I visited from out of state to celebrate my birthday and attend the Roots Picnic and was excited to visit River Deck for their "Caribbean night" after friends my recommended it. We were coming from the festivsl and hadn't eaten much all day, so we decided to start with ordering food. We waited at three different bars before finally ordering, only to be told they were out of the item I paid for. When I tried to reorder, the bartender completely forgot I had already paid and never put in my replacement order. After finally realizing that she hadn't put my order in after 45 minutes, I asked for a refund. Her way of making it right was giving me a dry, unsauced 6-piece wing (which wasn't what I ordered - my replacement order was a 12pc wing tossed in "cav's sauce" which was around the same price as the egg rolls I ordered and paid for). I asked for a refund AGAIN and she said she'd have to get a manager. The bartender avoided me and the barback ignored me. At this point I was livid. After never getting my proper order, watching people around me eat and leave, being ignored, and NEVER speaking to a manager, I raised my voice out of frustration. Instead of her trying to rectify the situation, she calls security on me. I was escorted out by security without a chance to explain. Even after showing proof that I only ate part of the food because I was STARVING and explaining the situation calmly, the manager refused a refund. Overall I enjoyed myself at Cavanaugh's on a Sunday. I was in attendance to celebrate a friends birthday. They played Pandora for most of our visit but a DJ became playing music around 7pm. I enjoyed the fried shrimp and veggie platter provided but the chicken wings were fried to hard for my liking (they were a bit dry) but they looked delicious. Now the biggest things that I did not care for during this visit was the bar. The male bartender (a female came on later on around 6pm or 7) while making our drinks dropped the lime on the outdoor bar and instead of tossing it, he put it on the side of the cup as garnishment. I didn't order another drink after that and stuck to beer in a can. After that I sat at the bar to watch how he worked and not one time did I see him wash his hands, wipe the bar down, or clean up the salt from the plate of salt that was on the bar for what I believe was used for margaritas that blew down the bar from the wind. Unfortunately, that is a turn off for me so I don't ever need another drink at this bar. Also, the food for the party should have been setup in the reserved area of the party and not on the opposite side of the bar. Shortly after the food was brought out, I walked over to get a plate of food and had to continuously swat away an annoying fly that was hovering over the uncovered food. Another turnoff for me. So I won't drink here unless it's in a can or bottle and I'll eat before I arrive if attending for a party. read more

First time visiting Cavanaugh's Riverdeck was for an event and it was decent. The place is mostly outside with different spots that are shaded by tent(s). The view of the water, bridge etc added to the experience. Since this review is based on the event, I think my time spent was cool. I enjoyed the atmosphere. Had a few drinks and appetizers. Tried the old bay fries & cheese sauce, cheesesteak spring rolls and mozzarella sticks. Tasted good and appropriate for this type of day. Bathroom was clean which is important to note! The bartenders and staff were friendly. They worked hard and kept the place cleaned while the event was going on. read more

I came here for a post Covid event on a Friday evening. I believe sip city mixer was a private happy hour event so my review is strictly on the location as I did not dine at Cavanaugh'a riverdeck. The Riverdeck's entrance is easy to spot and getting in through security was easy once we showed IDs. They had a tent set up and there were 3 bars within the outside area, each in a different section of the facility. There was a lot of people and everyone now being maskless including the bartender takes some getting used to. The view was okay and I had a good time. read more

