While out camping my dog broke her nail. Blood everywhere, half hanging on nail this place did an amazing job despite coming in last minute before the holiday. The vet was honest and laid Out all the options and at the end of the day Their goal was to make her comfortable. They blew that goal out of the water. The vet techs took all the care to keep her comfortable while they cleaned her up and bandaged her paw. This is what a vet should aspire to. Again, I can't give enough praise. My Border Collie went in for vaccine updates and I mention he had a leg that fell asleep often. Very often. Anytime he lays down his right rear leg fell asleep fast. Dr. Snyder fixed in about 30 seconds. Since that appointment, 2 days ago, his leg has NOT fallen asleep. Up and down like he should. I was just there with my chihuahua.Boo boo eleven years old has a tooth laying sideways in her mouth.That's just being held with plaque.The tooth is already out of the hole.They told me they had to sedate her, and possibly they could break her jaw by pulling the tooth out. You can move the tooth with your finger.It's laying sideways out of the hole.A small piece of plaque is holding it in and it was gonna be very expensive.I do not recommend this place to anyone.We spent thousands through the years here.It seems like everything is an upsale and the poor dogs have to suffer.We are not happy at all read more

I took my cat in which I have taken there before and this was the worst and most tragic and terrifying visit ever. It started OK as I knew that my fur baby was probably gonna have to go on the other side of the world, but the traumatic experience I experienced in that room was more than knowing that I was gonna have to let my baby go. As I was sitting there, I kept hearing children running up and down, thinking that they were in the front where people sit while waiting their turn only to realize that they were running up and down behind the closed doors where the technicians work And the doctors. They were laughing and screaming Like it was a play yard. And of course I let them run Test on my cat so we could be sure. I asked for a price so they knew that was a concern. But the final thing came or at least one of the most traumatic parts was when the doctor came back in, she brought into the room with her child. No, I am not lying. She let her daughter walk into the room with her as she is ready to tell me. Tell me that I need to put my cat down like oh it was nothing I was in shock, and I looked at the doctor as she would've got the hint. She then pushed her out after she had already dropped the message to me, and of course, I was devastated in showing the emotions in front of this child. First, that is a veterinary office not a daddy daycare. Second, you had no way to bring an outsider into the room without asking me first I understand the technicians, but at 7 to 10-year-old child absolutely no way. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then after they have blown this into my face, I decided to take my cat home for the weekend. Yes, they did offer a tech to be on call and the doctor to be on call but when I got home and I thought more about this, why the heck would I call them to put my cat down?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unprofessionalism and more was well passed the anger hours later. Then, also before I left, they offered some medication that would help if my cat would've gone into a bleeding thing but after many times asking for prices along the way you think they would've told me they were gonna jam my bill with another $45.. I was so angry when I got home you think I would want to go back there or I would want anybody. I know take their animals there.. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vet and techs may care about animals , but they care nothing about how they treat owners.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Nor do I truly believe they have compassionate care for animals either. They all seem to have a hero complex acting like you should make animals live beyond what might be a quality of life for your pet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vet and the techs act in judgmental and holier than thou ways.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If it had been once, I'd chalk it up to a bad day. But I had three separate experiences. I had moved to another vet because I had taken a 14 yo old dog that had become paralyzed in her hind legs with no ability to get up to toilet, eat , or drink for a euthanasia. Rather than providing me any type of compassionate care, the vet acted like I was being heartless for not spending hundreds of dollars on tests to see what was wrong with her. And with no testing the euthanasia still cost over 400.00. I left that visit sad about my loss and feeling guilty for my decisions. So when I had to take another senior dog in due to an emergency I was worried. Visit 1 they charged 800.00 for tests, including a higher fee for it being "an emergency" even though I arrived during normal business hours and there was literally no wait. At the time the vet told me that the dog had a mast cel tumor which, according to Dr Ochoa, "are always malignant." She failed to notice how uncomfortable it was for the dog, and she discounted my concerns at how quickly it was growing. Nonetheless we scheduled her surgery for 6 days later. I went home with pain meds "to get her through the surgery" . At check in they went over the estimate and when I declined the 325.00 biopsy because "mast cel tumors are always malignant" and nobody could provide a valid reason for the biopsy other than to confirm its malignancy, I said that was silly since what we are doing is comfort care for her last months (particularly since the vet also indicated she is likely going into kidney failure). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tech who checked me in acted like I was not caring enough about my dog.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then the vet called after the surgery and again asked about the biopsy. But again provided no rationale for what we would do differently based on the results. