It looks like I'm once again in the minority here, but maybe because I'm so used to the club scene, I'm just more used to it that everyone else. I came here with a guy friend last night to let off some steam, and we both had a blast! Yes, the drinks were rather stingy (but they were free, so whatever), but we don't need to be liquored up like so many of the people who obviously can't let loose without some liquid courage. Pros: Top 40/ Hip Hop, free cover (Saturdays), and open bar Cons: People on the dance floor sloshing drinks all over, stingy 'free' drinks We had an awesome time here last night, and maybe it's just because we know the crowd that tends to hang out here (go for a couple weeks, and you'll be able to pick them out too!), so we all just have a good time regardless. DO NOT COME HERE/AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Started out as a decent Halloween party until my friend got assaulted by the security guard where he literally slapped as hard as he could the phone out of her hand. Btw she has a scratch and was so upset for the remainder of the night/morning after. The owner was NOT apologetic for his staff and just disregarded the event as 'stuff happens.' Then he proceeded to THREATEN us that 'if we filed a false report, we'd get arrested.' BTW, we have video evidence that it exactly went down the way my friend described it to be and that the club/bouncer/owner was TOTALLY in the wrong. Also another fellow student got her phone confiscated for no reason AND my bf was accused of having a fake ID (he's 30 btw). This club is literally the shittest place we've ever been to. Staff as rude. My friends and I were the only ones dancing, and noticed we were being VIDEO RECORDED throughout the night by other club-goers. You are not allowed to wear your jacket around your waist, nor can you carry it, so you MUST pay for coat check which is an additional $3. So my roommate Ashley and I went here last night, I did not know I was walking into a 17 and up club. I have never felt more old in my life. The music was obviously amazing, but the party was hosted by Q102 and they were having the girls compete in these booty shaking contests. No lie, I probably saw about 5 underaged vaginas, while this creepy old dude took pictures and another video taped. I just seriously couldn't believe what I was witnessing. Not to mention the big screen playing the live feed of the video camera with a texting stream from the club-goers. This place was just promoting drugs and teen sex. This will definitely provide a glimpse of my snobbery to the masses. But I don't care. Two friends and I went to the Roxxy to see La Roux perform. We knew it wasn't going to be a typical music venue, and that the majority of the people in the place wouldn't be there for La Roux, but we went anyway because we loves La Roux. I don't exactly know how I would have described this place before the Jersey Shore started airing...but it's safe to say that Philadelphia's version of the Situation, Pauly D. et al were there in force, ridiculous hair cuts, pumped up shoulders, way too short skirts and a general lack of fashion sense. There are two giant screens in view of the dance floor, which allow those in the club to text their thoughts directly to the mob...this includes things like 'hey u in that tightass dress, i like your style' or whatever. If you identify with the characters on the Jersey Shore, then you will like this place. If, however, you are older than 21 (it is often a 17+ place) and have any sense of dignity/self-worth (again, snobbery) then this is most definitely not the place to go to dance, drink or be merry. That night there was a $20 cover. Cheap beer existed, but their cocktails weren't overly strong...and were served in plastic cups, of course. read more

I didn't know what to expect from The Roxxy. But my friend wanted to celebrate her bday there, and the website and pics online suggested, "This could be a cool, happening dance club." Not so much. It had trashy Delaware Ave. club written all over it from before we even stepped in the door. First off, the bouncer woman at the door made me throw away my pack of gum in my purse... the ENTIRE pack. No gum allowed inside apparently, even unwrapped. For real? Once we were inside, things weren't much better. Wired 96.5 radio was hosting, which may have had something to do with the trash factor. The crowd was almost uniformly white, unattractive, and a little douchy. Girls wearing way more revealing outfits than necessary, and guys trying to grind up behind us. Music was ok, but the place felt rather empty for a saturday night for how large it was. We left early cuz it just wasn't that fun. Other people might have a fun time here, maybe we just had a bad night, but personally I don't dig this place, and I probably won't be back. read more

