What a wonderful experience for me and my girls. Such a beautiful ride to the top of one of the Sandia Peaks. Our weather was perfect. The horses were all very gentle, and I had no anxiety with getting on the big fella. Our guide, Donald was so funny, and kept the 2-hr ride light and entertaining. We saw deer, and Donald said he rarely sees them on the rides. It was worth every penny. If you have young daughters, this is a trip of a lifetime for them. Me too. read more

My fiancee and I rode horses with Donald for 2hrs on an amazing trail with a panoramic view atop of a mountain. She had zero riding experience prior to this but very comfortably Donald communicated how-to's clearly. Very scenic-y (ha) throughout the trail. Aside from the great views, in terms of wild life we were fortunate enough to see a beautiful dark mule buck along the way! Not uncommon for this area I imagine. He's a very knowledgable tour guide and treated us with respect. 10/10 I would recommend coming here. read more

You can stay here at a cute cottage to rent which I didn't end up going for, but I think it could be sweet if you had more than just two ppl. It looks like a whole house. plus a full kitchen in case you're so strapped you want to eat macaroni all vacation or something. We went for the horseback riding and took a 2 hour trail ride to a nice view. perfect for beginners. Donald was a great guide. You def have to drive here as it is a bit outside of Alby proper. Took some of out-of-town guests to Cedar Crest Stables for a two hour mountain horseback adventure with Donald and his big, gentle horses. Beautiful ride through scrub oak, pinon and ponderosa pine. Lots of wildflowers in the understory and New Mexico blue skies overhead. I've been on horseback a few times, and Donald's pre-ride safety talk was complete and helped give all the riders confidence to get in the saddle. The two hour ride was just the right amount of time for those of us who don't get to ride very often. My eleven year old niece will remember this wonderful and engaging horseback ride for the rest of her life! read more

For my 100th Yelp review what better way to do so then on a 5 star rating! This 2-hr adventure my fiancée and I took with Big Donald at the ranch was amazing. We had just recently moved here to ABQ from San Diego and were looking to take in the sights and culture. I called the number listed on the sight and quickly received a call back from Donald. He was able to get us in on a Sunday with another group for 2-hrs. Everything from the arrival, horses, ranch, and trek were above par! I would absolutely recommend this business for anyone in ABQ or visiting looking for a great way to get outdoors and experience the Sandia mountains/Cibola National Forest. This is a very nice Ranch the horses were beautiful and the guide was very thorough in his instructions before riding and during riding, The horses were very calm and the trail was very nice! The only draw back for our group is that the guide talked way to much during the ride we made too many stops so he could talk! My family greatly enjoyed the ride. I was unable to ride because I'm 6'9" and 270 lbs, but that is not unusual with trail riding. Most places don't allow over 250 lbs. Two of my kids and their Uncle took the ride this time. It was very affordable for a solid 2-hour ride, and owner/wrangler Donald doesn't start the clock until after everyone is saddled up and ready to go. And this after a very comprehensive safety/training briefing, as well. Children 15 and under must wear helmets, and that of course is a-okay with Daddy. The horses are well taken care of, and each have their own personality. The three tenderfoots couldn't stop talking about the ride the rest of the day. What a nice, lifetime memory. Be advised, you will be riding up to 7,000+ elevation, so consider at least a light jacket if riding in Spring or Fall. This outfit gets my highest recommendation, even though I didn't actually ride. Great time had my group! Donald was a great host with a pleasant sense of humor. The trail goes through beautiful terrain. We were educated on trees, flowers, mountains and sites. The horses were clean an well trained. I loved that we were taught how to lead the horses and then given the time to practice. This took away some of the nerves. They profess to be a overnight for your horses, Not really- you have to bucket your water, 150 feet from the nearest source. No hose's, Padocs not maintained with lots of manure and strange plants. read more

Used Cedar Crest Stables for horseback riding with my husband and stepdaughter. We had the best experience and weather too. The cost was very reasonable for an hour. Not to mention that our hour didn't start until after we had gone through safety and standard commands. After we were comfortable with our horses, we were off on the trail. It wasn't just a trail but a rugged, rocky and woody part of the national forest. The horses were great in maneuvering and climbing. They were very well trained and even my 11 year old daughter was able to give commands when her horse stopped to itch. What a great experience! read more

FANTASTIC! Total mood elevator. I should have been a Cowboy! We took a one hour trail ride today and it literally changed my life. The connection between horse and man is a powerful one. I felt transported to a safer, slower, happier place. Donald (and his wife) were superb hosts. Donald gave us a brief (15 minutes) but thorough overview of horse safety and basic commands. There were six of us, one couple, a father and young son, and a mother and young daughter. Then we loaded up and took the most amazing one hour ride up and down the surrounding canyons. We are beginner equestrians, but felt safe and in control at all times. My horse, Quanhah (named after a Comanche Chief) was enormous and had the most stunning grey blue coat I've ever seen. I wanted to take him home... unfortunately, he won't fit in a beachside apartment. All six horses were GREAT! Kind, gentle and responsive. Donald tells corny jokes that keep the mood light and he stops and take really really good pictures of us on horseback at the most beautiful spot on earth. I cannot recommend Cedar Crest Stables highly enough. The price is beyond fair ($35/hour). We will be back! Thank you, Donald and Family. G-d bless you all for doing such important work. read more

Called the stables and booked a party of 4 for four hours. Thought everything was settled, so I told the kids and everyone was excited to go and even though it was 9 days out, we were all looking forward to the experience and the waterfall. Then Donald called me back within the hour and stated there were no four hour trips that day and that he could tentatively plan a two hour trip that could turn into four hours. Ouch. That is a lot of money to pay for not knowing if you are actually going to get what you initially booked. We canceled and will be looking for a different stable. read more