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then when I picked the dog up the tech was going over meds. When I tried to explain that I'd been given those meds in the previous visit, she began arguing with me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't want more than was needed as these were considered a controlled substance that I had to sign for! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tech then turned to me and stated, "I don't understand the problem, I'm telling you she's uncomfortable" acting as if I was depriving my dog of her pain medication.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Well, the moment a TECH tries to tell me she knows more about MY dog and her needs than I do, the owner of 12 years... there is something wrong.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had explained I had the same meds at home (a week's worth!) . She simply could have suggested, she may need more, just let us know and we will refill later IF NEEDED. But instead she began arguing with me that she was going to need the medication and behaved as if I was trying to be harmful to my animal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Since I have never had to give a pet a full bottle of meds (unless it's an antibiotic), I was certain I had enough, and the vet had told me in the previous visit they were giving me enough to "get through surgery." So this attitude and conflicting information was frustrating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The worst part about this is that these children who are techs are unprofessional and immature. Our little Chihuahua mix rescue dog was viciously attacked by a large dog and received horrific wounds. Dr. Ochoa performed surgery on her but her skin kept dying and the stitches would not hold. It got to a point where there was not any viable tissue to sew her up so we had to let her go over the Rainbow Bridge. Dr. Ochoa tried everything to save her and was very compassionate. While traveling across the country to our new home, my beautiful chihuahua Pixie was sicker than we realized. It was just fortuitous that we were in Arizona for an extra day. We noticed that she was having labored breathing so we found a vet clinic that was open which was Alta Sierra Veterinary Clinic. They told me that exam and initial xray was going to be around $300 which I didn't care. I just wanted to know what was wrong with my dog. A few minutes later, the vet and 2 techs came in to the exam room; I knew that the news wasnt going to be good. The vet told me that even if they could temporarily treat Pixie she still only had a 20% survival rate to our new home. At that point I knew that Pixie was suffering and the best course of action was to put her down. It was so hard on me. The grief was immense. The staff at Alta Sierra was so supportive and helped me through the grieving process. They gave me a print of her nose and foot as well as a ceramic imprint of her paw. They even waived a lot of the charges knowing how much I loved my Pixie. It was so nice that they sent a follow up card to my new address and had everyone put kind words on it. Oh my, the staff here is so ver wonderful!! We were on vacation 8+ hours from home. They were able to get us in as an urgent care visit (it's half the price of the other guys btw) and they were so accommodating to all of my concerns. Since I had no idea what to expect I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful veterinarian who helped us along with the rest of the kind vet techs and secretary. My golden retriever got extremely sick on our car ride from SoCal to Arizona and I thought he might have caught parvo. It turns out he stressed himself out on his first long car ride so badly, he was having bloody stools. Thank goodness he was okay because, I thought he was dying! The staff was so wonderful I felt relieved when he didn't have to stay there. They did labs and X-rays and we did a more reserved assessment over the agreesive of fluids and staying the night but they did treat him while we were there. He had some extra fluids so he didn't get more dehydrated and he got a special bland diet for the couple days while we were out in the area. We are new to the area. We needed urgent care for our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Darcy and Maxx, who were suffering with severe and extended bouts of diarrhea, vomiting, unwillingness to eat and in our male, not pooping. We called our usual and normally excellent vet in the valley; asking to have meds prescribed here. We never heard back from them (that will be addressed when we return home in the valley). Alta Sierra'a office is two minutes from us but we had never required their service before. I loaded up the dogs and arrived at their listed opening time. I was surprised to find their lot full and greatly pleased to see their virus protocols plainly posted. They required masks worn inside and after checking in returning to your vehicle in a numbered space to wait your turn for a tech to retrieve your pet. Then the DR would call you on your phone to discuss diagnosis, treatment and estimate. As a walk in, we were advised of their extremely busy schedule and advised that the earliest estimated time for a room was about two hours but a cancellation had just occurred and they could offer me a 2:30 appointment and avoid the $85 walk in fee. I declined and asked for first available. It was nearly noon before the tech came out a got our fur kids. The vet did call after the exam and laid out a thorough treatment plan and a detailed estimate. We discussed adding an additional X-ray on the male to eliminate the possibility of a bowel blockage which we wholeheartedly approved. The DR told us to go home as the treatment would take multiple hours and she would call when the pups were ready to come home. When I hadn't received notification by their posted closing time I called to check up. They assured me that it had been a very busy, hectic day and they would stay until our dogs' treatment was complete. They were ready to go in an hour. The young female tech told me how sweet our dogs were and that if something was to happen to my wife and I she would gladly adopt them! The total bill was probably a bit higher than our country