I will start off by saying that it is true, that you cannot undo eleven years of an eating disorder in eight weeks, but you can walk away with a lot of knowledge. Through this program, I learned why my digestive system wasn't working the way it should be due to my Ed behaviors, I learned about nutrition, skills, nourishing my body, an anti-diet culture approach to health, and therapy skills. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with other pods (Washington, Oregon, etc) due to California's pod being small. It was great hearing the stories of others. While we all may have struggled with different disorders/behaviors, we all could relate in so many ways. Cooking group was originally intimidating, but over time it became my favorite. I also need to give a special shout out to the dietician, Lauren. I'm going to miss her so much. She made nutrition, cooking group, and the overall program so much fun. There were times where I really wanted to just toss my hat in and give up, but Lauren because Lauren was such a light during my process I was like well dang if I do that then I'm probably going to miss out on some good knowledge she's going to drop. She definitely changed my life when it comes to diet culture, understanding the importance of ALL food groups, and food freedom. If you would have told me I would have some animal crackers just chillin in my kitchen right now, I wouldn't have believed you. My experience at this program was great and I am eternally grateful for the individuals I met through this program and for how the program has helped me progress in my recovery. Thank you all!!!!

I've only been back 3 days and my life is already 100% better. My counselor is Candi and although I've yet to meet her (see you Tuesday) she has been nothing but accommodating to me. I had an immediate legal appearance I had to attend and with less than a days notice I told Candi of how it conflicted with my required daily check in and bless her heart she made a temporary exception for me to be able to attend to my legal priorities and check in later in the day. She did not have to do that and I was honestly expecting there to be no alternative. I cannot thank her enough what she did truly saved me. If you feel like you have no where to turn no way to stop no way to ever get back on track STOP. There is hope. I know it sounds cheesy but it's true. And it's not easy. Not only to keep sober but to even get the ball rolling in terms of getting into the program. Just make sure you have insurance or $71 a week and it is well worth it. Think about what you blow a day and compare that to just $71; there is no comparison. Come get in and stay in. Your life matters and it's not too late. Love yourself and allow positivity to enter your life. You deserve it. And thanks to BAART, you can get it.

I was really shocked at how great the admissions process was from start to finish. The person on the phone really made it easy to go from phone call to initial appointment with my PMHNP. The fact that I can text my provider's assistant about schedule changes is something that I have never experienced in the mental health space. The one receptionist who called me up first was trying to help me and be on the phone at the same time. She was very matter of fact. I think it would help new patients feel more welcome if the receptionist had a more friendly disposition, was focused on one patient at a time, and would smile at the patients when they walked in the door. I did love the medical assistant. She was friendlier and willing to answer questions. For example how they take your vitals. They check your pulse, blood pressure, and your oxygen intake. I've never had all three done before. I thought that was interesting. I'm a fairly healthy young adult, but I imagine for older patients that added info. would be critical to your overall health. They also encourage patients to get a Advance Care Directive done. I thought that was really helpful of their office to copy all the paperwork for it. My mom passed away at age 48, so I know these things can become important at any age, not just older patients. I'm going to try to get mine done as soon as possible. As far as the actual appt. goes: yes, it was a long wait to see the doc. I can confirm that. But it was so worth the wait. Dr. Karen Hart is sharp, insightful, and totally willing to talk about whatever your issues are. Do you know how difficult it is to find a doctor like that?! I've seen many doctors through the Kaiser, Sutter Foundation, and Mercy Medical group over the years. A lot of doctors are smart but have no people skills. Or they're nice but not knowledgeable. Only a handful stand out in my mind. Dr. Hart would be one of them. I felt she was very genuine and I was intrigued with the information she shared with me on my specific needs. I also know things might take longer to get done because she's only one doctor in this office. But I feel like she's truly a professional, and is very good at what she does. I'm looking forward to calling this doctor my PCP for quite awhile.

This is the "spa, total care" office of Dr. Karen Hart…read more I switched somewhat blindly because the doctor was listed as "family practice" by my insurance and the office was close to my house. The office does have a much nicer, upscale spa feel, which is kind of nice. Leather sofas, adorable decor in the waiting room and patient rooms. But for me, that was the best part. On my first visit, I was waiting for over an hour. Only one client was there before me and went in and for the rest of that time no one else came in. I was escorted to an exam room about 20 minutes into my wait and could hear the doctor through the wall with the other patient. I heard the other patient leave and then I spent a good half hour listening to the doctor make phone calls and talk to her staff. Once she was with me, she hardly looked at me and seemed incredibly rushed. She saw me for about 5 minutes and then sent me away. On my second visit, I specifically asked if I could expect another hour wait. Because I mentioned it, the staff did put a note on my chart and they saw me sooner, I was in and out within 30 minutes. There are only two staff members, and they were incredibly nice but not especially efficient. Wait times on the phone were painfully long, and they didn't seem to have their scheduling system really down. I had to have a follow up visit because my first visit was to order x rays, but once that was done I immediately switched doctors. I can see this office being a good to place to go for retired folks or other people who don't have jobs and who don't have any major problems that need management. If you need access to an advice nurse, need a doctor you can get appointments with quickly, or need a place where you can know you won't waste an entire day there, I'd look elsewhere.

I have had the great pleasure of meeting Joy but also working with her over the course of 12 weeks…read more Now before I actually get into this review, I want to throw out a few disclaimers...Joy does NOT have a magic wand that will magically make your issues go away. Joy does NOT have the ability to do your work for you and lastly Joy does NOT by any means sell herself short on the services that she provides. Joy, you are an absolute god send. Seriously.... I have been thru various counseling all of my life but that didn't resolve my issues nor did it really give me the tools needed to actually resolve them. So since I had tried that previously and pretty much got the same result, I knew I had to try something different. So, what did I do? I went to my trusty yelp and reached out and received several responses. I had a few phone interviews because I needed to find the right person to help me thru some heavy stuff. I liked Joy right off the bat. You can simply tell by the tone in her voice that she is an angel. I signed up for 6 sessions with Joy...and after my 6th session, I signed up for 6 more. And I threw Joy some crazy challenges (nothing in my life has EVER been easy)....there were issues that she flat out told me she couldn't do anything about (I appreciate the honestly more than you know) and there were some issues where I really feel like I challenged her but guess what? SHE NEVER GAVE UP ON ME. SHE NEVER TOLD ME SHE COULDN'T WITHOUT AN EXPLANATION (again she doesn't have a magic wand). Instead what I received was far far greater than any gift...Joy gave me the tools I needed to see where my deficiencies came from and also gave me some positive insight as to how to fix the behaviors and this is something I now work on EVERY SINGLE DAY and it's made me a better person. So if you feel like you are stuck, and don't know where to go, and you have tried traditional methods (and they haven't really worked) I would seriously urge you to give Joy a call...set up and appointment and more importantly work on your (O&*%(Q*&)%(. Joy, thank you again for everything. I'll be back after tax season and I've already started a list of things to work on when I return to your place...oh and Mr. Meowghee says hello!
