I retired as a vet tech and relocated from Phoenix to Snowflake, AZ. Aware that there were few vets in the area and uncertain about their quality, I approached the situation with some caution, given my experience in the field. Since Cedar Ridge is the nearest clinic to me, I scheduled an appointment there to vaccinate my two Great Pyrenees puppies. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of care and the kindness shown by Dr. Despain and the staff. I have since seen both doctors for several of my dogs and goats. I particularly appreciate the fact that Dr. Despain has called me when I have had random questions. I highly recommend this Clinic. read more

I have been taking my little dog, Jack to Dr Despain, since he was a puppy. He's 8 yrs old now. From vaccines, tooth extractions, to finding and removing a foxtail from the back of his throat and general health checks. The receptionist is always pleasant. The vet techs are patient and listen. Dr Despain is professional and answers your questions. I like him and his staff. Jack doesn't like the thermometer up his butt and remembers everytime we go there. Ha ha! He gives them a hard time, squirming and whining, but we get thru it. read more

The vets themselves are very good.. But a very opinionated assistant at this clinic thinks older women who dedicate themselves to caring for feral cats have a mental problem. She has no problem lying about the condition of an animal just to try and demonstrate that the cats are not receiving good care. I have never been so insulted and I'll never go back. read more

It's a real shame because now we must go to Show Low for vet care. We were happy at first until they man-handled my dog during a nail trim. We had been making great progress with her until this point. Now she won't let us near her feet. Then came the spay which was delayed by the vet because of another vacation. A previous appointment was rescheduled only a couple of months back too. Anyway, they tried charging for a dew-claw removal after telling us 3x before since she was under already for the spay and it was a simple procedure that there would be NO CHARGE. Once over the phone, then twice in person. The last time was the day of the procedure! This is unethical. Charges should be clearly defined up front, before procedure, NOT after the fact and not after assuring the client there would be no charge. Not to mention we were told there would be NO CHARGE... 3 times! While the office staff was courteous and respectful, the vet was a bit arrogant. Not open to other ideas from those not working in the industry. Just because a pet parent is not in the practice, does not mean they don't know any veterinary medicine. There was no follow-up to check on either of our pet's progress after spay. First time this has happened with any clinic we have been to as every pet we have had in for spay, illness, or injury, the vet has followed up. We are especially displeased about the surprise charge for such a quick procedure for which we were assured multiple times there would be no charge. We felt we were unimportant to them (only the money) because of having to be rescheduled not once, but TWICE in just a span of a few months. I also didn't sense the care and love for the animal from the vet as with previous vets. This clinic is not recommended by us. read more

First and LAST time I'll go there! I waited an hour to be seen after the receptionist gave my appointment to someone she obviously knew! I arrived on time and was sitting in the waiting room. A lady came in with puppies that needed their wellness exams and shots; she had apparently made a mistake and had come in earlier than her appointment (her appointment was after mine). After the receptionist and her chatted a bit, the receptionist stated, "we can go ahead and get you in now." As I sat there in dismay, she took the lady back; I was still sitting there when she paid and left. I wanted to say something, but didn't want to create any issues....I just wanted to get my dog seen. I had brought my dog in for a possible UTI and this was the first time they had ever seen her. She was really scared and I was comforting her when the assistant came in, who instantly started shaming me for "contributing to the behavior." Since when is fear a behavior? When the doctor came in, there were no questions as to her health (other than the UTI), her diet, nothing! They didn't seem interested in the dog at all!!! There was no wellness exam done (but I was charged for it). They supposedly checked her for a UTI, said she didn't have one, but prescribed antibiotics anyways...???? I have had dogs for over 30 years, and this was the worst care I have ever seen. I thought this poor service was a one-time thing; nope. We brought our other dog in a week later and it was the same thing as far as the lack of care....no questions, no exam, no interest in the animal at all. I know there are a lot of positive reviews for this place, but for someone who cares for their animals like I do, I wouldn't never recommend taking your pet to this place! read more

