I love second hand, salvage, and recycling stores, and Finger Lakes ReUse is no exception. From architectural bits to electronics, they have just about everything other than clothes and food. (really, who would want recycled food?) I went home with some really awesome blacksmithing tools for not a lot of coin and I'm pretty sure that my dad is going back to get a sick deal on a used computer. This place does not take care of their employees. They have one person outside helping take in donations when it's freezing cold right now, and they don't even give him a space heater or any kind of proper heating. It's absolutely unacceptable to treat people like that. There's no way I could support a store that can't even manage to treat their employees like people. It's absolutely disgusting. read more

CLOTHING SECTION Prices: You'll be hard pressed to find better thrift store prices in Ithaca. And it's great to know that your money goes to a good cause: keeping money and resources local. Money spent at Trader K's, Thrifty Shopper, or Salvation Army certainly doesn't go to such good purposes! My husband and I have shopped both locations. The stores and staff are nice enough, the inventory is varied enough, but the pricing is ridiculous. The reuse stores in Buffalo NY have way better inventory, stores etc and the prices are way cheaper. The price points are actually conducive to the encouragement of recycling and reusing. Some of the prices are what you would pay for new products. That makes no sense?! My hubs and I have also donated here before, and they've turned around and sold our cheaply made furniture for 3 times what it cost us to make it. My husband is quite handy, but still not worth it. Go somewhere else and get a fairer deal. read more

A larger variety of items ranging from dishes., Old radios, washer, kitchen counters, to furnitures!! I bought a lot of nice dishes here together with a corner study desk! The price are extremely reasonable and perhaps I should call it a deal! Most of the second hand items are in great condition! They offer delivery service starting from $25+. Price drops every month if the item is not sold by then. Will keep an eye here before visiting furniture stores if I need more furnitures or household items! It would be pretty awesome and I would go there MUCH more often if they had a place in downtown or Collegetown--I don't drive and don't want to shop at the mall so I never make it to the mall(s). I was returning an item the other day because it didn't work on my computer and I heard the woman at the cashier, apparently new, tell her supervisor, right in front of me, "it's not the first time she returned an item" looking up at my account on her computer - I had a bit of credit etc., (I had to return a computer once) - as though I was abusing the return policy. Needless to say, I thought it was quite rude of her to talk the way she did about me in front of me. I wonder if she does the same to the other customers, or whether I looked suspicious to her for some reason. Who has time or energy and take pervert joy out of trying and purposefully hurting their business by driving all the way from the other side of town just to return a $7 item, within 7 days of buying it, as it is specified in the return policy, just because? Perhaps she's willing to pay for the gas and my time and energy wasted. I have to say about ReUse Center: When their items works, it's great. What a deal. But if not, it's a bit of a hassle - and, as you can see, if you don't fit into a category of certain respectability in the eyes of these people, you are regularly affronted by disrespectful behaviors of the employees or volunteers, who knows (until they come to realize that 1. you write reviews online 2. you are a regular). Of course these people have no idea that I use their store not only because I'm poor - like everybody else? - but also because I believe in recycling and not wasting and am interested in a better steward of the planet and sometimes I even give my time to pick up litters in my neighborhood. But I guess I just don't look it for them. It seems as though some of the people know my face by now, and they deal with me more carefully; but wow, I have to be taking my time like this, just so that I finally receive a semblance of courtesy. There are some genuinely nice people at the store, but it's unfortunate that they probably don't see what I see in the same [r*d*eck] people I'm talking about. They seem pretty appalled about what I do here. Well, all the better. I'm not going to be fuzz up my reality just because some people have starkly different attitudes depending whom they are talking to. I am not going to be muted and I just say this is unacceptable. This 2 star review is not based on the employees or the location which are quite good. This is based on the pricing of goods that at times are more expensive than new box store items. I do appreciate and practice the art of recycling in as many ways as possible. But alas, I feel the store used to support a broader base of the low-income spectrum . Prices have consistently climbed in the last 2 years and items such as pressure cookers that are missing pieces, irons, and other household items are out competed by Amazon (used items). Yes, I still do find those killer deals, and I will still intermittently shop there. read more

went in to day to buy and when i went to cash out the girl did not know her job.confused on entering names in cpu.finaly got thru that then did not give the discounts advertised this all took about five mins at regester she then asks if i have a mask i can wear i say i do buy its not required she sayes it is so i put it on .i leave and call maneger ask if its required she sayes no its not said sorry for the employees lack of training note she was masked and behind a plastic screen from celing to about 8 inches from counter people need to know covi is no excuse to be an ass. read more

They used to be a great place for used items of all kinds, but for some reason are terribly overpriced now. Strange since they just got a huge grant to build a bigger store. They are great if you need a laptop or wall wart power supply right away, but you can get a new one for less if you order online. read more

The new store is clean, well lit, and spacious. I have never had a bad experience with any of the team members at either store. And no problem with a return. I feel the prices are very reasonable also. I have found many treasures at both locations ! They beat the price of new items for almost everything I have found. I love the concept of the reuse stores! I'd much rather buy something that has been gently used and priced low than buy something brand new and mass produced by Wal-Mart. It is much less wasteful. I have purchased cooking items ($12 for a large stock pot), picture frames (an assortment for $.50 to $1 each), camera lenses ($25 each), and furniture ($25 to $125). If you sign up to be a super reuser, you get 10% off every purchase, and they often have items discounted from 25-75%. They carry just about everything except clothes. I recommend the reuse store for smaller buys---like cookware, small appliances, cleaning supplies, sports equipment, etc. Furniture is really hit or miss if you're picky and looking for a particular style like me. I've found some great pieces (which you can even have delivered for a small fee), but most of their couches and chairs are absolutely hideous---think 70s floral-patterned, stained, & ripped arm chairs that have been sitting in somebody's musty barn for a couple decades *cringe*. They do have a large selection of practical office furniture and filing cabinets though, and they also sell building materials and tools. Anyway, the reuse store is amazing. I love it, and by shopping there, you can do your part to prevent wastefulness. So the next time you need something, try to find it at one of the reuse stores. Amazing what you can find here! Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Admittedly, sometimes prices are a little high on a few things, but there are always sales (25%, 50%, & 75% off, depending on the color of the price sticker). And other times, prices are quite low. I'm a frequent shopper at salvage stores in Ithaca, Rochester and Syracuse, and this place is among the best. I'm most interested in architectural pieces (doors, windows, etc), but always manage to find something I really need. OK, I don't really need, but I want. The turnover of inventory keeps me coming back weekly. Their staff is incredibly helpful and the prices are far lower than you'd find for similar items (e.g. antique dutch doors) in the big city. The fact that they're a non profit getting things out of landfills is icing on the cake. I highly recommend this store. read more

I love the idea of recycling, reuse & the overall theoretical concept of the Fingerlakes Reuse Center. However............ while I have occasionally found some really great deals, overall I feel the prices are WAY too high. Selling used items for new [and, yes, sometimes higher] prices seems to defeat the purpose. And, they will only rarely negotiate on prices. If I find an item that I want & the price is too high here, I would certainly go out & buy it new instead. read more