This place... is not poppin by any means. The crowd, is odd. The music is mediocre. The hookahs are TRASH. They don't assemble them correctly, they fall apart, and do not pull for the life of me. ha HA! I've onyl been here once & it was for the Making Time 4th of July bash so... I'm sure I didn't get the REAL flavor of what Bamboo Bar/Roxxy is like on the reg. But what I did see, that I'm sure is always the same, is bikini clad bartenders with the worst fake boobs. I mean those babies look hard as rock. This place isn't doing well and it tries to lure people in with their constant happy hour 'specials' but the one or two times I decided to take advantage of the deal (and for me and an unlimited entourage to drink for free for 2 hours, it is a deal), I was sorely disappointed at the atmosphere- nearly empty at 10pm, and by 1am, a meager group of sophomoric and shottily-dressed clientele, unenthusiastic staff, and terrible slutty go-go dancers. Unless you're rolling 10+ deep and quite intoxicated so you can overlook all this and make your own fun, the dirty and half-assed vibe will most certainly make you wish you went elsewhere. In fact, with such an enticing happy hour deal, you most likely will tie on a load and it still won't change the scenery or the feel. In addition to all this, now that I am permanently engraved on Bamboo Bar's/ Roxxy's happy hour special sucker list, I get a call from one of their employees an average of once a week. When this marketing onslaught first began, I was polite, even apologetic as I declined. Then, as they continued calling, I firmly asked to be removed from their call list- and was ignored. "We use several different lists", they tell me. Read: "Even if we remove you from this list, your number is still on another one, and you will never be rid of us. Muahahaha!" They still continue to call. I now just hang up after "Hi, this is the Roxxy-". Great customer service indeed. read more

I've been to the Roxxy about 3 or 4 times. For what it's worth, the place does get crowded, generally beyond maximum capacity. Whether or not you like that type of atmosphere is left up to your judgment. If you get there early enough, you'll have to time to dance with space on the floor and feel comfortable. Post 10:30, you need to be aggressive about getting from one end of the room to the other. During the summer, when the Bamboo Bar is open instead of the top floor of the Roxxy, you feel that the club is a bit more spacious. The music is Top 40's and Hip-Hop and the DJ's are generally very good. Overall, I enjoy much smaller clubs because of the breathing room that they provide, but if you like the crowded clubs where you are pretty much bumping and grinding, whether you want to or not, with the person in front of you, definitely check it out. I think the cover is ten or fifteen bucks. If you can find a flyer online it's slightly cheaper. I usually found some on their MySpace sites. read more

I've been in Roxxy a year ago. It wasn't great but was quite fun. People were nice. However. I was surprised by music. Exactly the trash commercial music you would here in cheapest clubs. I went to roxxy last night. It was terrible. The only reason why people still go there is just to find somebody to spend the night with. If u r the person who looks for nice club music, fun DO NOT GO THERE! There is no dress code So girls wear rather daily wear or like prostitute. To experience Roxxy you have to go during warmer season when Bamboo bar is open. It's Roxxys better half. The bar is outdoor with an amazing deco of tropical theme. The dance floor is also outdoor and during a good breezing hot summer it feels great. You possess a natural high when you dance away with your friends and the sky is wide open. Roxxy (inside) itself isn't bad. I like the face that it's spacious and have three bars . It gets crowed but there's room to accomodate all the people. I believe no matter how bad a club is it doesn't matter if you're there with fun and amazing friends. There were some weekends when the music wasn't that great but I still enjoyed myself because of friends. Tip: if you're over 21 and like me, hate 18+ clubs do find out ahead of time before you go because they usually have it on friday nights. read more

