Cedar Creek Gallery is located in Creedmoor, NC. It is a co-op of artists; some create their work on the grounds, and others have their items available for sale. It is locally owned and was founded in 1968, when Sid and Pat Oakley converted a former tobacco field into the site. It started small with one building and has since grown over time to many more. Two studios are used for glassblowing, and five studios are for pottery, including a kiln. The gallery is 4,000 Square feet, so there is a lot to see! When you come here, you will pick up on the creative vibe and community that develops as artists support each other. The location is pretty great too as you are away from the hustle and bustle and can just relax in nature whether you are strolling through the garden or just walking to the front door of the gallery. Sometimes when you visit, you can watch the artists work as they create their masterpieces of pottery or glass. The studios allow the public to watch at a safe distance. I like the variety of genres here, as you will find glass, wood, pottery, metal, jewelry, felt and more. Many events and festivals happen throughout the year. The National Tea Pot Show is currently going on through the summer, and it happens once every three years, so it is worth checking out. Pottery and Glass Festivals happen at other times of the year. The Cupful Exhibit is another favorite, featuring creatively designed homemade mugs. The Glass Egg Festival is unique in that the 55 blown-glass, unique eggs are auctioned each year for charity. The employees are always friendly when I've been here to browse or shop, and they help you find what you are looking for. They have a rewards program where, after you spend a certain amount, you get a discount and 20% off an item in your birthday month. What a terrific little jewel for North Carolina and the world! This pretty and welcoming gallery is in a quiet patch of woods under a half hour from Raleigh. There are dozens and dozens of artists and artisans whose work you can buy, sculptors, glass blowers, wood workers, jewelry makers, and much more. It's sneakily larger than you expect from the outside, and there are hidden alcoves with more goodies, in addition to a small but lovely Museum of American Pottery. Works that are made in North Carolina are expressly identified, but there is also art from all over, at prices that seemed very fair to me. I couldn't help myself, I left with two pots and a vase! They were cheerfully and expertly packed up so that I could carry them on the plane, and they arrived in one piece, though they could have easily shipped them too. This place is kinda in the woods. Locals know where it is. For first time visitors, use a GPS or yelp directions. It is a lovely drive with some farmland right on the Raleigh suburb doorstep. Imagine that! The pottery has a lovey family provenance. At one time, the gallery seemed to be a bit lost, stuck in the groove of generations of "this is the way you do it" and "what do we show next?" and probably there were a few pointed conversations about the overall direction of the gallery. I am glad they sorted it out, the quality of the offerings have both a traditional and modern feel. They have not ignored their core beliefs (POTTERY) and have augmented with an array of interesting items including jewelry and other things like Lawn Art and Glass. This location is a bit out there but it's worth the trip if you are into pottery, jewelry, art and plants. They have a small NC pottery museum and a regular selection of art and jewelry from their suppliers. Throughout the year they will also have special events like glass-blowing demonstrations and special exhibits (teapots, mugs, etc.). They also have plants outside that you can purchase. During winter they usually have a fireplace going and they usually have a few cookies/snacks available. A great place to purchase gifts for yourself or for others. A terrific afternoon out with my bride while out tooling about in the little yellow car included an off the beaten path stop at Cedar Creek Gallery. It's really not hard to find, it's just not on a main road. I've been in Creedmoor for more than six years and I'm surprised this was the first time I stopped. Being a hobbyist this was a fun visit to see pieces of woodwork that I like to create myself, from wine bottle stoppers to pens to business card holders, tables and toy trains. There is something for everyone here, and if you go out back, Matt might call you up near the kilns to show a little glass blowing. I'm really not into the pottery or welded sculptures, although some of those sculptures were really REALLY fun to see. There's a vast variety of affordable to "must really WANT to GOT to HAFTA have to part with that kind of money!" gifts and general merchandise - oh, and handmade, not manufactured in a sweatshop out of the country. My aunt has been going to this place every year for gifts. She just had to take me to see it while I was in the area. The drive in the country is pleasant, the woods surrounding the gallery is beautiful and decorated with sculptures, and there are even annual and perennial plants for sale. The gallery was going to have a special event with artist demonstrations a couple of weeks after my visit, including an Easter egg hunt for some very special and incredibly colorful glass eggs. Oh, I wish I could be there for that! Many of the artists represented in the Cedar Creek Gallery are based in North Carolina, but I also recognized a few tiles from the Motawi Tile Works in Ann Arbor, MI. The media include ceramics and glass, but also wood, metal and jewelry. There were even some textile items like colorful knit socks, zipper pouches and tote bags. There is something for nearly every price range. The vast majority of items are priced from $20 to $100, so they are actually quite affordable for something that is individually made with great care. I noticed that the ceramic items range from muddy earth tones to brightly colored. So there is something for every type of taste. They have a frequent buyer club that costs you nothing. You simply have them record the prices of everything that you buy. After you purchase 5 items, I think it was, you receive a gift certificate for a percentage of your purchases that can be used on the next visit. With so many beautiful and even useful items, you can bet I want to go back there. Watch your step. The floor is a little uneven in places, and you might have to take one or two steps up or down as you navigate the store. But my uncle who walks with a cane didn't seem to have too much trouble. read more

