Found this amazing spot on yelp. Not far from our campground on storm Lake. Amazing TVs to watch your sports great wooden floors great atmosphere in the staff are truly amazing! We had the bucket of wings, which, of course we could only make a dent in because there were so many wings so well worth the $30. The onion rings were crispy Krunchy and every sauce we got, especially the Carolina sauce was killer. I don't know who smoking their wings, but they know what they're doing. Get here enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy the music, by yourself one of their fabulous T-shirts for only 20 bucks, I mean come on who sells T-shirts for $20 anymore. That's just amazing. read more

We stopped in this restaurant with some friends while camping in Storm Lake. This place scores a home run in the food, service, and ambiance! We had the smoked wings, which were ordered to our exact liking. The best part of our dining experience, however, was having a fabulous conversation with the owner, Nancy. For a busy owner to take the time to converse with her customers was a pure delight. It was very refreshing to hear of her dedication to the restaurant, her loyal employees, and the community. The second time I went back in to let them know I didn't order platter I ordered sandwich and then I was given a bun. It was fabulous. We were in Storm Lake for my work thing. I looked for somewhere to eat and this place was highly recommended by coworkers who lived here. It has great yelp reviews so my husband and I figured we would give it a try. We weren't disappointed. The ambiance is antique-y with wooden floors that looked to be from an old gym, aged roofing tin horizontally on the wall, sliding barn door, with rolls of paper towels on the table. We were here in July of 2023. We had a large group from our family reunion and the people here were so kind and helpful!! The food was outstanding and the service was A+ !!! My grandson accidentally locked himself in the bathroom and they were so kind in getting him out. He is 4. He was not upset because they were so quick about getting him out. He will talk about that next summer when we come back to storm lake and DEFINITELY come to the Smokin Hereford !! I'd heard this place won the best burger a couple years back so decided to try it out. I realized since it smoked meat though, I'd rather try that. So I tried their wrap that contained chicken, brisket, and pork. It was served warm with your choice of sauce (I went with a slightly spicy bbq) and it was pretty good. The meat was well cooked but the overall meal wasn't crazy. The Mac and cheese was very good, as well. The waitress was very nice and polite and got my drink and food out quickly. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Storm Lake. Whenever we have folks come in to town and we want to go somewhere low key, this is at the top of the list. All of the meats (beef, pork, chicken) are good and if you're hungry, the 26 ounce sirloin is absolutely delicious. If you're undecided, get and Best of All Worlds as a platter or a burger and you get it piled with all three meats. I want to offer a shout out to their amazing and incredibly awesome staff. They've been short staffed for the past couple years and the servers are totally overworked but always have a smile and a sense of humor. We've enjoyed everyone but Nancy stands out. After a long day and watching her deal with stupid people, she still had a great attitude and made the experience that much better. Found this little place just out of town because I didn't want to eat at Kings Pointe. It's got a great casual BBQ place feel and I didn't feel weird sitting eating alone. I had the 8oz filet as the description of their wet ages process reeled me in and I'm glad it did. Absolutely delicious, tender and perfectly seasoned. The added mushrooms could have been better but the beer battered French fries made up for it. Me and my family tried this place out for the first time tonight. The place had a classic BBQ atmosphere that you'd expect. We started with the bone in buffalo wings and those alone are worth the trip. I had the brisket sandwich with a side of coleslaw- 2 things that any self-respecting bbq joint should be able to do well. Both the brisket and coleslaw met expectations. The service was good even though they appeared to be short staffed. TL;DR- would recommend. Good food, good service. read more

