I've never had an appointment that was on time. Generally, they are 1/2 to 1 hour late every time.

Appointment times are a joke. They are clearly a suggestion. You're better off checking in before running your errands and returning an hour later to wait to be called in. 2 stars (instead of zero) because Dr Bishop is the best (I doubt he even knows how bad the timekeeping is). I do not recommend Cedar Eye Center. After sitting in the lobby for 30 minutes past my scheduled time, I had to ask the desk when they thought I would be seen. Turns out they didn't have the doctor scheduled for my appointment. It was two hours of my time out of a workday and they were flippant about the unconvinced. When I dropped off my companion for surgery, I was asked, as his ride home, for my phone number. I gave it to the receptionist at the front desk. She wrote the number down wrong, off by one digit. I was at home, waiting for the call to come get him. I received no call. He walked home from surgery. He walked into the apartment, hopping mad. He swore that the center had called me and left a message. I had nothing on my voice mail. When I called the center, I found out what happened. I do not consider this to be appropriate care. I would urge anyone going to the center to ask the receptionist to repeat the number for the ride. My number was not correctly noted and now two people are hopping mad. read more

I've been bringing my mom to this eye care center for three years. Most of the time the visits are good, but in the last three months, it has been very annoying to come here because they always run anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour behind on a scheduled appointment. My mom has dementia and it's very hard to keep her busy while waiting plus this is a ridiculous amount of time to wait to see the doctor. I recommend choosing a different place. read more

I had an eye issue over the weekend. Urgent care recommended I get in to see an ophthalmologist, so I made a call to a local Dr. here in Folsom, but could not be seen until Aug. 20th. Dr. Evans's office got me in immediately when I explained my situation. I very much appreciated his kind care, explanation of what was going on, and attentiveness. I feel Dr Norton (Mrs) missed a diagnosis of AMD Age related Macular Degeneration for two years. I'd been complaining of vision changes at visits only to get an adjusted script. Have just completed two cataract surgeries with Dr. Norton. I have no problems with the doctor or the surgery center where they was performed, however his office staff seems to experience an unusual amount of turnover which leads to many mistakes by inexperienced staff. At my first appt. the assistant did the wrong test which the doctor noted when he came in. For my follow up appointment after the surgery, they gave me the wrong time and then acted as if I should have known that the doctor would not be available. The staff were apologetic, but it is still very frustrating. I don't know what their problems are with retaining staff, but it is not professional and very frustrating for patients. read more

Two years ago I had a detached retina repaired, and now a cataract has form. Dr. Leilani Norton informed me that the cataract surgery could cause issues with my retina, which was scary. But she explained everything and made me so comfortable. She was amazing and did a wonderful job replacing my lens. The surgery went perfectly, and within 24 hours I could see crystal clear, with all the colors being so vibrant. I phoned this office on 3/6/25 to inquire if they accepted new patients (for my husband and I). After waiting on hold a long time, the receptionist who "assisted" me engaged in an argument re: making our appts. with an ophthalmologist vs. an optometrist. When I insisted on an ophthalmologist, she was clearly aggravated ... and told me there were no appts. for several months. My impression was that this office did not want our business. Given the negative phone experience, I told the receptionist that we would seek care elsewhere. She sarcastically told me to have a nice day ... and then hung-up on me. Just left my annual exam appointment at Cedar Eye Center. The doctor was nice enough and did a thorough exam. However, the women at the front desk were very challenging for me to work with. Two phone conversations to make the appointment; both individuals were not friendly nor helpful. They actually made the process more confusing and kept messing up my insurance information. I thought it was maybe a fluke but then my husband called with the insurance information for a 3rd time and he had the same experience. They were very unfriendly and clueless. Then at my appointment check-in and check-out they didn't make eye contact, smile or even verbally greet me. I don't expect everyone to be bubbly all the time but a simple greeting is respectful in a medical environment. read more

Recently had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Leilani Norton of Cedar Eye Center. I can honestly say that I was treated kindly and with respect by all techs and office personnel. Thank you all so much. The surgical prep and procedure were very well organized and efficient. On the day of surgery I was in and out of there in a couple of hours, with no pain, and I was driving the very next day after a follow up appointment with Dr. Norton. The result of all this is that I now have 20-20 vision that I have not had since my youth. I had barely passed the vision test with my glasses on at DMV when renewing my license a couple of years previously. In conclusion, I would recommend cataract surgery to anyone considering it. It is kind of like a "fountain of youth" for your eyes. Nice to see the world bright and clear again! read more