Wow! I came here recently for their fall open house with my husband. It was such a cool experience and I recommend it most highly! When we were there for the event, they had the glassblowing studio open and we stood and watched the glass pumpkins in progress for a long time. As someone with no artistic experience, it was FASCINATING!! They also had pottery of various forms and jewelry making demos. We shopped the store and came home with a lovely glass pumpkin that is the focal point of our fall decor. read more

What a beautiful and peaceful spot. When you are yearning for a short ride out of town on a gorgeous day, think about driving out to Cedar Creek gallery. The drive is not bad at all and there are signs leading the way once you turn off 98. A huge selection of pottery, jewelry, glass, and other art that is local to this area and North Carolina. They do beautiful work onsite as well and often have really fun events. I attended the Spring Festival last weekend and there were at least five artists doing demonstrations onsite. Blowing glass, making jewelry, pottery, wood pieces and even some metal working. It's a great place to find a unique, local gift that someone is sure to treasure. read more

One of the top five fine art and fine craft galleries in North Carolina. Established by Sid Oakley, the fine traditions are being carried on now by his daughter, Lisa. Sid pioneered the development of crystalline glazes for fine art pottery. He was a funny, gentle, extreemly talented and generous individual. Sid established opportunities for resident artists on the picturesque grounds, and visitors may not only purchase fine art, but watch some of the artists who are producing it. Sid's generosity was astonishing. Once two ladies were shopping in the gallery and admiring the beautiful, (and expensive) crystalline for which the gallery was noted. One said to the other, "One day, I am going to have something as beautiful as that in my home." Sid came over, took the piece down from the shelf and said :"I'm Sid Oakley, and I want you to have this as a gift from me." Lisa Oakley is a glass artist, and is continuing and improving on the traditions at Cedar Creek. read more

Drove an hour to check it out. Totally worth it. I could hang out next to that beautiful fireplace for hours. They should add a coffee shop. Actually, I bet they would have given me a cup of coffee if I asked for it. The customer service was that good. I started my new metal flowers collection today. Can't wait to go back. read more

Myself and a couple of friends visited this place after hearing about their "CUPful: Celebrating the Daily Ritual" exhibit on Facebook. Totally worth the drive from UNC! Definitely try and go on a day with nice weather-- the grounds are just as interesting as the gallery! It is like walking through an enchanted forest, with garden sculptures, artist studios, and a variety of plants/landscaping. What I also loved about Cedar Creek is its affordability. There is expensive fine art of course, but there is also jewelry, prints, and plants for sale that a college student can afford! The gallery is unassuming and unpretentious. My only complaint is about the CUPful exhibit in particular. There were so many beautiful cups and coffee mugs, but not a lot of information about the artists behind them! It would have been nice to know the context in which in the cups were created. read more

My husband and I were looking for a little drive to get out of SE Raleigh and this was absolutely perfect! We love pottery and blown glass, so this place was heaven! A huge place with such an incredible variety of beautiful things. If you know pottery and blown glass, you know it's not cheap but a beautiful investment as each piece is handmade and unique. We bought an incredible vase made by one of the owners, a glass blown ball and a beautiful wooden box. The staff is very friendly.