This review is for the during covid experience at this establishment. In terms of precautions the staff is very good and a majority of tables are well spread out and outside. There is hand sanitizer and all staff wear masks. Due to the pandemic, the menu has now shifted to a more restaurant and food based ttpe. Food must be purchased prior to drinks and you will need to stay seated. The food in my opinion was somewhat decent and what you would expect from a bar. The food came out quickly and there were no issues with the food that came out. During the experience, my group was not given the correct food for one of the orders and the server gave us a really hard time. The server was rude and very unfriendly. Not coming byto refill drinks, water, or even ask if we were okay. The place wasn't even busy. If this isn't bad. The waitress made another colleague give us the bill and take it. Despite the rude waitress, the drinks were decent and food was okay. They are doing pretty well with covid going on. I just have to say that even though it is a change, please try to give us customers a decent experience. Going from being a bar tender is different, but we all deserve some common courtesy. Overall this was not the best experience during covid. This place is likely better when there aren't restrictions, but this first experience wasn't the best. . I'll give this about a 2.5......yea, since I'm about that wonderful world of the 30's life...eh I prefer a more older crowd. I came to the Riverdeck to celebrate my bestie's birthday on a Saturday and the vibe was party party party and everyone was having a good time. Getting in was quite easy, the bouncers were friendly and of course you had to show ID, we went to the booth to pay and at first they were gonna charge us 10.00 but so glad I made the decision to go online and make reservations which saved us 5.00. The music was ok, they played a lot of 90's music. I like that the dj was on the stage and hyping the crowd up which seemed to consist of the younger 20's crowd. They had drinking contests and people were getting wasted. They also had food, we decided to get drinks, they were a little pricey but I can be cheap lol the drinks were a little over 10.00. They also had the ladies going around serving 3.00 shots which were definitely good, I even got a little buzzed. Overall I'll prolly come back to check out their Sunday reggae nights as I hear that's a more older crowd and it be pretty nice on that day. read more

I've come here many times. Today I watched my bartender pour my first drink of the night and fill it with sprite to the top with no alcohol. Giving her the benefit of the doubt that it was an honest mistake, I said something, and she came back with attitude saying she did pour liquor. So I asked for the pen to sign my receipt (as I was just gonna talk to a manger) and said she didn't need my tip and snatched my receipt without me signing it. I went to a manager who said it smelled like alcohol so she can't do anything about it (no smell with several people confirming it). It's one thing if I've been drinking, but this would have been my first drink of the night and I've never seen anything like this. I've worked at a restaurant for 7 years and managed it for 2, I told the manager all I'm asking for is a replacement, as I have yet to drink the drinks and she said they may have done that at my restaurant but they're not that nice here and can't do anything about it. UPDATE: the bartender who took my receipt tipped herself off of it! Will be contacting the place once they open. Follow up: the owner reached out to me to rectify the situation. He did give a genuine apology and offered a refund and drinks so I am increasing the rating to three stars. read more