If you can get your animal in, they are great. If you're OK with an appointment for your animal days or weeks out, the care is very good. If you have an emergency or need a quick appointment, forget about it. They can't handle emergencies. They will, at least tell you to take your animal to one of the Show Low clinics, who always take mine in quickly. I'm glad for them that their business is good, but I have zero trust in them to handle an emergency with our pets. It's nice to have a local vet for planned out routine visits, but if your pet is in trouble now, you will be out of luck. read more

After making an appointment a week to a week and a half and being told to hold all food and water at 9pm on Sunday, we take our dog, Zoe, to this vet on Monday at 9am thinking she would get her foot lanced and fixed. They kept our dog all day and did nothing for her! I went in at 10:30 to see if she was done. Nothing was said about an authorization. I didn't think anything about authorization as I had filled out 2 papers while I was there, including having her nails trimmed. At 3pm, I called to see if she was done. Nothing was said about any authorization. At 3:30pm I called and told them I would be leaving my house at 4pm to pick her up before they closed at 5pm. It is an hour drive. Upon arriving, we were told that the vet had called at 3:25pm to get authorization! We got no call! Then they charged us $95.00 for an office visit-drop off!! She had an appointment and was not a drop-off!! I am disputing this bill since they did NOTHING for her. This was inhumane and incompetent! read more

Ten days ago I made an appointment for my dog to receive a routine shot so that I could renew his tags. I scheduled my appointment so that it would accommodate their busy schedule. Upon arrival five minutes early for this appointment, at the request of a sign on the door, I called the office and informed them that I was there and waiting outside as instructed. I was told that as soon as a room became available, someone would come and get me. While waiting, three other clients finished their business and left. About 15 minutes later, the receptionist same outside to speak to another client. I stood 6' away and waited for an opportunity to speak to her. When she finished with the other client, she ignored me and returned inside. Another ten minutes later, I called the office again and was told that my appointment had been given to someone else and they would try to work my into their schedule. I waited another five minutes and opened the door to see if they could give me an approximate wait time. Again, the receptionist was incredibly rude, inconsiderate and waved me off in dismissal. At that point, I decided that I would not wait any longer after being treated so poorly and informed them that I would seek another vet. There are several others with 5 star ratings within a few minutes driving time. No reaction, she could have cared less. Perhaps her employers need to reconsider that the first person their clients meet is how their practice is perceived as it is a direct reflection of their professionalism and caring for the needs of their clients. read more

You should probably have a receptionist that cares more about animals and less about the doctors schedule. I went in there yesterday morning asking about my dogs symptoms-I think she has an infected wound from playing with another dog all weekend. The receptionist didn't really listen to what I had to say and then just told me to watch it because his schedule is full. Today my dogs symptoms are worse, I called a vet in Show Low and they can get her in within the hour. There are some outstanding veterinarians in Show Low, make the Drive. read more

This is by far one of the friendliest vets I have been to. They were very Accommodating to me when I called and informed them that my labrador had torn her nail off of the pulp. They had me coming right away, and there was very little waiting time. While we were there we witnessed the compassionate staff take a very old and sickly dog and it's parents in the back, ahead of others waiting, to provide them the well deserved privacy they so very much needed. So professional and caring were all of the staff. They were incredibly wonderful with my dog, had her fixed up in no time and REALLY reasonably priced. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this awesome Vet clinic!!! read more

During the first week of July (2019) I think they closed the clinic so that the doctor and staff could have family time on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, my 22 year old grey mare had a colic episode. After I gave her Banamine she did not get better so I called Dr. DeSpain on his private cell phone. He took my call and stayed in contact with me. I gave the mare more Banamine and she was getting worse. On a day when he had activities scheduled with his family, he drove his truck out here to my farm east of Snowflake. He did what he could for Daisy, the mare, and she got worse so I gave her more Banamine. A couple of days later she improved and is apparently OK now. The point is that he stayed in phone contact and he came out here. read more