Visited here after Geno's w/ my friend who was in the US visiting from Amaan, Jordon. After Geno's cheesesteaks he wanted to do something from his culture, but finding anything open at 1am was kinda difficult so we ended up here. What a MISTAKE. We didn't pay cover because it was so late, but they were hesitant about that. So we get into the hookah bar and OMG it couldn't have been worse. The music was SO LOUD that you couldn't even hear the person sitting next to you. This was a totally new experience for me and I truly wish a more Asian type lounge was available for us because this absolutely sucked. $25 per hookah, drinks were over-priced and weak. Would definitely not recommend unless you are a huge fan of very loud rap type music that shatters your ear drums. No one dancing on the dance floor (I'm not even sure there was one) but plenty of girls grinding on each other and twerking. So if this is your thing ok, but it surely wasn't ours. read more

this was a last minute decision to head here after Level Lounge was a bust on a saturday night. The only reason I chose to head here was because i knew it was an actual "dance club" with space, not like the lounges in Old City, Rittenhouse etc... getting in wasn't that bad...the bouncers were thorough, which i dont' mind because it is, after all, KILLadelphia. i'm not trying to get shot or stabbed!!! the place is a mixed crowd, which i like...philadelphia night life gets too segregated. The dresscode is just club stuff, nothing dressy or fancy..you're there to get your groove on lol. the bars weren't that busy, i didn't drink much anyway, spent most of it on the dance floor with my group. because the place is big, it didn't get too hot like other places. the bathrooms were wet...flood? i'm not sure, they had a big ass fan trying to dry it or something. but it wasn't that dirty. i thought it was a good chill time. something different. just don't expect it to be a mega club like AC or NYC... if you're looking for parking, it can be a hike read more

NEVER EVER EVER GO HERE. This was the location for a business school halloween party. While waiting in line for the bathroom, my classmate's phone was stolen by a security guard and as I tried to record the situation, another security guard assaulted me and smacked my phone out of my hand, making a cut on my hand. When we tried to talk to the manager, we not only waited in the freezing cold for 20 minutes, but he also told me that I would be arrested for making false accusations (which I was not). This is probably the worst I have ever been treated in a club setting which is truly saying a lot. I was physically, emotionally, and psychologically harassed by half of the security and bouncers at the venue because of where I was standing (in open spaces). My physical removal was threatened several times because they were withholding my belongings in coat check. Not sure where to begin but this place is a joke! I have been to other clubs before and this place was the worse. My friend won an open bar(reading the other reviews now I think that's their way of trying to get people to come). They split the line into men and women, the women's line was shorter but still took forever. You are patted and search throughly which is fine with me, I like to feel some what safe in Philadelphia. My friend was not allowed in because she was wearing sneakers. Men are allowed to wear sneakers but women are not. We checked the dress code on the website before we left and its of course not stated on there. I think a rule that specific should be stated. When we asked why they just ignored us.one of the bouncers came over and told her there is a Walmart six or so miles away, my other friend drove her to buy some cheap flats and had to find out the hard way that the bouncer meant six or so miles in New Jersey! The lady that takes your name is really rude, and the place was not that busy for having so many people waiting outside. I think they do that to make it look like the club is packed. Even though they throughly check your jacket you still are made to check your coat which is 2$. The place isn't that nice on the inside, pretty bland and run down for a place that won't let women wear sneakers. The drinks were free 9pm-11pm. No one was on the dance floor until after 11 and it still was not that busy. It's pretty much a glorified dive bar. My couple friends that went on a shoe hunt come back about 2 minutes after 11pm. The lady said they had to pay $10 cover. We tried to explain the situation and told her that they were on the list . The lady didn't care of course. My two friends were waiting in line for the ATM and decided to go use the bathroom which is right by the atm and front desk. The lady ran into the bathroom after them pushed them out and was yelling at them that they had to pay the cover to use the bathroom. This place treats their customers horribly and our group of friends all decided that we will not be going there again. Our group decided it was time to leave. I went here for the first time last Saturday night because a friend of mine won a happy hour. When we first walk up around 9:15 (happy hour was from 9-11), there were 2 separate lines to get in; a line for guys and a line for ladies. The girls line is significantly shorter, to which I was like, "Sweet!", but I was in fact mistaken. For some reason, the lines moved incredibly slow - we waited for about 20 minutes to finally get in. When we got to the bouncers, they pat you down and search your purse. Now, when I say pat you down and search your purse, I don't mean they peek in your bag real quick and do a once over; I mean this is as violating as the TSA. Also, you can't bring in gum or anything vaguely resembling a weapon, like a pen. What is this, Soviet Russia? I've never in my life been searched like this before going to a bar/club. Then, once we all get inside, there's pretty much NO ONE in there. What exactly did we have to wait 20 minutes in line for? Not only that, the girl with the happy hour lists was super rude when we gave her our names. Also, I understand that a lot of people were there for the free 2-hour happy hour, but the bar tenders are pretty stingy with the drinks. As in they manually measured out the shots of alcohol they were putting in the mixed drinks with a measuring cup. Seriously, I have never seen that. Ever. I must say though, all the bar tenders were decent otherwise, very nice and were prompt with service. Anyway, I can't really complain about free drinks/crappy beer for 2 hours, but seriously, stop trying to act all exclusive. They're located on a particularly empty stretch of Columbus Blvd, it's not like they're in some high traffic, exclusive area of the city. I'd rather go to Cavanaugh's Riverdeck any day. read more