We got there a few hours before closing and it felt more like an outdoor club! Didn't get a chance to try the food but saw a few entries and everything looked good. We came for our friends bday, and out of a group of 50 people, 3 different people had their phones stolen and immediately wiped. They were in purses, so some professional scumbag took them. No help from employees/security. An employee told us "I hear that often". They know there's an issue with it yet do nothing. He smiled and smirked as he walked away from us. The location and size of this place is great. The views are AMAZING. I didn't order any drinks while I was there because I wasn't feeling well so I cannot speak to the quality of drinks or service. The entrance fee was $10. The atmosphere is really nice and they had multiple DJs. The biggest issue here was the crowd. My friends and I had a GREAT night and all we did was people watch all night. There were several fights that broke out and security was quick to break them out and escort people out. It appeared that people were drinking past their limits and didn't know how to act properly. This place has so much potential but the crowds they attract (at least that night) were out of control. The security staff was very alert and responded quickly to every situation. We had reservations for 8pm and were seated at 8:20 whatever no big deal but then 2 of the people in our group were about 10 mins late and security wouldn't let them in to sit with us claiming something about covid which didn't make any sense since they even stood in line and were fine with going through security. Finally, after much complaining, they let them in. The food and drinks we got were fine and our waitress was good, but then we paid and I checked the receipt this morning and they charged us an 18% gratuity and never told us, and they even printed on the receipt $0.00 gratuity. The bouncers are RACIST. They refused entry to my POC friends and would not give us a reason. They wouldn't even look at their IDs. They also threaten to hurt them and continuously told them to "fuck off." They also won't get a manager. The Staff are very attentive and prompt. Not sure if it's due to the COVID situation but food was less than desirable. Let's start with the Caesar salad with chicken it tasted like old chicken on top of the Caesar salads you get in a bag and the dressing tasted like mayo with Parmesan cheese. Attended a day party there on July 25th hosted by Philly's own DJ Gary O. And had a ball!! The place is spacious and I enjoyed some good music, nice scenery and decent libations that day! The DJ is usually the typical Top 40, EDM, Boy Band, Hip Hop Music. No complaints there. My friends and I just love going here to get drunk within 3 hours and dance a lot. The best night to go is definitely Saturday nights. We typically go on Saturday nights but this past weekend, we did Friday night. It wasn't as crowded. Which I guess is good. So disappointed!! I decided to take a trip to Philly for a day and came across this restaurant. I came in with a group of four and when we arrived the restaurant was completely EMPTY. We wanted to sit by the water but was told those seats were reserved for others in the next two hours. We didn't even plan to be there for two hours. We were then seated in the back in a corner while there were no other patrons in the establishment other than staff. A random storm then hit and we ended up having to move from outdoor to indoor. Now when this happened, we sat at a table and the four of us were forced to sit at one small table. We had to wait 20-30 mins without service. A table sitting right behind us at this point was given a round of shots, and drinks. They were also able to place an order for food. I had to physically get up from my seat and walk to the bar to ask if we were going to get served. I was then told by the bartender that they were still getting things situated since we had to move indoors. Obviously that was not true. Also, as I decided to get up, the security guard approached me to ask me to stay seated. He was so aware that I moved from my seat but couldn't address the fact that I was NOT being served. I've been here a few times and it's got its pros and cons. First the bad: there's a cover to get in and apparently if you sign up for the list online to get in free, it doesn't work. The service is okay. There's a bathroom attendant who's pushy for tips when it's kind of a disaster in there. I've been handled by the security many times when trying to get people to leave or to push me out of the way to address someone else. The drinks are a bit expensive and the music sucks. Finally, they do not give out water. Someone in my group had a little too much one night and desperately needed some. But instead of caring for their customers, I was shooed away. Next the good: location. You can't beat a place that has a dance floor on the waterfront. It's usually packed. And even though the music is questionable we get used to it after a few drinks. We recommend Jeager bombs. You can also dance on the stage and sometimes they give out stuff! And since there are so many bars there's usually no wait for a drink. Oh and best part? There's a food section open late. Perfect for a slice in between dances. And a quiet corner to enjoy a smoke or just get away. It's a great set up. Just needs better management. read more

We took the kids and it seemed to work out cause the two year old could run around a bit without interfering with other tables. We ended up getting the nachos...the massive ones which were all that was needed. Descent but huge. Great view of the sun setting. Beer list is mainly bottles and nothing fancy. I've only been here once and it was a decent experience. The staff was friendly. Decent bartenders! Waiting for drinks wasn't a long process like it can be. Drinks were good - even with well whiskey during open bar. Both inside and out need a makeover tho. Something about the aesthetics just doesn't draw me in. I enjoyed the outside space and views. The music was just whatever. I wasn't sure who they were catering to the night I was there, but I'd love to hear more current music that can be danced to. Was going to meet my friends with a couple boys and was denied at the door for one my friend was wearing a tank top guess ur not allowed to wear a tank by the water in the summer? This is more of a 3.5 review...but I rounded down because I'm"m 29 and I think I really shouldn't even be at this place past the age of 25. Cavanaugh's is an awesome location to really admire the beauty of Philly on a nice summer night. Located right under the bridge, with a deck extending into the river, good drinks and chili tater tots on the menu - the potential is quite large. Sadly what makes it fall a bit short is the crowd and the DJ, like in most establishments of this sort. Also prepare yourself to find parking, since they do not have a lot. First there is a cover, kind of unnecessary, since it's not a real club, just a large bar with a deck. Drinks are about $10-$12, DJ will play top 40's and inevitable a newbie 21 yr old will drop part of their drink on you. The attire is extremely casual, there are tons of bachelorette parties that come here every time I'm here, which actually adds to the lure of the place to see them drunkenly make fools of themselves in their last hoorah. I think this is probably the best place in the city to come a little early, get a chair by the outside bar and just people watch. I personally like a better mix of music, but I have been known to get up here and there and bust a move. Great place for happy hour, with tons of drink specials and a decent food menu (all bar food). So bring your flip flops, fake ID and put your hair in a scroungy because it's going to get hot tonight at Cavanaugh's. read more

