So simple and adorned with raw mushrooms, picked radish, squash, beets, apples, seeds, olives, fried bread, and of course, foie gras! It was so good for two and I linger for it to this day. It turns out that everyone enjoyed eating here more than anyplace else on the visit to Strasbourg, including a couple of Michelin-star stops. The burger (topped with ham and cheese) was juicy, well-seasoned and delicious. It was served with very good fries and a fresh green salad. The steak tartare, served on top of crispy hash-brown potatoes, was met with high praise. In addition to main courses, the restaurant has a showcase of beautiful desserts. Due to time constraints, we did not stay for dessert. Service here is excellent. The food came out quickly, and the servers were extremely attentive. When we were ready to leave, they were quick with the bill. They seemed to understand that you may have limited time, so everything moved at a relatively fast pace.

The second time, half the party had la tete de veau. My uncle said it was the best he'd ever had. One person had the gratinee with jambon, which was to die for. Their crispy duck-fat potatoes are delightful. The staff were friendly and welcoming with a leisurely pace that fit our vacation pace. I would definitely make this a regular.

That being said, this place is overall relaxed - my GF and I stopped there on our biking trip across Alsace and asked if they had any spots on the terrace. We were welcomed right away and, after taking a sit were blown away by the quality. First - the wines. Their crémant was excellent, just as their pinot noir. Unsurprising in the least, given that Ammerschwihr is one of the wine capitals of Alsace and the wine comes from the independent winemaker right across the road. And while you are at the entry wines, you are getting as well a "mise-en-bouche" - a small, elaborate snack for you to try to guess the ingredients and wake up your sense of taste. Second, the appetizer and the main dish. Their roasted tomato soup with ricotta was out of this world - absolutely excellent! Similarly, to the roasted neck of Black Iberico pork. A steamed selection of vegetables and baked potatoes as a side were a great touch. Beware however - if you are a vegetarian, you will have a right for a dish of vegetables and potatoes, but no dish for you on the menu, which is unfortunate. Finally, desert and coffee. The deserts are AMAZING. Their coffee machine as well. A baba au rum - a French classic - came with three different supplements and a shot of high-quality rum. Holy crap, was it good. Same thing could be said about the Irish Coffee my GF ordered. This place is not cheap, but it is excellent! Can but recommend!

The history of There usually comes a time when we are visiting Europe (43 trips) when we get a yearning for something other than EU food, good as it is. When this urge hits, we have found these escapes: Chinese restaurants, a hamburger at the Holiday Inn Luxembourg, Blimpy's, and the Courte Paille chain in France. So, a couple times I have escaped EU cuisine for a day at the Chinese restaurant in Melk (from the Abbey, walk thru the town square, take the first right, and its on the corner of whatever street that is- and the road along the Danube). Decent Chinese food (clue: note the number of Orientals eating here ), decent service, and for EU, relatively low prices. Au Lion d'Or opened in 1759A.D. and is still going in the same building run by the same family today.

Food is exceptional. Yeah, I have some moral qualms about foie gras...but the creamy, velvety, goose butter scraped over some nicely charred bread is a dish one must try here. My son ordered a ham hock dish--amazed to have something people at home use to flavor greens made into a signature-level dish...falling off the bone, tender as can be, perfectly seasoned. I had the baeckoffe (like a casserole), which was also delectable, but I remain envious of that ham! Ambience is beautiful. The interior has an old world, classic feel. Outside is the usual European patio right next the the bustling sidewalk...the essence of relaxation. Service is fantastic. Helpful and knowledgeable. When I make it back to Colmar, I'll be making another visit.

At night, Le Moreote is like a culinary superhero transforming from mild mannered simple fare to serious gastronomy using local produce prepared by a chef with serious chops. Catherine handles the front of house with care and professionalism. Intimate and warm, the decor is charming and simple. Formerly a flower shop, the location has been lovingly renovated by the two of them one square foot at a time. We've been on both of our trips to Alsace and love their food and hospitality. Best way to dine: reserve your seats and ask Pascal to cook for you -- and they'll entertain you with a "menu surprise" prepared just for you with perfectly paired wines. Bon Appetit!

We liked the food so much we had dinner there the following night (we normally don't repeat restaurants while on vacation AND we have a favorite place in Riquewihr). Our first meal, lunch was an omelet for my wife and the fixed menu of soup, munster tartiflette, and tiramisu. Everything was sooooo good. The tartiflette was the best we'd ever had. Thus, we decided to do dinner there the next evening. We both opted for the munster tartiflette menu; dessert changed to apple tart or red currant tart. Everything was once again outstanding. I'm so glad we found this place. It is, for sure, one of the places we'll definitely return to in southern Alsace!
