Talk about great service! I don't know much about cars but my car was making this strange screeching noise when I would turn it on and then shortly after, the noise would stop. Initially I thought it might be the power steering fluid but that was absolutely fine. I called CGT&AR and Mike said to bring the car in. Not only did he tell me that my belts had to be changed out (they were due), but he actually took the time to show me where the problem was happening underneath the hood! As a teacher, I really value learning and was so pleased with him, his mechanics, and the wonderful job they did changing out my belts, which didn't take long to do. These guys are Amazing. I was told by the my dealership I need a new transmission but these guys drove my car and right away told me my transmission fine. All I need is 4 new tires. My car was acting funny because I had two worn out tires. I got new tires and the issue was fixed. I can't thank them enough for their honesty.. any one else would have try to make money off me. I've been taking my car here for a couple of years now. I've always found the shop to be honest and to do good work. Mike always explains the issue to me and lets me know whether a repair is really necessary or cost effective. Wow! Car broke down 3.5 hours from home and I had no idea what to do. I saw the reviews on yelp and figured this was my best bet. He personally picked us up, dropped us off at the train, worked to find the problem with the car, did the research to find the best replacement transmission, and even brought on a new vendor just to help us afford it. He held our car for 1.5 months because we were leaving to go out of town. While we were gone he found more problems, but feeling bad about the expense already incurred with the new Trans, just fixed them for free. He picked me up at the train station a few weeks later and helped me get situated. Most trans I saw for this car online were 7k-9k, he got our for 3.5k, saved me money, worked around my schedule, and went far above for a customer he knew would not be a repeat customer (as I am not from the area). Mike is a TRUSTED advisor when it comes to my car. He earned that trust. My story about how great Mike is. We brought our 2010 Mercury Mariner to the dealer where the car was bought for a standard oil change. Beyond the usual upsell, the service rep tells me "that sound I've been hearing" (I had not been hearing anything for the record) is a power-take-off unit (PTU) that's leaking, but not to worry, they opened it up and changed the fluid. And that the liquid was brown and the whole thing needs to be replaced and its $10,000 to repair...(*screech*) What? Oh, $10,000 to repair something that had no symptoms? Please note: the manufacturer recommends NEVER opening the PUT... Long-story short... brought the car to Mike. He drove around with me for 15min, taking the car through its paces. We did not hear a sound... he went under the car... there was no leak.... He found some tire cupping but that was about it. The car is fine thousands of miles later!!! This shop takes the car out after an oil change to make sure there's nothing wrong. They take car care to a new level. Highly recommend. read more

I'll start by saying that working with Mike the owner and his team feels like you have a friend in the business! A little over a year ago I purchased a 2004 Chevy van and after a few weeks many of the kinks started rearing up. One of the major ones was the transmission. I found this establishment online and was impressed with the Yelp reviews so I gave them a call. Well as soon as I met Mike I knew I was in good hands. He did an excellent job on my repairs (transmission, Front bearing and sensors). After Mike worked on the van it really became a pleasure driving it. It has been a little over a years since it was fixed and I have since driven it to Florida twice, Washington DC 4 times, Woodstock 2 times and just recently to North Carolina without a single issue on any of the trips. Over 16,000 miles in one year. I was kept well informed of everything that needed to be repaired along with the costs of each. Nothing was done without my prior approval and all costs were reasonable. I am a former New Jersey shop teacher and very familiar with the automotive industry. I have been in close proximity to Cedar Grove Transmissions for about a year now, but never had a reason to visit, until recently. After taking the household car to Garden State Honda for a recall repair and to get a very loud rear right brake checked out, we were told that we would have to shell out over $1100 to get rotors and pads replaced on a 2010 Honda Civic. The dealership used a scare tactic to get us to agree to the repair by forcing us to sign a document stating if we died or suffered bodily harm driving home, it wasn't their issue. Low blow. We were sincerely upset by what we experienced at Honda, so I gave Mike at Cedar Grove Transmissions a call to discuss setting up an appointment. The stress level went from a 10 to a 3 in a matter of minutes on the phone and then in the office. Mike brought me in and we just chatted about the options, quotes, what could potentially go wrong and shoot the price up, he answered all my questions. The transparency between Mike and his clients is extremely rare to come by in any industry, let alone auto and repair. He took the car in the following night and had it done the next day despite him and his teams' packed schedule. The cost of the repair was exactly as quoted and saved us hundreds of dollars. We could not be happier with the service provided. Cannot say enough good things about Cedar Grove Transmissions and Auto repair! From the initial call with Danielle to picking up my car completely fixed, it was an exceptional experience in every way. After our Audi dealer told us they had no idea what the problem was and didn't have the expertise to repair our transmission but they could replace it for an astronomical sum, we asked around and Mike and Cedar Grove transmissions came highly recommended. So we called and spoke with Danielle (who could not have been nicer) to set up the appointment and she had us speak with Mike to explain what the problem was. We dropped off the car off and Mike took his time and explained what he was going to do and how much it would cost to diagnose the problem. He said it cost any more it would call us. Two days later Mike called to tell us that the car was fixed and, luckily, all the problems were relatively minor and he was able to fix the vehicle for a small fraction of what the dealer was going to charge. Cedar Grove Transmission & Auto being a family business only adds to my positive experience with them. In short, Sears Auto in Livingston NJ closed permanently a month ago and we've been using them for the past 15 years. Of all times for our 2007 Lexus RX350 with 200,000 plus miles on it to break down without a mechanic that we have some kind of history with put additional stress in our life. We had enough food and water to last 3 months but if we had a need or an emergency we'd have a major issue with immediate transportation. The most honest and helpful place to get your car fixed. If something isn't working, mike (the main guy to talk too) will fix it. No extra work on your car just to scam you of your money like some if the other places do. If you have an engine light on, for free he'll use his machine thing to figure out what's wrong. I had the misfortune of having my steering buckle aggressively 2 days before Christmas. Given that I was visiting from out of town, I was surprised that Mike said he'd be able to see me the same day, just 1 hour after calling. Not only did he take the time to go on a test ride with me to get a feel for the problem, but Mike also lifted the car and diagnosed the issue the same day! He REFUSED to take any cash or tip and was able to provide me with locations that might be able to fix my tires during Christmas Eve, especially when referred by him. Extremely disappointed with the lack of honesty and shoddy service this place provides. My transmission blew out on my 2008 new ford with less than 50k miles on it. After spending a couple thousand $$ on a "new" transmission through cedar grove auto, I went on my way. After slightly more than two years and approximately 20k miles, the transmission that cedar grove auto blew out on me. After taking the car back and explaining that the transmission they put in malfunctioned, they refused to repair it for less than 1k. The owner was extremely unhelpful and unsympathetic. If you're looking for a transmission place that does a real crappy job with the repair of your transmission and that the couple thousand you put in will only last you 20k miles, this is your place. My reccomendation: do not go here. read more
