Just moved here for work and had issues with my truck, called every place in Carlsbad, NM and every shop told me 2 weeks to look at my truck. Caveman Auto informed me maybe he could look at in a couple days and it was Thursday. Dropped off the truck Thursday afternoon @ 6 pm with tow truck, surprisingly I get a call from Caveman Auto @10 am on Saturday that my truck was fixed and for a great price. I cannot say enough about how much they helped me out! If your in Carlsbad, NM I would definitely recommend Caveman Auto Repair. There is nothing like being at the mercy of an auto repair shop, literally everyone was like your screwed and were not trying to help me out what so ever. So to have someone actually sympathize with my concerns and get me back up and running that fast was very impressive!! read more

Had my truck in for two days just for them to reset the computer and say my truck is fixed. Had trouble starting it and they didn't take the time to find what it was. I took it home the next day and it wouldn't start up. Oh and they also charged me $120 for that which is bullshit. I fixed my truck myself long story short and I'm no mechanic my any means. Do not come here y'all just don't do it. They take shortcuts and you'll be out more money than you need. This place sucks read more

Mike saved our trip. We called him late in the day and asked if we could head on over. He said sure. Here is the thing, we have an old truck while what we needed was simple we were not confident we could do it without all our tools. We are so very thankful he decided to take us as the repair was a little more complicated due to the age of the truck and older/aged parts. Mike was creative and found a solution to get everything back together for us. I noticed some of the other comments on Yelp and feel like people did not focus on the outcome and getting their problem fixed and instead on things that matter less. I asked if they can check out my truck and neither of the two guys that were in there showed any interest in providing me with their service. I was so thoroughly impressed with the friendless, quality, and fairness I received from Mike at Caveman Auto when I was stuck in Carlsbad on a weekend. My car overheated just outside Carlsbad after a long drive from Albuquerque late on a Friday. I showed up at Caveman early on a Saturday looking for some emergency help, and Mike was happy to help. He spent hours trying to diagnose the problem, including changing the thermostat and working hard to save me money by saving the coolant during the change. When the initial repairs didn't work, he continued diagnosing the issue, even offering to loan me his car for the weekend so he could work on it more Monday. I ended up spending probably five hours at his shop, yet he only charged 2 hours of labor and only the parts he actually used. Super up front and super fair, what a great experience, given the circumstances. read more

I can't say enough good things about this business. 500 miles from home, pulling a travel trailer, it's a Saturday, check engine light is flashing, and my car is clearly not happy. I whip into an Advance Auto Parts in Carlsbad to get engine diagnosis codes and ask for a recommendation for a good mechanic. The store clerk points across the street to Caveman, tells me they're good, and are open on Saturdays. So off I go. I find Mike and Brandon in the office, they tell me they're about done for the day, but will see if they can help. After giving them the diagnostic code, and then running more diagnostics, and then they tell me its a misfire on one cylinder that could be caused by anyone of about different 20 things, but that ignition coil failures are common on Nissans. And of course it's the one cylinder that's the most difficult to get to...have to remove the entire intake manifold to get at it. I get an estimate, give the thumbs up, and 90 minutes later I'm rolling again, diagnosis correct, problem solved (hopefully). Great mechanic and all around good caveman! read more

Extra repairs that I would like to have been told about before being charged. Replaced the engine but didn't install mounts, which surprised all other mechanics I've taken the car to. I remember them mentioning the mounts needed replacing, and with all the surprise, yet necessary extras, I figured that should have been done as well. Also, caused a bit of damage to the shifter cable and had to put in extra to get it repaired. read more