I haven't partied on Delaware Ave in quite sometime. The Roxxy was a spare of the moment stop and I'm glad I did. Upon arriving the line was short and I was a little unsure if things were going to pop. Ladies were free before 11 along with I.D Guys had to pay but why not with the beauties that arrived later that night... It was quiet for sometime. Folks were just arriving and the D.J. was seeming to feel the crowd out. Table and bottle service was provided for myself and guest. Food was delicious. Wings and other items.... Various flavors of hookah were on the menu. The peach was great. Loved how the staff made sure the coals stayed warm. The place filled up but not too heavy. Pretty cool for a Thursday night. The D.J. played trap music, local artist and some great reggae. I'm sure if requested, he would've played other jams. Busy eating and dancing. Sipping chilled beverages. I LOL quite a bit. By midnight the inside tables were full, hookah and bottles were sparkling throughout the dim lit room. I would like to have known about specials and other things going on in the club besides ladies being free and bottle service. I wasn't sure where the dance floor was. Most guest danced by their tables. Not until leaving for the bathroom, which was spacious and clean besides a large soap container that was awkwardly placed on the sink that should've been in a wall holder. For anyone wanting to go out spare of the moment. Great place to grab a bite and shack a leg along the water front. I plan to return. read more

This is the worst place I've ever been to! I went with my friends last night and at about midnight a guy from the security told me to leave the place without any good reason. We weren't doing anything wrong or bothering anybody so we didn't leave the place and a few minutes later a woman came and told me to leave. I said no but she insisted so I started to walk away and suddenly she grabbed me very aggressively with her arms around my neck like I was a criminal or doing harm to someone. I totally freaked out about it. My friends tried to help but the security guys pushed them away and kicked them out of the place too. After this I couldn't do nothing else but cry the whole night and felt treated like a criminal for nothing. Did I do any harm? Was I bothering people? Was I being violent or messing around the place? NO!!! and if there was any reason to kick us out of the place, they should never have grabbed me by my neck and treated me like they did. That woman grabbed me in a very DANGEROUS way and I really feel harmed and hurt (phisically and mentally). Professional security staff should know how dangerous it is to grab a person by the neck and pull it through the whole club. It doesn't take a lot of bad luck to break a spine when grabbing someone the way they grabbed me. I don't want to imagine mine and those people's lives if that would had happened! My friends were very friendly too so I cannot understand why the security staff was SO VIOLENT! I live in DC and I've been to too many others places there and around the place and nothing like this has happened before. People are usually nice and security staff know how to do their job but certainly not here. Too bad that in this place these people don't know anything about being polite and don't have a proper behavior in a situation like this. I wonder if they are trained in their job to be aggressive and don't use conversation or civil people ways to manage a situation like this. This place is disgusting. It needs to be shut down immediately. First of all, the overzealous guy at the front needs to go. He refused to permit entry to one in our party because of her NY state ID (He thought, incorrectly, that it was a fake). We tried to reason with him and asked if she gave him another form of ID would she be allowed in, but he said, flat out, that she would not be allowed in. If that weren't enough, when I asked for his name, the coward disappeared inside and another sweaty fat guy with a mohawk gave us a fake name. If this is your idea of a good business model, your business is going to fall flat sooner than later. This club deserves negative stars ! It is absolutely AWFUL! A friend and I (both 18) arrived around 10pm (the club opens at 9pm) and there were literally 8 (EIGHT!) people there. The eight people that were there, were completelyyy trashy, fishnet stockings, bras/underwear hanging out of their clothing, some of them didn't even have their pants buttoned, I was in awe. Music was playing, but nobody was dancing, everyone was just standing around. Anyways, after continuously getting hit on by this