When My Brother mentioned Kayaking whole on vacation, I did not really think I was into it. But after we talked and noticed so many tributaries,Bays and the Atlantic- it was on and all 4 of Us Brothers(and Nephew) had a really great time.

    Beautiful scenery at Blackwater

Rules not explained well by the kids working there. Lack of professionalism - bad experience. Happy to rip you off.

The gentleman who helped me was very kind. We didn't even buy our bikes here and he was willing to help. He even came outside to make sure I had put the bike rack on my SUV correctly (I didn't). He reassembled it for me and put the bikes on the rack for me. Before I left he let me know that the bike with the catching wheel wasn't manufactured properly and was dangerous to ride. I told him I'd be back after our Jamaica trip to get an e-bike. We went out for a ride that day and my bike was scary as hell to ride. So I decided I'll be recycling it earlier rather than later. I was discussing with my mom and she surprised me by buying me an e-bike online. While it didn't come from Trek as I planned, I'm looking forward to bringing it in for them to assemble. I'm sure the price is reasonable but more importantly they actually care for your safety while you're riding and that says a lot about the character of the employees. I forgot his name but I'll update soon after having my e-bike assembled because he deserves the credit as a wonderful human being and employee! Edit: His name is Eric! Go see him!

My nephew was just a kid and like me, loved having the freedom of a bicycle so I decided to give him my old classic Stumpjumper. Well, my nephew grew up and got a car and one day asked me if I wanted my bike back which I very happily took back. But it had been sitting in the garage for years. I originally took it to two shops in SoCal and they both said around $400. Didn't have time to fix it before moving to Arlington so took my bike with me and took it to another shop in the area and they said $800! I wasn't crazy about that so came here to Big Wheel. The owner looked at my bike and was like, $150-200. I was like, naw my bike needs a lot of work. Why don't you hold on to it and let me know? Well, he fixed it up and charged me $200! All those other shops were going to buy me new wheels. He was like, I took a good look at your wheels and they're old, but you don't need new ones. You can ride those out until they blow. Agreed. He also said he could restore it (my bike was filthy) but what was the point? It's a mountain bike. Agreed. So replaced some cables, a spoke, tightened up all the loose joints, oiled and ready to ride. I rode it to my car from the shop and it rides great! Yep, this is the place.

I really appreciated that they didn't just fix it--they made sure I understood what happened. And the little details made such a difference: they even asked me what kind of music I wanted them to play in the store while they were working on my bike. Such friendly, knowledgeable, and thoughtful customer service. I felt really taken care of and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend Big Wheel!

I happened to notice a bike shop right outside the perimeter of the Chincoteague National Wildlife…read moreRefuge the first day of our 2-day trip to the area. I made a mental note to myself - this place would surely be charging an arm and a leg for a bike rental given its proximity to the key attraction in Chincoteague. The following day, my wife and I decided to try out a rental from this shop and when we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see a rate of $5/ hour for a mountain bike. That was significantly lower than what I had expected. That was not the only instance of being surprised on a positive note. As it so happened, my wife wanted to rent a bike herself but because she hadn't biked in many years, after taking the bike out for only a few minutes in the parking lot, she decided against renting one. Although the owner, Michael, had spent a considerable amount of time helping her select a bike, a helmet, and a basket, because she did not rent one, he said that she wouldn't have to pay. I was amazed at this gesture. Approximately two hours later when I came to return the bike I had rented (and the child carrier) to the shop, I was expecting to be charged for a full two hours because even though two hours hadn't elapsed, it had been more than one hour since I had rented the bike. I was again pleasantly surprised to see that was not the case. If anything, they rounded things down *lower* and accordingly, for nearly two hours of having rented a  bike, a child carrier, and two helmets, I paid the princely sum of $9.37. That was amazing. Given the joy of riding the bike within Chincoteague with my 3-year old daughter, I would have gladly paid twice that but here I was paying $9.37 for this experience. Oh, I might note something else as well. During the course of riding the bike within the refuge area, I did fall down once. Essentially what happened is that as I was trying to avoid a car behind us, I tried moving to the side of the road but because there was quite a roll-off outside the paved path, I fell down into a marshy pit for a minute or two. Needless to say, our helmets had some of the mud stemming from that incident but when I mentioned that to Michael at the end as we came to return our gear, he didn't express any displeasure at us for getting his helmet and child carrier dirty. All throughout the entire process of renting the bike and returning it, I noticed that he had a nonchalant smile on his face. All in all, I came away very impressed with the bike shop and its owner. My view from the experience is that The Bike Depot personifies honesty and fairness in dealing with its customers while helping tourists like myself get more out of the Chincoteague area. If I ever found myself back here, I wouldn't think twice before renting from The Bike Depot again. Thanks Michael!