I tried to get help ordering amber glasses for sleep therapy and they wouldn't give me the information I needed. I get it, they want me to order from them; but they don't sell those kind of glasses, and telling me that I just need to suck it up and do without them was condescending and unacceptable. Horrible experience with Dr.Norton. I went here on referral from Marshall for my rare eye disease. All they did was take measurements of my proptosis and told me to come back in 4 months. Well yesterday I went back and turns out they never recorded my first measurements from December! They tried gaslighting me about this, telling me the only treatment would be surgery or an infusion that would cost me 35k. I wonder if Dr.Norton would pay 35k to keep her eyesight, because I sure would, not that she asked me or would even know what my insurance covers or that I have an out of pocket maximum. I felt horribly disrespected and the level of competence was also diplorable. Do not go here, ever! I highly recommend the optometrist at Precision Eyecare, if you need more specialized treatment just go to UCD and don't waste your money here. Also as others have said they have long wait times and a disorganized office, the entire office was looking for someone's lost lab paperwork while I was there. read more

When you visit the optical department to pick up contacts you must wait and wait and wait as there is only one person working and they are fixing and filling eye glass prescriptions. This place is consistently delayed. Cedar Eye does not care about your time. They will give you an excuse (running behind, short staffed, etc) but it will be *every time* you go in. Be prepared to wait around 45-60 minutes for an appointment that you were on-time for. The most I've ever waited in a hospital or dentist is maybe 10 minutes. Cedar Eye is chronically 45+ minutes delayed and has made no effort to fix in in years. read more

Well after going to Cedar Eye Center for several years and being mildly pleased with the service, my last visit has prompted me to seek eye care elsewhere. Dr Azevedo is great, caring, and a skilled doctor so it's unfortunate the staff (especially at the front desk and the optical center) struggle so much to make the business work. I can't even count how many times I've called to have my prescription corrected (the expiration date was wrong) and have it sent to another optical center to purchase less expensive contacts. I was willing to tolerate the long wait times and the sub par service but come on how hard to I have to work to get my contact prescription!! Not going back! read more

Ron Evans is a topnotch Ophthalmologist. He's caring, compassionate, very knowledgeable, and answers all my questions. Yes, sometimes we have to wait a long time after the scheduled appointment, but it's likely because he's taking time to meet the needs of patients prior to my appointment. He recently did cataract surgery with a permanent silicone lens implant in both my eyes, a week apart. It has taken 50 years off my eyesight - now everything is brighter, colors are more vivid, and I can see clearly without distance glasses! The procedure was painless with minor discomfort. I'd put it off for many years, disliking the idea of having my eyeballs sliced. But Ron Evans is highly skilled, and in 10 minutes he was done. No eye patch even! I could see after the surgery, though blurry for the first 12 hours, but after that, things cleared up. My life is totally changed - I can see stars at night after decades of not seeing them! Now I need cheap reading glasses for close-up reading, but otherwise, I have 20/20 vision again! read more

Update to my 3/14/19 review: I was surprised to receive a statement since I'd paid in full when Cedar placed my order. I called and spoke to a young woman in billing and asked what the additional was for. First she said "for glasses" (duh!!), then she just talked in circles not making any kind of sense. She couldn't come up with a single service or item for the extra charge ($25.00). Then she offered it had something to do with what my insurance had not paid. (Insurance payment amount was pre-determined at time of order). Why couldn't she just say that at the beginning, that Cedar made a mistake in the quote? "So you made a mistake?" "No, no, oh no!". I paid the additional charge and resolved to never go back there again.! They need better training for personnel. read more

Let me first say that these doctors are top notch. I love each and every one of them, how ever there office manager April is another story. I had an appointment with Dr. L. Norton today at 2 pm. after being taken back and being evaluate I was asked to sit in the back office waiting area. Come to find out later that Dr. Norton was in an emergent situation. At 2:50 not knowing this information I went out to the employee area asked the office manager, April, Who I could speak to in order to reschedule the rest of my appointment because I had to be somewhere else at 3:30. She went off. I told her that I had an appointment 2 pm and it was now 02:50, she said and. I said my appointment was for 2pm. She informed me that my appointment would take 1 to 11/2 hours. I informed here that I was not told that it would take that long for an eye exam. She was extremley disrespectful. Not once did they inform me that there had been an emergent situation with another patient. This woman was just extremely rude and disrespectful. If nothing else they need to keep there patient informed with what is going on. Our time is just as important s there's. read more

