Party of 6 for dinner. Had salads, charcuterie board, Ribeyes, Salmon & Shrimp and a burger. Steaks were cooked perfectly and served on warm cutting boards which helped keep them warm while we ate. Flavor was top notch, I love a great ribeye. Salmon and shrimp was perfect as well and burger was perfect too. Nothing was under cooked or over cooked, perfect. We had several sides, mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, Broccoli and Brussels sprouts. All were great, the only comment on sides is maybe some bourbon brown sugar type glaze on the Brussels sprouts. The wine selection is great, and we had some Moscow Mules that were absolutely perfect. And our server Ms. Avery was very knowledgeable on all the food and did a great job! If you live in or find yourself traveling to/through the Midwest, you need to plan a stop in Sac City, Iowa. Cattleman's is a restaurant that I have heard about, but never looked into or visited until now. Honestly, I was blown away. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and professional- you could tell that they cared about what they were doing and were happy to be working for this restaurant group. The decor and atmosphere was a nod to traditional steakhouses without being overly rustic or stereotypical urban cowboy. I truly appreciated the subtle touches that pointed towards sustainability and some best practices. A majority of the food is locally sourced, it lists where things like the oysters are being harvested from, they use metal straws, and biodegradable to go containers. Again, small, but impactful things. The spirits and food is so well done. I'm pretty sure I could talk to the owners/chefs/staff about it for hours. They have a lengthy spirit collection, their cocktails are meticulously crafted by a recently award-winning mixologist, and the food is prepared and presented beautifully. I had a very difficult time deciding the route I wanted to go, so thankfully my friend was willing to share so we could at least try a few things. My Manhattan was perfectly balanced and well made. Had I not been driving an hour home, I definitely would have loved to have tried another cocktail from their list. We opted to share the warm Caesar salad (small portion pictured) just so that we could try it. It was a delicious salad, but next time I would love to try the Scottish egg salad. The oysters (one baked and one fresh) were small, but tasty and obviously fresh. We tried the shrimp and salmon, broccolini, glazed baby carrots, a loaded baked potato, not pictured are the house fries that we took to go(you have to try the ranch!!), and of course I had to try 8 oz. fillet. After all, the restaurant is called Cattleman's. Finally, my dining partner insisted that she had room for dessert and chose the brownie trifle. Of course, I had to snag a couple bites for the review, right?! The brownies were warm, moist, and rich. However, the passionfruit mousse cut through the richness perfectly. If I'm being overly critical, my fillet was probably a little overcooked for what I like, but not much and it was still deliciously tender and flavorful. Also, the salmon skin wasn't as crisp as I was expecting. However, I am certain that had I let Staff know that they would have accommodated. - this restaurant is pretty open and spacious. A majority of it is on one level, but there is an elevated dining area as well that I only saw stairs up to. - to my knowledge there is only on street parking. Very limited number of handicap spots and I saw a couple of elderly folks needing to be dropped off at the door. read more

Dinner Roulette? Absolutely Amazing! If you are anywhere near Sac City you Must make the trip into Cattlemen's. When you walk in you can feel the atmosphere is all about the experience. Assistant Manager Mia, greets you at the door knowing that this could possibly be better than a Michelin Star. You order Dinner Roulette and throughout the meal you meet Sous Chef Ellie, (the best homemade ice cream imaginable) Chef Brian comes out with Pride and absolutely deserves every accolade for his culinary skills as well as people skills. As always a lovely place to take my sweet grandma. we went on Saturday for lunch. I ordered my usual steak sandwich, gma got the ABLT, and hubby got the chicken club sandwich. my sandwich was tasty as usual, next time I might try different bread as the roll was tough to cut. i didn't want to look rude shoving the whole sandwich in my face. grandma's ABLT was good, I got a bite, it was toasted crisp on the outside. the club sandwich looked great. they brought gma out a free dessert for her birthday. cream brulee cheese cake. it doesn't look like your average cheesecake nor dd it taste like your average cheesecake. it was way better. you could taste the browning on top. it was delicious! Cannot believe this restaurant is in Sac City Iowa. This would be a solid 4 star restaurant anywhere but for Sac City this would be a 10. Everything we ordered was great, I had the charred Caesar salad which was not only a good Cesar, but above and beyond. Every dish was done to that extra level with presentation and flavor. Service was wonderful. I just want to add the caveat for all of you small town Iowans that expect your service and food in less than 15 min. That is not a realistic expectation for a quality restaurant. Just prepare yourself for a wait and then prepare to enjoy a well thought out, prepared and served meal. read more

