As you cross the Choptank River on US 50 East, you can see the park in the distance on the right side. Stay on the far right lane when you cross the bridge. Once you reach the Cambridge side of the river, take a right onto Byrn St. (which lacks a big sign) or at the traffic light (Maryland Ave.), then another right turn which will lead you toward the parking lot. We stopped by here in late December 2020 on a cold, sunny day. Inside the park, you will find clean public restrooms, the Dorchester County Visitors Center, and a lovely view of the river. The public facilities are open 8:30am-5:30pm every day. Parking is easy and free. The park also has a kid's playground and room to stretch your legs. If you have any family members who enjoy fishing, you can also walk on a path along the river under the Route 50 bridge. On the other side is a huge fishing pier!

I was so eager to see the horses I heard about, but weary we might not see any. Maybe we were lucky, because we saw sooo many horses! On the road, in the parking lots, in marshes, wandering, grazing, standing on front of cars. So cute! Stop at the visitors center first. Very nice place, helpful information, exhibits, a touch tank, bathrooms, gift shop and then you'll be on your way. Admission per vehicle gets you access for a week. We loved spending a few hours here so much that we came back a second day. The beaches are clean and not crowded. Lots of dogs, so be warned if you're averse. The marsh trail was really cool. We saw several small fishies, pipefish, crabs, egrets, just really cool to look in the water throughout the trail and observe. Bayside beaches are hidden spots for isolated swims. I saw a family here and there just swimming completely alone. The forest trail was also a good one to walk. More interesting nature. We weren't too crazy about the dune trail. Although, it was interesting to see the old abandoned road in the middle of the dune. Horses here there and everywhere, almost. Overall, such a fun place to visit. Go for a few hours or spend the day. Remember, ensure it's breezy and you'll be almost completely fly free.

The beach was crowded and the water seemed calm, which appeared perfect for family activities. My daughter and I were riding boogie boards not far from the shore, but I suddenly realized that despite my best efforts to swim back, we were being pulled out to sea. I panicked and waved to the lifeguards for help. They responded immediately, jumping into the water to rescue us. We visit beaches frequently, but I have never witnessed a more professional, dedicated, and vigilant group of life uards. My family and I are incredibly grateful for their life-saving intervention.

It's a smaller State park and slightly confusing with the direction's but the staff was helpful just get a map. We camped in a "walk back" section of E. Very spacious sites with the bathroom/shower reasonably close. Parking was "ok"..... but they fill up and then you have to use overflow. The bathrooms/showers were clean BUT I guess I'm used to sites that spray repellent because nature is boss. We drove through the comfort sites of D and they were too tight for my liking. They have yurts and cabins but for me a tad too close. They do have an Island camp site Loved it!!!!! That's a must do. It's 2 sites across a short walking bridge with water view and access. I would definitely go back.

I have stayed in the Heron and Deer Run camp loops and have nothing to complain about. The camp store where I registered my group went smoothly and the staff was friendly and comprehensive in ensuring we knew the rules and information about the park. The camp store also sells their local wood bags for $6.00. I highly recommend buying ice cream as they scoop generously at a reasonable price. Their late check-in process is simple as well as they'll have your car placard outside for you to grab with your name on it if you reserved it online ahead of time. There's plenty of things to do around if you know what to look for! If you're camping during the summer, you can enjoy a kayak or canoe rental near the camp store. You can also visit the nature center, walk the trails around, or go fishing - plenty of things to do! All in all, I would return - but would try out water's edge loop. I didn't realize it was so close to the Camp Store's showers and toilets. Highly recommend this place!

A short boardwalk leads to a genuine beach, one of the larger and nicer ones I've ever seen on the Chesapeake. Don't get me wrong, nobody's surfing on the little waves the bay generates, but it's still got a nice beach aesthetic and a good view. Several cautions are warranted, including the obvious risks of biting insects (not so much on the beach, but definitely on the inland track) and jellyfish. But I was surprised when a local told me that some of the marshy areas and the stream where a lagoon flows into the bay are prone to developing quicksand, to the point where people can get seriously stuck. (Unlike in movies, quicksand is not likely to drown you on its own but I still would not want to step in it). So watch out for that and bring some bug spray. Plant and animal life was abundant, and between the forest, the marsh, and the beach, there was a variety of scenery. So little of the bay is open to the public and preserved in this way. And this is not a park per se, and so unlike most state parks, this is free to enter. The parking area is small, and signage says they do not allow parking outside the lines, so visitation will be limited simply by space. But if you see a space open there, I'd take it.

It is rustic and beautiful with marshlands and wildlife. There are two hiking options. One is interior and goes in the woods. The other is beachfront. Both trails are great. There is one point where there is a small inland marshy lake. It is usually connected to the bay. The water here is usually flowing in or out depending on the tide. Be very careful trying to cross because the sand is soft and you could get stuck. It is remote, so you might not easily get help. The wildlife in this area is great. Sometimes I have seen hundreds of flapping rays just off shore. Birds, fish you never know. Fo and enjoy this special treasure.

This is a hidden spot in Delaware and its so beautiful. You won't find many people here but you will find your perfect quiet place whether kayaking, biking, crabbing, hiking, or swimming ( public boat ramp). The observation tower is the best view of the Assawoman Bay and wildlife . You will see lots of bald eagles, river otters, giant woodpeckers , blue heron, egrets. SMH why all those cars are sitting in traffic to go to the beach when you can go to the bay ? It's completely free ...lots of fishing and crabbing , sailing , paddle boarding and don't forget to bring the dogs because they are allowed here!