My family has been seeing a smaller practice since we moved here in 2009 but the primary physician retired and closed the office. They told us all of our records had been forwarded to Cedar Eye Center and recommended that we go there for our eye-care needs. I don't know how my old dr picked out Cedar Eye Center but it was a terrible choice!! Right off the bat getting an appointment is like pulling teeth; at least we were lucky and only needed preventative care and new glasses rather than medical eye care. I called in the fall (mid-Oct) and got appts in mid April. Next, when we had our appts it was a ridiculous ALL-DAY affair. At each step in the process a tech or other staff member interacts w/ you for whatever reason then you WAIT, and wait, and wait for the next one. It seems silly how small each job they do is too, many (many!) could be combined. At certain points in the process they put you back into their main waiting room. I knit - I brought a project with me (a pair of socks) and got a full 1/3 of the remainder of my project done that day which represents hours of work. The quality of the exam, both by the techs and the physician seemed adequate. The only highlight to the whole relationship was when I finally got to optical to pick out glasses. I had my heart set on a particular style of rimless glasses which are supplied by only one well-known manufacturer (or so I thought). The optics tech told me she simply wouldn't sell those any more because they are so flimsy and are constantly being brought in to be adjusted or re-mounted. She did show me an alternate brand however and said they were better in every way: less expensive, better profile for progressive bifocals and above all MUCH sturdier. (They were about 1/3 the price.) Now for the problems: I was told my glasses would be available in 2-3 weeks. On Th of the third week I called for an update and was told there had been some mysterious 'issue' and it would take another 2-3 weeks. I'm not stupid people, obviously someone failed to process my order the first time. Someone should tell these guys that the basis of trust in a business relationship is honesty - they should have simply told me that they'd messed up and would be fixing it. Finally on the last day of the second week my glasses arrived but of course the office screwed up again. After the original problem I gave them an alternate phone num (my cell phone) to call when they arrived. This directive wasn't followed either - as a consequence the message that the glasses were here was left on the land line vm. I was running errands when this occurred and could have stopped to get them but - no I had to wait for another day when I could add it to a list of errands. The real fun started when I picked up my new glasses! The frames were the wrong color (they were supposed to be blue not black) AND the Transitions were the wrong strength (they were supposed to be extra strong not standard). I called the office explaining my issues and the receptionist acted as if she could care less and said she would transfer me to optical 'if I would like'; what does she think? I'm calling aren't I? Optical wasn't answering their phones so I left a detailed VM - this was on Mon. Their message says they call back w/in 24 hours. By Wed night I realized I hadn't heard from them. Th morning I called again and once again I was transferred to opticals' vm; I left a somewhat heated message demanding a call back. Two days later someone finally did call, the house line again, and left a vm saying I'll get better service if I drop in. (Anyone heard of climate change and conservation of fossil fuels?) Finally I added a trip to the center to my errands and dropped in. Here I got lucky just once more because the optical tech who helped me was bright and efficient AND was willing to accept when they had made an error. She confirmed that the optical tech who wrote down my order wrote blue but black was ordered. She also confirmed that the correct strength of transitions was ordered but the error was made by the lab. She gave me one bit of good news: the frame would be shipped asap and the lab would make and ship the lenses asap then they would be mounted into my glasses at the center which would save me a very little bit of time. Overall: these guys suck!! Most of the employees seem to hate their jobs which I don't blame them for if half the number of customers complain as want to. Their system is broken - it shouldn't take so long to have an eye exam! Customer service is a joke! They don't care about their customers one bit as shown by the way they treated me when I had a legitimate complaint. Our family will be looking for another opthamologist before next years exams come around. read more

My wife had her eye exam this last September at Cedar Eye Center in Placerville, and purchased prescription sunglasses the same day. When the glasses arrived, the prescription was incorrect. Had to return to Cedar Eye Center to get a new set of glasses with the correct prescription. Nearly a month later, the new glasses had yet to arrive. We called the office and spoke with Liv, supposedly the supervisor of the vision department, and explained our concern that we hadn't received the glasses yet. She was rude and condescending, simply stated that it was out of her control, and we would get them eventually. Could not believe that this person is in a customer service role. Her problem solving skills and overall demeanor should be of concern to whoever she reports to. We explained to her that we were now in Southern California, and we were told that they would mail them to us at out expense. The glasses finally arrived, and were completely smashed and destroyed. We called Cedar Eye Center, and spoke with April, the Office Manager. She was semi-apologetic, and said that she would order new glasses from Maui Jim, and that we should have them by Thursday November 8. We still, as of today have not received them. Enough is enough. We called our credit card company and had the charge disputed and thankfully the funds have already been credited back to us. Long story short, stay away from this office. There are too many Optometrist choices to settle for such bad service. We should have read all the other bad yelp reviews in the beginning and would certainly have chosen a different VSP provider. Be careful regarding insurance issues. We have an HMO plan and they verified (via phone) it would be covered by insurance and then after the appointment and work was completed, they called to let us know that it was actually not covered (lessoned learned to call insurance company yourself). There's nothing that can be done other than paying the bill. This was not a huge bill and the right thing to do would have been for them to take care of their mistake.
