This was our first time dining at this Filipino restaurant, and we really enjoyed it! The food is freshly made, which means it takes a little longer to come out, but it's worth the wait. I've tried most of the Filipino restaurants in Carson, but I can say the quality here is definitely good. The portions are generous, and everything we ordered tasted fresh and flavorful. My husband enjoyed his avocado shake, while I had the bangus with garlic rice and he had the pork sisig with garlic rice. We also ordered a sotanghon soup, which was delicious. Such a great local spot for Filipino food favorites. Every time I've visited to pick up food to-go or dine-in it's always such a lively environment from a karaoke night to folks holding their birthday parties here. It all goes to show that Cavitena is THE spot for good food and fun! I love their fried lumpia and fishballs. Service is always so friendly. Had to update this since my original review in 2021 because we had a recent dine in experience at their new spacious location. We were welcomed to sit anywhere in the restaurant and chose our seats. It was a wonky start. We were given menus with a QR code. Our internet connection was slow and it took some time for the menus to load. The gal working wasn't sure about the wifi password but we got connected and were able to order finally. I like to get Filipino breakfast which is the garlic fried rice, tocino (pork), and I ask for scrambled eggs instead of over easy/hard. Good except the tocino was a bit heavy on the red food coloring. Hubby got delish beef steak. I tried it and liked it but, man that dish is greasy! Now the adobo fried rice is a nice surprise! This plate had nice, generous chunks of pork adobo in it! So good! I reference 2 other local competitors that tend to put adobo protein in a processor or whatever to chop it up and put in their fried rice. Not Cavitena! For 18 bucks in February 2024, the adobo fried rice lasted a couple of days between the hubby and I. (Well mostly me eating it. Lol!) On a cold weekend day, I chose just hot water and lemon to drink. Hubby got pineapple juice which he liked a lot and a water. It's a cool vibe at Cavitena. There was a band that came into set up for the evening. At 8pm they have live music as well as a bar with a $5 cover charge. Other times, they have karaoke. The gal working was nice, attentive, and friendly. We had a conversation w/her in Spanish. I usually don't comment on restrooms but, theirs is very nice, clean, candlelit, with great lighting. Back in 2021 when Cavitena was situated in their smaller location , it was their sign board advertising filipino breakfast specials ( longsilog , tapsilog ) that caught my eye . I had to check them out . Since then, I have been back for lunch (turo-turo style ) & specifically the halo halo ! So thrilled to get cravings gratified ! Now at a much spacious location , I have enjoyed their live bands , dancing & karaoke on Saturday nights. Filipino hospitality shines here - one which is world renowned . Fun loving & extra friendly people , one can feel right at home . I have to admit that it is still their Halo halo special that draws me here , especially during this Summer's heatwave . 3.5 stars. I expected more from this place since there were quite a bit of good reviews. My brother was visiting from Berlin so we came here to pick up a number of dishes to have at home. My main tip: Order fresh items from the menu instead of what they have in the turo-turo section. The food that was ready didn't look great and was clearly sitting there for some time. The dishes we did order fresh - lechon kawali, vegetable lumpia, fried daing - were all great. We ordered sisig too but it's not great in my opinion. Big Boi in Sawtelle does that much better. I didn't even wanna go. It was late, I was a little tired, but baby cuzzo and friends really pushed for comin' through for a nightcap. They twisted my arm - hard enough that I even ended up driving some of them (the rest took a ride share since they've already had a bit to drink.) They had a little over an hour left before closing, so it made sense that only a couple of tables were occupied. We found a table for my party of 8 immediately. And since we already had dinner, we decided on a couple of small bites and close the night off with a couple of buckets of beer. What caught my attention almost immediately was the vocalist and his guitarist. What better enhanced their talent was their equipment - the acoustics were nearly perfect. Boy, they were a good pair! The food, however, wasn't so stellar. The turon needed a bit more sweet and the calamari was slightly overcooked, over breaded and under seasoned. FOOD: 3. Based on the turon and the calamari. They do need work. SERVICE: 5. Servers were friendly and engaging given they're close to closing time. VALUE: 3. Fair for what you get. PARKING: Shared with other lots. Since we came through late, it wasn't an issue. I