus, one of our two cats, had an emergency right before we left, and as a result needed to be given medication twice daily. When we met with Jennifer to give her keys and show her around, we didn't know about this and had to send her a frantic email when we got back from the emergency vet. She was a total pro and said she would take care of him. I was so worried leaving Rufus that I almost didn't go on our trip. Rufus also needed to be monitored for bowel movements to make sure he was doing ok. Jennifer was a trooper and kept us posted. She sent us pictures and email updates daily, which was so great of her. She played with them and brushed them every day. I don't think I'd trust anyone else with my cats. As long as they are in business, we won't be using another service. For all of the years I have had pets, I have always worried about them when I would leave them for someone else to watch. But, for the first time I was able to relax and know they were in great hands. Not only did Robin send me updates on my cats, but I got the occasional photograph of them too. They're not bad cats, but they won't use a litter box that has more than about 36 hours worth of of cat "output" in it. If there's too much they find another place to go, usually our living room carpet. So, needless to say, we are pretty particular about who takes care of our cats. After a terrible experience with another Chicago cat sitting service, we were worried about leaving our cats for a week over the holidays. Robin to the rescue! She did a fantastic job - kitties were clean, happy, and well-fed when we returned - and not one drop of pee outside the litter box! Robin even sent us text messages and photos to let us know that everything was going great while we were away. This was my first time using Cats in the City and I thought they were just great. I usually have friends/neighbors take care of my cat, but I was going to be out of town for a full week and not only did I not want to impose, but I wanted to be sure my cat would get the attention she needed every day - and she needs a LOT of it! Robin and her staff are very professional and easy to deal with. My initial inquiry was returned right away, and Genevieve, the sitter, followed up promptly to schedule a visit to meet my cat. She was very thorough about my cat's feeding schedule, where things like cleaning supplies and toys were located, and also asked about things like watering plants. taking in mail, leaving lights on, and other things so that the apartment wouldn't seem vacant while I was away. As the trip approached, both Robin and Genevieve confirmed the sitting dates with me and when I returned Genevieve had left a log detailing each day of her visit. Overall i thought the service was great and the rates were very reasonable, especially compared to boarding at the vet or elsewhere (and a lot less stressful on my cat). I should also mention that I initially met Robin at Whole Foods while she was shopping for supplements for her own cats - you know when someone is willing to do that, they really care about their animals! read more