First time at Cattleman's Steakhouse Took my wife there for our anniversary Absolutely 5 stars, our waitress was very attentive and friendly . My wife had the warm Caesar salad, she loved it, 8 oz filet with Brussel sprouts, perfectly cooked. I had the 16 oz prime rib with loaded baked potato again perfectly cooked and delicious I had an old fashioned, great pour. They have a great bourbon menu. Cattlemen's new ownership, renovation, and the menu could not have happened at a better time! Sac City was in need of something new and vibrant. They have a nice menu which offers steaks as well as several seafood options. Food: Warm Ceasar - you don't see warm caesars on menus often, and it was nice to have one. 4/5. King Scallops - they were huge! But had a little too much salt on them. Regardless, they were a great value. 4/5. Jumbo Shrimp - these were also huge, just like the scallops. A little too much salt again, but still not awful. 4/5. I'm excited to dine here again and try their other dishes and steaks. read more

A couple things it is a very nice place, and service good, but we felt for the price of food wasn't up to expectations. My mother-in-law got the fish and chips, and that was wonderful. My husband and I being from Florida wanted a good Iowa steak, we were a little disappointed. Very fatty. We got the ribeye, maybe we got the wrong cut? Apple crisp disappointing for 9 bucks, 1/2 sm apple barley warm, some crumbles and carmel sauce on top and about 2tablespoons of whip cream. read more

Different kind of place for a small town, definitely worth a visit. Great cocktails, great dishes, beautiful platings, and great flavors. If you order off the dinner menu, this is a special occasion place. If you order off of the pub menu, this is a regular go-to. I love the local places in Sac, but if you're in the mood for something different from a lettuce salad with ranch (ok, I never really get tired of ranch), or a grilled cheese sandwich, give this place a try. Cattlemen's is a gem of a restaurant in small town Iowa. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the sourcing of the food. Sounds like they try to buy as much local as possible. I had a filet with creamy peppercorn sauce - the steak was cooked to perfection and was so tender and flavorful. We also ordered a salad which had soft cooked eggs and a delicious light dressing. The wine selection was very good and they have beautiful decanters and glasses. The best part of the meal was desert - cheese cake Creme Brûlée with berries and mint. Great addition to Sac City! An upscale menu within a trendy atmosphere. They do have a pub menu for lunch or dining at the bar. If you are driving near Sac City or live in the area check this place out! It's not your typical steak, salad bar, and fried apps type place so expect to try new foods and be blown away by the flavor. Easily some of the best tasting and best prepared food I've ever had! Filet Mignon was perfectly cooked, and for someone who is not a fan of veggies as a side, this place will change your mind, delicious! I've also had a couple business lunches here, I've tried the Walleye sandwich and the African Sausage meal (I cannot remember what it is called) both amazing. World class dining! This places definitely high brow at its best. The staff and owner were very attentive. From the first course to the fourth everything was delightful. This is not a place to wear a t shirt and flip flops. I ordered a steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. I've been to several steak houses in Iowa including the well known Johnny's in Des Moines. And this by far surpasses them. Their prices where, for the area, some what expensive. But given the atmosphere and perfectly executed meal I would say it's a perfect price point. This is NOTHING like the old Cattlemen's Steak house. Definitely a diamond in the ruff! Great dinner tonight! Started off with cocktails. My husband had the Bloody Mary which was tasty (he loves Bloody Mary's). I had the Italian Margarita on a friends recommendation and it was great. We had the warm Caesars Salad that was yummy. Followed by a filet that was cooked to perfection!!! Melted in your mouth. And served on the side a peppercorn gravy. Five stars is not even close to enough. As a culinary experience it ticks all the boxes. Selection is quaint yet dynamic. Flavor is robust yet stated. You'll be hard pressed to find a better Filet in the state of Iowa. Expertly seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. Lobster tail was superb. No detail is missed.