Sadly, if you're looking for real BBQ, this is not it. Occasion: We came in for my husband's birthday. What we ordered: We both ordered the fried cheddar portabella mushrooms as an appetizer and both had Best of All the World platters. My husband had a baked potato and potato salad as his sides, I also had the potato salad and sweet potato waffle fries. The appetizer was good, both of our sides were good, but my waffle fries were saturated in grease, obviously having been fried at too low of a temperature. Where things went wrong: The platter features pulled chicken, 3 pork ribs and some sliced brisket. The chicken was the only meat that the smoke flavor could be found. The ribs lacked smoke rings and had the texture as though they had been braised, which does make them tender, but without any of the flavor. The brisket was gray and rubbery, very unappetizing to look at and no flavor, no smoke taste. The amount of water coming off the meats that filled our serving baskets, as well as the appearance of the ribs and utter lack of smoke flavor, made it quite obvious that these poor meats had the what every true BBQ lover dreads - hardly any time in the smoker, then finished off in a steam oven. When we asked our waitress why the meats appeared steamed and why was there not a smoke ring, nor smoke flavor, she stated that they don't smoke them for very long to keep them from drying out. Bummer. Service: Was friendly and our waitress was attentive. Atmosphere: Thowback Country casual environment. Extras to be noted: Has the fun feature of being able to order beer served in a hearty sized Mason Jar and peanuts to munch on while you wait for a table and your food. Also a great selection of sauces at every table. This place with it's great service, atmosphere and beer has the opportunity to be a great place to eat, but it's poor excuse for BBQ is disappointing for anyone who's used to the real craft and this makes it hard to justify the prices and calling it BBQ. The fact that we didn't see or smell any smoke outside should have been a dead giveaway to the food inside. read more

We saw this place on our drive, and when we came back, made sure to stop for lunch. We arrived at a little before noon, which was a good idea, because it got busy soon after. The owners have worked hard on the ambiance. There are booths with church pews, high tables, and regular tables. The menu is right-sized, not too many choices. The beer list is inventive, with older beers, and new ones. There are four sizes (including the 64 oz Silo). The wine goes from "Red Dry"-3, to "Semi-dry"-3, to "Sweet."-3. Nothing a Chianti lover would want, but probably adequate for the average lake visitor. The table has six large sauce bottles, and this selection includes, Mississippi Honey, Carolina Red, Georgia Mustard, Memphis Sweet, Chipotle, and Heinz. These sauces were the best part of the meal, because I could compare some authentic tasting differences. The sides include spicy mac n cheese, beans, etc. Soups are chili and chicken tortilla (which He said was good). He had the burnt ends, which were fatty, and not really "ends". I had the brisket taco and the pulled pork taco. The pico de gallo was really tasty, but I suspect the tacos made a run through the microwave on their way to the table, because the meat was a little dry. However, there was some realistic pink smoke color on the brisket. We may stop again, and order something different. We'd try some of those peanuts, too. read more

The atmosphere is the right one for a BBQ joint; an unpretentious familiar environment, where you grab your own bucket of peanuts, and throw the shells on the floor. The food is delicious. While the chicken was slightly on the dry side, I'm sure their technique will improve over time. As of now, my favorite meat on the menu is the pulled pork. Well, who am I kidding, I'll always prefer pork or beef over chicken, but that's a personal preference. As for side dishes, I liked the coleslaw, but the big hit is the baked beans. They are spicy. Waitress was friendly and efficient. She wasn't versed on gluten free but came back with options. They do not have a gluten free bun but it isn't needed. My quarter pound slider burger was excellent! Margaritas were delicious and the sweet potato fries were satisfying. Try the sweet Memphis bbq sauce on your slider--probably the best bbq sauce I've had in Iowa. read more

We went to Smokin' Hereford after dropping our son off at school. We had been before on a college visit and enjoyed it. Unfortunately not this time. It took a very long time for our food to come out, over an hour. All of the food arrived at once......appetizers and main dishes. The food was tepid and had obviously been sitting a while. It was a very disappointing experience. We understand that it is college move-in weekend and they are probably busier than normal, but that happens this time every single year and they should have been prepared for it. read more

Ordered a Bloody Mary and the signature sandwich and it was very good. I may be back again today before leaving town tonight. The Bloody Mary was made from scratch and very spicy which I prefer. The sandwich had brisket, pulled pork, chicken and bacon and they had several sauces to choose from. It was also very busy which is always a good sign for a Monday night. As a novice BBQ smoker, I've become accustomed to authentic smoked meat. I was pleasantly surprised when I sat down at this joint and tasted amazing smoke flavored chicken, brisket, and ribs. I think the brisket even had a small layer of bark on it! It was all so tasty and tender. One can also slather these delicate meats with up to six sauces.