smelly/disgusting/creepy guy, we decided to leave. At this point, we had only been there for about half an hour. I asked for my money back, but of course, had no such luck. Decided to unfortunately go here last night with a few friends. They were advertising on a flyer on their website that they were having a pretty big event so we figured why not? We get there around 11 and it's dead inside, they had the bamboo bar closed and the upstairs. (Which they don't inform you of) we were told that we had to pay $90 at the door for the three of us, I only had $80 on me and the woman at the front was quick to say that was fine which seemed shady to me. We go inside and there is no body there. We figured let's wait until 12:00 because it might fill up...wrong. I also watched the woman at the door charge people different prices to enter ranging from $13 per person to $40 per person. I told my friends and we decided to go talk to the person at the desk. I guess the woman's shift had just ended because there was a man sitting there. We informed him of the issues we were having and demanded money back. He told us no and that the prices were listed on the advertised flyer, (which they weren't) and we pulled it up on our phones to show him and then he proceeded to tell us that he never said the prices were on there because it's a private event. We also mentioned that we tried to call multiple times during the day for a price and couldn't get through. I asked to speak to a manager and he said no. I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me. And then proceeded to tell me he didn't even work there. Really? If you don't work there why are you behind the counter charging people? Why wouldn't you try and mend the situation as a professional? He told us that if we "weren't having a good time we can get the fuck out." We wanted to give this place a chance and stay for a little....but apparently if you go there you will absolutely get nowhere and robbed. After leaving I told everyone walking down the street to not go there and shared our experience. I hope this place loses as much business as needed to close permanently. That space could be used for something other than a sorry excuse for a night club like the roxxy. I will never return and neither will anyone I know. The Roxxy is bullshit. Theyre lucky they have Lucky working there. He is the only reason me and the guest I invited (who actually made it in; only half of them did!) decided to stay for my birthday party. They promised a lot when I booked my party and delivered very little. After the way we were treated there was no way I was taking my group to Onyx afterwards. I didn't get my seperate line for my guests, they took our hookahs away after only 2 hours, the bouncer and promoter were both rude arrogant jack asses (you would have thought this was the only club in Philly), that line to get in is bull, they way they kept raising the price to get in is bull, the fact that I booked a party in the Hookah Lounge but upon arrival that room wasn't even open is bull. The fact that no one except Lucky seemed to know what the hell was going on is pure bull. Roxxy I thought you were in business to make money, well customer satisfaction gets you paid! They would have made much more money from me and my group if they delivered on at least some of thier promises and treated patrons like they actually wanted thier business. read more

My friend reserved a VIP spot at the Roxxy for her birthday. She was told that her party,if more than 15 pol, would be free. When we arrived, the girls at the front were very nice. When we asked about the reservation they brought down their manager, Kelly, who my friend had been communicating with back and forth about this event. Kelly was unbelievably rude to all of us. She made all of us pay $20 to get in regardless of what she told my friend. When we mentioned the free cover, she told us that she never said that and to top it off we never got it in writing. The other lady who handled parties was a lot nicer and was explaining to us what was going on and really made up for the nasty disposition and the stick up Kelly's ass. So beside the $600 VIP charge, she wanted all of my friend's guests to pay an additonal $20. We decided not to do the VIP, but to top it off, we didn't get our $100 deposit back. VIP in NYC is way better than Roxxy. The club itself was very fun! The music was never dull. We stayed mostly on the Hip Hop floor and they had a healthy mix old school and new school. The reggae floor was dead. The drink prices were EXPENSIVE for small plastic cups, they weren't even the size of a SOLO cup.
