Dr. Steven Hoffman was incredible during my 1-year-old son's first ever eye exam. Although my son continuously moved around and was likely very hard to examine; Dr. Hoffman was patient, kind, and thorough, making my son feel comfortable throughout the visit. After diagnosing him with double astigmatism, Dr. Hoffman explained everything clearly in a way I could easily comprehend and provided us with options for the best path forward for my son. We ended up deciding to order glasses to ensure our son's vision develops as healthily as possible. The office staff were very attentive and approachable as well, and helped me to understand my insurance through VSP. I went here and Dr Lauren Anderson did my eye exam. Dr Anderson just gave me 3 options to see which lens are better for me then she would give me another 3 options. This is the first eye exam that I was not confused with the lenses are look the same to me. Dr Anderson made the appointment easy and she answered all my questions. For the past 20 years of going to see the optometrist I feel Dr Anderson is the best optometrist I have and I will continue to see Dr Anderson from now on. Doctors, staff, and my eye exam are an A+ five stars! Totally returning back to them for my next exam. Getting glasses filled: 0 stars. The staff and doctor at this facility are very nice people and I always feel welcomed walking in. My eye exam went flawlessly. My lenses on the other hand... Pair 1 (computer lenses): The lab they used sent my glasses to the wrong store TWO times, so it took SIX weeks to get my glasses. So for those 6 weeks I was using out-of-date progressive lenses for my daily computer work. I was happy to wait 2 weeks, but after week 4 I had difficulty focusing my eyes and had headaches. Pair 2 (progressive lenses): When I first got these a few weeks back, the lab had filled the order incorrectly. So back to the lab go my glasses. Today, I tried them on, and the left lens was wrong. So back to the lab my glasses go, again. At this point I don't expect my glasses to be correct when they return in 2 weeks, and I'm really disappointed. I totally recommend this place for eye exams, but the fact their lab screwed up 3x (so far) filling 2 pairs of glasses will keep me from using them again read more

Dr. Hoffman treats our whole family (3 out of 4 of us need corrective lenses). While I had always been pleased with the service my husband and I have received, the practice really earned their five-star review with the way the cared for my 4-year-old daughter. We noticed an issue and brought it to the attention of a friend who is an eye doctor in another country, she encouraged us to call our eye Dr and get her seen. Dr. Hoffman's staff worked hard to squeeze us in quickly. She was nervous because she didn't know what to expect but Dr. Hoffman made the experience a fun one for her while still providing me with all the information I needed. He had her back a week later to dilate her eyes and confirm her prescription. His staff has worked with us weekly to get her glasses fitting just right and they always treat her like a queen. Dr. Hoffman even checked the prescription of a pair I bought for her in a different location just to make sure it was exactly right. I had a horrible experience at this doctor's office. I went in for a routine eye exam and to pick out some new glasses. I saw Dr. Inouye for this visit. I got there right on time and waited for the doctor patiently. As I was waiting, I saw Dr. Inouye the side room gossiping with a coworker. I waited while she took another patient back and filled out my paper work. I waited... and waited... and waited... Finally, it was my turn. The whole procedure was about 5 mins and I was really concerned with her lack of attention to detail. When we were through, the doctor said, "Do you need glasses today?" Honestly, why else would I be there? I said yes, and she said "Here they are" and points. I could barely see as I was trying pick new glasses out. I was waiting for someone to come help me pick out a pair but they never came. Instead, they sat behind the desks (about 5 young women) and gossiped some more. I've been wearing contacts and eye glasses all my life. I've typically gone the Lenscrafters route but have had several experiences with Doctor's offices. Usually, I find the experience cold and uninviting. Not so in this case. The staff at Bob Hoffman's office (he's a cool doc) couldn't be more friendly. They're outgoing and accommodating. Not only was my service terrific but the exam was thorough. i got good, solid advice in a straight, no b.s manner. I got a phone call two days later saying m new glasses and contacts had arrived. I like this office. The staff is friendly and attentive and the doctors are professional, courteous, and personable. The office is in a Raley's shopping center, so there's no problem with parking. I've been going to this office for the last several years and I've never had a bad experience. There are times they are about 5-10 minutes behind, but I have yet to see any optometrist, doctor, or dentist office that is on time 100% of the time. If they are, they're not attending to some of the questions the patients inevitably have that put them behind schedule. For a private office, they have a decent selection of glasses, but not like Lens Crafters or the big shops you see at the mall. Their selection, however, is not bad. They have entry level stuff and I've thumbed though Gucci, Tommy Bahama, Ray Ban, and other "higher" end brands that I wish my insurance would cover. After my contact lens fit, they let me have a "sample" contact lens set without charging me, so I could decide if I liked the brand and fit. This is a friendly "small" office that could certainly give other offices some lessons on how to treat their patients. read more

I made an appointment weeks ago, all was good. I received a text on my phone with a link to click and fill out paperwork. Before clicking on the link in my cell phone, I called the office just to be sure this was a valid text. The lady who answered the phone answered normally but after that she was almost mocking my questions with her tone. It didn't feel right. Almost disrespectful in nature. After the call I returned to work but my gut didn't feel right. I know how to talk professionally during phone calls and when I feel like something is off, I should take notice. This would have been my first appt. here, but I had a weird feeling, if It doesn't feel right with the front desk person, chances are it's not a good fit. I called back to cancel. The 2nd call was equally strange, different lady. She asked me why I was cancelling, I told her nicely, with the last lady I spoke to it didn't feel right, she was almost mocking me on the phone. The current lady, said "Ok" like shoulder shrug. Not apologizing, no suggestion of possible misunderstanding. So weird. I made the right choice. If I can't have a civil convo with the front desk lady, then I'm not going to try to be a patient. read more

It's great because the appointments don't take up my whole day and they work hard to make your appointment smooth. I am a Kaiser patient, but have VSP for eyeglass and contact lens coverage. I finally decided to get fitted through someone else, because the rates at Kaiser are ridiculous! I found Dr. Hoffman through a friend and have had a terrific experience so far. The wait is never long, the insurance information is thorough and correct and the staff is extremely friendly. I saw Dr. Hoffman. I had concerns about certain issue with my eye. When I brought it up, he pretty much brushed the issue a side. I felt as though he didn't seem to want to put any effort into the exam then required. Also the pair of prescription sunglasses I purchased which were brand name was poorly made. While the office is nice and the front desk staff was friendly I didn't particularly care for Dr. Skinner. He asked me several questions whose answers could be found in the paperwork I had just filled out (that he had right in front of him). He didn't explain the change in my contact lens prescription. Nor did he tell me that the lenses he gave me to wear were bi-weekly rather than monthlies. I could have very easily ended up wearing them for a month and gotten an infection in my eyes. This was my first visit to this office and I can't say that I'm likely to return based on his inability to be thorough. read more

Moved to Sacramento from San Diego recently and I was looking for a new eye care place and I will keep looking. Didn't catch the woman's name but she was the reason for loosing my business. She was demeaning and b*tchy the whole time. (Even though I remained polite) I had questions and she just kept saying you'll have to ask the doctor And im like ok so wheres this doctor but she wouldn't even let me ask him a simple question without paying. His time is that valuable? I can't even meet the doctor or ask a question before my scheduled app. I ended up just leaving.
