This is a true tragedy. The course has an incredibly spectacular design and layout. Pulte bought it for a subdivision and the owners are doing the bare minimum. Don't blame them. This is just a GREAT track! read more

I love this course and staff. I hope the developers rethink their plan to build more houses. There are so many new houses and layoffs are up, keeping it as a course would be great for the surrounding communities. Cattails (and Coyote) going away to development is a shame. read more

Had an afternoon tee time on Sunday golf is extremely slow come to find out they have men's 18 hole league on Sundays and these guys are slow. Took us 5.5 hours to play 18 holes. Spoke to rangers and they said that's how it is. So be aware slow play is the norm here. Also building was dirty with paper towel parts on floor heading into washroom making you wonder what rest of building looks like. Golf course was average greens have a lot of slope which was ok. Tee boxes were in need of water hard to get tee into ground. Suggest you would be better off going somewhere on a Sunday afternoon. read more

If you go, check for construction on 9 Mile Rd and surrounding area. Almost every hole is uphill! Everything plays longer than you think. This used to be one of the nicest courses in the area (and I used to work here back in 2010/2011). But the course/clubhouse have not been well maintained. The clubhouse is dark, dated, and is very uninviting. They have this beautiful patio that goes largely unused and they haven't put any money into the landscaping around it. There is an old stair path to the former pro shop that is slowly being grown over and they haven't taken it out. The fencing around the parking lot is falling over and the parking lot itself is full of potholes. The food in the clubhouse is also not good. They do put golf simulators in during the winter months but there are new simulator businesses in Novi that have better rates. The course itself remains in decent condition but they overbook it. Its a very challenging course for the average golfer (narrow fairways, a lot of hazards). Playtime should run 2:15 but its frequently closer to 2:45. There is also a lot of damage to the greens (divots, halted repairs, goose poop) and the bunkers haven't been tilled all year. Considering they charge near top of market green fees, its just no longer worth it. There is a lot of competition in this area for golf. read more

Wow, how many worms am I going to kill? This course is very challenging eigtheen hole public course. This is what I would term a placement course. It's one you need to manage the distances and location. If you do these things well you will score very good. There is a reason they call this Cattails. It's because there are cattails all over the place which also equates into a lot of marshy watery areas. They have a nice, but kind of small clubhouse for events. Prices are reasonable, $28 for nine and $45 for eighteen. Had another bad round of golf. Lost a ton of balls. Next time I'm leaving my balls in my pocket. I had booked a "twilight" tee time at 6'o clock, when I get there they explain to me that I must pay the 18 hole rate because that's what I had booked for. I tried to explain the pro shop person that if we tee off at 6 PM there was no way we could complete 18 holes(sunset at 9pm), he didn't understand that. He wouldn't allow us pay for the 9 hole rate because that's not what we were registered for. I was in disbelief that the course had someone working the pro shop who seemed clueless about how tee times or golf operation actually works. We ended up leaving and drove 10 minutes to downing farms where we were able to pay $20 to play 12 holes for twilight. read more

Course isn't too bad. Cost for a round is good.Bathroom and clubhouse look a bit weathered and run-down. Could use an update and upgrade. The porto Johns are filthy and needs periodic cleaning. Never going back. Ever. The problems arised at the eighteenth hole, when a member of the staff came over and began complaining that the course was backed up and essentially asked us if we were the reason. There was a group ahead of us we had to wait for seemingly at every hole on the front 9, but I am assuming they did not play the back 9 as we did not see them after the ninth hole (keep in mind that we did much better on the back 9 than the front 9). After he left, we teed off, and I had somewhat of an arrant shot to the left side; I did not hit a provisional ball because I believe it could have been easily found. I let my partner tee off and then we went to go see where exactly the ball had fallen. We had spent literally not over 2 minutes to look when the same staff member came back to approach us, and very rudely asked what was taking us so long, to which I replied that I was merely taking a quick look for my ball. At this moment in time he became hostile, saying things such as "It shouldn't take you half an hour to find the damn ball," and "Maybe you should go to a range before coming out here." Now, mind you, I am clearly not a pro; I began playing a few months ago and am about a 30 handicap; but that is NO reason to be spoken to in such a manner. I have been to nearly a dozen golf courses so far this year and never had a problem. I replied saying that he should have more respect for his customers and sarcastically saying that they had great customer service. I then told him to not expect me to back there ever again, to which he replied "Good we don't want you to come back, I'll make sure to go tell the front desk not toto allow you." Me and my partner promptly grabbed our balls and left without finishing the hole. Mind you, it was the 18th hole! If he wanted to say something, he could have done so earlier in the round, instead of making an issue just as we were getting ready to finish! I've worked in retail and am currently in law school, and I can promise you I have never been spoken to in such a manner by anyone my entire life. Golf is a game that is competitive and one must respect others, the whole reason to go to a golf course is for love of the sport and pure enjoyment, of which I there was none after leaving. We picked a beautiful fall day to play. With the senior discount it was a very reasonable $27 to ride 18. The greens had been sanded recently so the Marshall told us to play the 2 putt rule-no complaints from me! This course is challenging but not overly so. The leaves posed a problem at times, it's frustrating to lose a ball when you're not ob. The tree lined fairways, patches of cat tails and rolling fairways made for a scenic backdrop. Would definitely play here again. read more