Everybody has bad restaurant experiences here and there but instead of leaving this place dissatisfied I actually left upset, really upset, and here's why. Came in Saturday night with a group of eighteen girls. Called ahead and were seated at two tables of nine right next to each other. No problem. The ambiance here was so perfect for what we were going for. Cavanaugh's is located right on the water with the most beautiful view of the bridge. The tables we were seated at were underneath a huge tent and there were three outdoor bars from what I could see. Our waitress who was very young was so painfully inexperienced. It took her a good half hour to come over and take a drink order. I asked what kind of beer they had and she said she had no idea. Then I asked if they had a drink menu and she said they are working on making one. Okay? Instead of her going over to find out what they had I took the initiative and walked to the bar myself to check out the selection. They offered three crappy beers on tap but the bottled beer selection was awesome! Landshark, Magic Hat, Summer Shandy and others. Most of the drinks brought over were wrong. She brought over too many of some drink and none of others. My friend ordered a mojito and it was made with tequila. She sent it back and the second drink she got was straight club soda and mint. The margaritas at the table were watered down big time. It took our waitress another twenty minutes to come over the take our food order. My cousin and I split the vegetable burger and mahi mahi fish tacos. It was my cousin's 25th birthday so I went up to the bar and ordered a birthday shot. I asked the bartender if she could make some sort of cake shot. She looked at me like I had nine heads and said well what do you want? I said whatever and to just make it good. (Most bartenders know how to make a birthday shot, whipped vodka, marshmallow vodka, whatever be creative) She poured one and I saw she had extra so I said I'll take two shots if you don't mind. She poured what was left and it only filled up about a quarter of the shot glass and she charged me for TWO. I thought she was kidding but she wasn't. 12 dollars later, we took the two worst tasting shots on the planet. Our appetizers came out and I got up to find our server to ask if she would sing for my cousin's birthday. She said of course and asked for her name. Then she proceeded to tell me its going to be a while until our food comes out because she messed up the order on the computer. I said no problem at all! As long as you come take some drink orders we will be happy. Did she? No. The appetizers were fine. Crab dip with pita was pretty tasty. Our waitress never came back around to take more drink orders so throughout the night my friends and I were getting up and going to the bar for drinks. Entrees came out about an hour later. The majority of my friends thought their food was inedible. We had an array of the pigs and pretzels, crab and avocado plate, chicken sandwiches and burgers. I have to say that the vegetable burger was probably top TWO best tasting burgers I have ever had in my entire life. It didn't come with the sides it was supposed to but I didn't care, it was so good. The fish tacos weren't made with fresh mahi mahi so they were just Eh. Now, here is where everything went bad for me... Waitress tried clearly our plates before we were halfway done multiple times. What's the rush? Then she dropped the check on the table. She must have forgotten to sing happy birthday and she was nowhere to be found so I went up to the bar and asked if the bartender could ask our server to sing. The bartenders response was, "Why would I know where she is and how would I know if she wants to sing happy birthday." Seriously? I finally found our server and reminded her about the birthday. Her response, "Oh I forgot, what's her name again?" I told her and she said she would be out with cake. Twenty minutes later she came over collected the check books and told us to have a good night. No singing. No candles. No cake. She came walking past our table again and I gave her a look. She came over to me and said Oh yeah what's the birthday girls name again? This was the third time. My cousin happened to be sitting next to me and heard the waitress ask me and it was SUPPOSED to be a surprise. She walked away and NEVER CAME BACK. I asked THREE TIMES for them to bring something out with a candle and they NEVER DID. I was mortified, embarrassed and so upset. I don't want to be dramatic and say this place ruined my cousin's birthday but I asked three times and they ignored every request. I was so angry and I am still angry. Overall, the service was horrendous. This seems like a place to go to late at night to party. I however will NEVER be back. Heard great things about this place