haven't experienced a lunch or dinner rush, so I'd suggest to plan accordingly. Overall: 3.75. We were told the food wasn't that great (before we even got there - and they were right) but if you don't come for the food, come for the drinks and entertainment. Those are worth the trek. From turo-turo to now a full on restaurant! Cavitena recently re-opened in the same plaza but in a larger space. Their new space is about 3 times larger than their previous spot and now includes a bar & mini karaoke stage with full screen. We first visited during their grand opening weekend but alas they put a sign on the door on Sunday that they would be opening at 3pm that day. We came at lunch and ended up leaving. We tried again the following Sunday for lunch. At first we were worried that they were once again closed as it was fairly dark and no one was attending at the front. There was a mini bell at the bar area which I rang and soon someone came out to give us menus. My mom had looked at the menu ahead and we planned to get the lunch specials that were on the menu the week before. It was a little bit of surprise they no longer offered it. I also noticed some prices had gone up from the previous menu posted 6 days ago. (Tip: make sure to check out the menu as their prices do seem to change) We opted to get from the all day breakfast menu and got Daingsilog and Lumpiasilog; both $11 as well as their Kare Kare for $22. Breakfast items come with garlic rice, 2 eggs and vinegar soy dip. The breakfast items were great! I really enjoyed the Lumpiasilog which came with 12 pieces of chicken egg rolls. The lumpia was really crispy and tasty! I though this was well worth the $11. The Kare Kare was also pretty good. I did think it was a little pricey at $22 and was a little disappointed that there was not a lot of sauce. I love Kare Kare peanut sauce over rice and unfortunately they didn't have much sauce in this dish. It was still good in flavor though. I felt the lumpia was definitely the star of our visit here. Overall food was good and the lunch was nice. It was a bit quiet at lunch (just us and 2 other customers) but I can almost picture this place at karaoke time being busy. read more

First time here, and it was fine. A little salty for me, and possibly they use MSG. The lady who helped was nice, and informative of the Happy Hour and food served. I will be back, and will try other dishes. I ordered the fried rice, and Tinola. Enjoyed the bok choy in it as well, and just added more water to the broth. Great to grab a quick bite or simple dine in. FOOD: Breakfast Combo - Tocino, Egg, and Rice (Recommend) Breakfast of champions! Sweetly served tocino with two eggs and rice. A little veggie touch with a slice of cucumber and tomato which would mix well with some fish sauce. Overall, a pretty fulfilling order. Chicken Adobo (Recommend) Pretty good. I myself cook a pretty mean adobo but this is pretty good. It is sauced very well but a bit oily for my taste, be sure to chill and remove that. Whenever I visit my family in the South Bay Area, we come here for a night of singing and dancing. I love how Filipinos come together and enjoy entertaining each other. Everyone from the DJ to the attentive servers made our dining experience fun and vibrant. DJ Katsi and Kikay Juvz were awesome! My family and I usually order pancit, lumpiang Shanghai, Kaldereta, grilled bangus, Tortang eggplant, crispy pata, and other dishes. They're all pretty good and plentiful. It's kind of dark in there, so it was a challenge taking good food footage (foodage? Hehe). It's located in a small strip mall with ample free parking. Karaoke nights are usually on Fridays and Saturdays unless there's a special performance. TIP: I highly recommend to call first before going there especially if you plan on bringing a big group because sometimes they close the whole restaurant for private events. The food is ok. not that savoury for a restaurant. They always book big events but not enough manpower. twice I attended a show and they only have 2-3 servers. first incident, we got our order really late , show was almost over. We went on a Friday for a live music event. It was fun! The food and service were amazing! We had the tokwa't baboy, beef kaldereta, garlic fried rice, fried chicken, ensaladang talong, and pork sisig. Everything tasted great! I am glad that we will not have to drive to Cerritos just to have some delicious food in a nice, restaurant setting. The reason for the 4-star is their menu included a Sunday breakfast buffet and we went on 11/19/23 to try it but staff said it was not available. I asked when will it be available and he mentioned it might be back around February 2024. Nevertheless, we just sat down and ordered breakfast that day. I hope that if they do not offer the Sunday breakfast buffet for now, they should remove it from the menu and not advertise it. Our family decided to go here after having our Father's Day dinner at