Went to do 18 holes but it got to be too hot and we asked to get a refund for the 9 that we didn't play but instead they offered up a useless rain check voucher that they did not honor when I tried to redeem it. I will not be going back and I will also convince my friends and other co-golfers that I know to play somewhere else. read more

Cattails is an eyesore. Not well taken care of. Golf carts are terrible. Does not look like they have invested a dime in years. Road, parking lots, landscaping are a disaster. Has great set-up, but won't spend another penny there. Could be a great course if they tried. read more

Pros: Cheap with Group Golfer or Groupon deals -- don't pay more than $18 for 18 holes with a cart. Decent driving range and practice facilities. Cons: Incredibly slow play (they allow 6-somes to play together), no water on course during very hot days, people that play here have zero golf etiquette, non-existent and clueless rangers and in the middle of nowhere. Played there yesterday and five hours later, regretted it. There was not one but TWO 6-somes in front of us and they were, let's say, deliberate. It was close to 90 degrees out and there were zero drinking water opportunities which is totally unacceptable. Doubtful that I will ever play here again. As for the course itself, it's very gimmicky... a place you will almost never use your driver off the tee. read more

Pricey for an off-season round of golf, but we did play 18 on a weekend with a cart so I can't complain too much. Drink prices were reasonable (especially considering we were handed 16oz cans when we were expecting your standard 12oz). The front half was nice, but the back 9 was kind of gimmicky. The horseshoe style 10th hole is just plain rude, and you can't get your driver out until the 17th hole or so on the back. It's weird. And they're off a dirt road. Not usually a problem but I had waxed my car THAT morning. Ugh! read more

Went to Cattails on Sunday with a buddy for the last golf of the year. The course is in really good condition, nicely manicured and well kept. It's a pretty good challenge, with a good number of dogleg holes that make you keep your driver in the bag from the tee. The layout is a bit confusing with the only indications as to where the next hole is spray painted on the cart path. A bit odd if you ask me. Also, the price was really too high in my opinion for this time of year (mid to late October). Absolutely NO watering stations on the course with the exception of one on the back nine(which was not in use). Also, for a course out in the sticks, it's a bit pretentious as well (no denim is to be worn). Also, when we got on the back nine around the 13th hole, play slowed down to a crawl. After we were done, the starter told us that there are leagues that play the back nine and that play is quite slow with that in mind. I probably won't come back here but I didn't mind checking out a place that was new to me. read more

Prior to tee off, we specifically asked the course manager if there were any events that day since we tend to play a little slower than normal. He said there wasn't anything going on that day, so we played the front nine (while letting other groups play through) and stopped for lunch in the clubhouse instead of just grabbing it and continuing. We spent a good amount of money on drinks in the bar (8 beers and 4 shots plus food), then bought $60 worth of beer for the back nine. Before we could start the back nine, the front desk told us there is a golf league that night (apparently there are leagues every night of the week) and they told us we couldn't resume for another 2 hours, or they would write us vouchers for 9 holes. They also wouldn't let us return the 12 beers we just bought for $60. The fairways and tee boxes were good, the greens were only ok, the staff were apologetic but uninformed, and the course manager blatantly lied to us. I will never be returning to this course. read more

Was disappointed with the pace of play and helpfulness of the staff. We were put behind a 5-some that was extremely slow. At one point, i could see the group in front of them clearing the next green while they were putting on the prior green. I could count 5 groups (we were the first) behind them waiting. We finally found a ranger (the only one that we saw the entire day) that we flagged down and said something. He indicated he told them they had to split up on the 8th hole. They didn't. When we made the turn I said something to the pro shop. His comment was "they are not playing slow." My jaw dropped and i told him that there were 5 groups behind them. He told me that we should pair up with someone to slow us down. They were "members" so they didn't want to make them mad. It was ridiculous. We had to tell the group to split up and the back 9 went much faster. Never saw another ranger on the course the rest of the day. Too bad too, since this was a very nice course but i wouldn't go back just because of the staff's indifference. read more