from friends who have lived in Philly for a long time. We decided to go to Reggae night on Sunday. Should have turned around at the door when they told me it was a 15 dollar cover (ok but not ideal) and NO WHITE SHIRTS AFTER 9PM! (Its f*cking summer) They literally made me buy a black Hanes T-shirt for 10 dollars at the door and change before I could even pay to get inside. Furthermore, nowhere on the website did it say anything about a dress code. I have NEVER encountered this kind of scam at a bar, and it should be changed or announced immediately. I was pretty upset by this but was with a group so decided to suck it up and spend less at the bar. Which was ideal. The drinks are overpriced and watered down. A corona was 7$ and a cheap gin on the rocks tasted like water. If that wasn't enough within an hour of being there we saw some agro manager yell and kick his employees out for god knows what. Making a scene and killing the vibes. The place is run like a scam and management clearly sucks. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place a 2 is because the crowd was chill and the music was nice! This was my first visit, so maybe I just got unlucky but I will never go back to this place because it is not safe. I went to Cavanaugh's with a party that had an open bar option. We paid $20 for three hours of open bar, which seemed too good to be true. It was. Boy do I feel bad for anyone who actually pays for individual drinks at this place. The drinks are so obviously watered down (and not even good) that it took almost 6 to even tell I wasn't just drinking soda - coming from a girl who is an extreme lightweight. Do not pay for drinks here, its a crime. But the BEST PART OF MY NIGHT was having my phone, all of my money, and my ID stolen out of my bag while standing in front of the stage outside where they have competitions/entertainmen­t. I have reason to believe this happens a lot, as the person who stole it clearly knew what they were doing. Do not waste your money here, it is dirty and unsafe and you are better off going literally anywhere else. Terrible crowd, terrible drinks, terrible music, terrible staff. River Deck is one of the more popular outdoor venues in Philly. The deck area is absurdly huge, making for ample dancing if you're into that sort of thing. The DJ is okay, I've experienced better at smaller venues. There are quite a few bars so if one is crowded you can get a drink with minimal wait elsewhere. Kitchen is open until one, and offers decent, quick, reasonably priced bar food. $4 gets you a huge platter of fries that will prevent a hangover. The crowd consists of bachelorette parties, newly turned 21 year olds, kids who got in with fakes, and delusional older women. I think I was the only minority the night I went, but I digress. Anyways, River Deck gets a low rating because of the price. The $5 cover isn't bad at all, but the rip offs begin once you order drinks. Wells are around $8, and they're watered down. Sometimes they have beer specials, but usually not. Your best bet is buying $5 shots from the promo girls that walk around. The whole riverside outdoor thing is great and all, but I'd much rather be indoors and not have to spend $25 on three weaksauce drinks. read more

BEAUTIFUL location! That said, everything else is downhill. Expensive watered-down drinks, and a lot of creepers in the crowd. If you're going for the view, i'd recommend going during the day to avoid the nasty dance floor full of gnarly people at night. read more

Came here with some of my new classmates after our first week of medical school orientation. :) We were seated outside on the riverdeck (haha) right by the water. It was a great view. Our server could have been more attentive at times (we had to ask for some things multiple times), but she was pretty nice. I had the hot wings and old bay fries which were both decent and shared their blue lemonade bucket with a friend. The waitress was nice in helping us split the checks amongst our tables. I had a great time with my new friends and would definitely return for the view, chill vibes, and comfort food. Only thing missing was some good music. read more

I attended the Roots Picnic at Penns Landing. It's a 12 hour concert and they had a rule of no re entry back into the park after your ticket is scanned. Most people started leaving half way through the concert after getting tired of standing in the 90 degree heat with no seating and headed here. We couldn't see the performers (which was fine cause you really couldn't see them at the concert anyway) but you were still able to enjoy the music at this outdoor bar. We sat at a table by the water, ate, and enjoyed the rest of the concert. Food was mediocre, service was slow, but hearing the concert we paid for here was awesome. read more