the Boathouse at the Bay. Looking for a Filipino Bistro just to end our day. First....the host/owner was very welcoming. We've tried other places but this one is really good. The crispy Pata is crunchy yet very juicy and well marinated. The best part is the live band. The Optimum Groove is the best Filipino band we've watched. Another note in judging this place ... rest rooms are really clean. We are impressed. Our server Judith made sure we are always attended. Bumping up a star for friendly service. I hadn't had Filipino food in several years, so to my delight, I found Caviteña close to home. Self-proclaimed as the "first Filipino restaurant in Lomita," I called in to order some food before I headed out to pick up. The food wasn't ready when I arrived, but it wasn't a problem. I ordered sisig and halo-halo, as well as added some lechon kawali. Total came out to $42, which is quite steep for only three dishes. But portions were large and sure to feed an army. The verdict? Hit-or-miss. The halo-halo was tasty, especially with the generous ube ice cream top and candies inside. The kawali lechon was succulent, with thick, crackling skin and the incredible smell of oregano. However, the sisig wasn't my thing: I'm aware that it's supposed to be greasy, but I found it WAY TOO greasy-- not enough rice could soak up the shear amount of oil in it. I could not finish it-- not my favorite of the trio. I appreciate having a Filipino restaurant close to home, but I think for the price and the quality of the food (especially the sisig), I would hesitate to try it again. Again, the staff is friendly, as it appears to be a family-run business, so I'd say give it a go, if you're craving Filipino food in the South Bay. It does the trick! read more

I ordered from here on uber eats this afternoon. I have tried their food before and it was good and that's why I ordered again. Today, I was disappointed. I ordered the tocino breakfast which comes with garlic rice, veggies and one sunny side up egg. The garlic rice wasn't very tasty. It was just regular rice topped with crunchy garlic. So basically there wasn't really a taste. The tocino, which had lettuce under it and under that, was heaps of oil. I also ordered the pork adobo and it was good, but I hate how it doesn't come with rice. Do entrees not come with rice? Most of the restaurants give you rice when you order an entree. Especially in a Filipino restaurant. So I ordered also a side of rice, just incase it didn't, and they forgot that in my order. About 10 minutes in, another patron pointed out to the one server we had been waiting AND THEN AND ONLY THEN, we were greeted. Said we would be helped shortly but then never came back. We left after waiting another 10 minutes. If you are craving Pilipino food, the drive to Carson from this location is shorter than waiting 20 minutes for someone to notice you at this place. The Turo-Turo, when they started may have been at a small restaurant but compensates with the food that hits the spot. It wasn't greasy nor salty. Hubby like, specially, the pork Sinigang. He doesn't normally eat or grave Filipino food unless we r at a Family Function. The restaurant expanded to a pretty n nice restaurant with good ambiance. Clean, descent with a dance floor including DJ that hosts Karaoke, plays great songs n dance music. On June 10th, The restaurant hosted my daughter's graduation with a very nice buffet set up in her high school color matching the table clothes n balloons. This review is for the NEW Cavetiña (located across the parking lot from the old location). This review is also (mostly for) the service received while dining there. We walked in and was immediately greeted by a nice young man. While we were waiting for our order, a nice gentleman welcomed us and started talking to us. Come to find out, he is the owner- walking around greeting and welcoming everyone. It's really a nice touch for any service based business to get to know the one responsible for the place. As a customer and a former restaurant owner- I believe it is more important to have good food and great service than the other way around. We really appreciated the owner, Boots for taking the time to welcome us. His servers and hostess were all so pleasant. Our food arrived. Perfect temperature and really delicious! We ordered Turon and did not disappoint! I came in 15 minutes prior to closing and they accommodated me ordering turon. No issues at all. They cooked some right away so we got our order fresh and hot. The banana they used was so sweet. Real chunky banana and some jackfruit. I enjoyed it. Not too sweet but not lacking flavor. Just right. Talked to the owner and told me that they are going to relocate to a bigger place across the building. Same plaza but bigger space to accommodate more people. This is something that we will be looking forward to. So FYI, the next three to four months, they'll be on a bigger, better, sit down restaurant.