Vet in Wickenburg but as an urgent care issue was expected and confirmed to the approved estimate. Something in the provided treatment/meds worked because the dogs began to improve immediately and are now back to normal health. I had a free"Well Visit" due to adopting a cat from the HumaneSociety of the White Mountains. It was interesting that the veterinarian, Dr. Bell, studied the rescue paperwork while popping in & out of the exam room for over 30 minutes. The rescue agency had provided all procedures & vaccines. Finally, Dr. Bell decided that my cat would benefit from oral care due to gingivitis. I AGREED to have my cat injected with Convenia. I fell into the trap of convenience for me to just inject my cat with an antibiotic every 14 days that is not the 1st line of care or SAFE for my cat, but also into the income producing oral care. Not to say that making my life easy isn't good or that the vet has a business to make a profit. However, when it's at the expense of my cats life, I have a problem. Covenia may be fatal for cats. A veterinarian has created a Facebook page warning vets to not use Covenia as regular care for cats because of the morbidity. Therefore, that this wonderful practice uses Covenia is of great concern to me. Please educate yourself before agreeing to put your beloved pet at risk! read more

Still no response... i guess it's possible both of our voicemails got lost in the cosmic universe and they never received them but we had full service and called from two different phone numbers. Being new to the area, I needed to find a vet to establish service with and my preference is for female vets which is why I chose to go to Alta Sierra rather than someplace closer. It took 2 1/2 hours to do 2 wellness exams, Nail trims and blood tests for my two labs. If I use one word to categorize the clinic ait would be disjointed. The vet tech was OK about taking histories for each dog. When we finally got to see the vet it became apparent that At least some of the medical records I had emailed a week prior had been not been uploaded into the dogs records, But eventually they found the email and give the vet a printed copy. I brought up concerns about my male dog having a lump on his side and also that he was chewing his feet somehow leaving the area chewed hairless but without any irritation. After a very brief examination, The vet told me the lump needed to come out and that was the end of that conversation. And she did not address the chewing issue other than to say it was probably an allergy. When I was finally called back in the office to settle my bill, I had to ask for the medications the vet ordered for my dogs three times. I was not given any more information about surgery even though the vet knew I was going to be scheduling it, including no cost estimate and no pre-surgery instructions. The only thing I received was two useless health pamphlets that showed my dogs had shots and an itemized bill for the day services. There were no vet notes or diagnosis or recommended care at all. I scheduled the surgery, but the more I think about this I'm going to cancel it and try a different clinic. The staff at the clinic are all very nice and obviously love animals. But the lack of communication between staff members is unprofessional and disconcerting. All the vets that I have ever seen discuss potential surgeries or alternatives as well as giving a written document explaining findings, prescriptions, care to be given at home, etc. and this was not done at all by Alta Sierra. Staff at one point mentioned they had an emergency come in and that's why my visit was taking so very long. I don't mind the wait but that does not explain the lack of communication. Unfortunately I don't think I can go back to this clinic. read more

At the end of June, our dog got very sick. She was throwing up and had diarrhea. Her vomit had a red tinge that appeared to be blood. I called this vet's emergency line multiple times and had to leave a message. I never received a return call. Luckily our dog is fine now. We were on a month long camping trip when my dog suddenly developed HGE while we were in Show Low. It was just a few minutes before closing when I called to see if they could see her as an emergency and they graciously did. We were just minutes away from them and they got her in right away even though we were total strangers to them and they were closing. They could not have been nicer and the care and compassion was more than evident. She was promptly seen and worked up, given medication to help her symptoms and fluid for support. We all thought she would be ok to go home with us, but unfortunately an hour later had to be admitted. Again the staff and vet were just super and so kind to us and our girl. I can't say enough good things about these folks. They really came through for us when we needed them and I trust my dog is going to be just fine in their care. Why schedule appointments if it doesn't matter anyway?!? This is not the first time this has happened, and I spoke with others waiting who have had the same thing happen to them! The staff is always friendly, especially with one another, they're laughing and chatting and no one seems to care how long people are waiting! I am so not impressed with this office at all! Called with an emergency over the weekend & I was told they were too busy & too short staffed to see anymore animals that day (a Saturday 4 hrs before closing). I was not given any advice on care other than anything our dog could eat & keep down was good. Said more than once our dog def didn't sound good. Then she referred me to Flagstaff. I gave 2 stars because at least she was polite & because I still have compassion when people are busy & short handed. However, you should give specific instructions on how to care & get a pet to eat instead of just callously saying he doesn't sound good and then not provide medical advice. I don't recommend this vet. They told me Friday evening around 9pm my dog should be okay until morning. I waited till morning took my Belgian malinois in she had a blockage. I made them aware the night before she is aggressive they said it's fine they deal with aggressive dogs all the time. I got there Saturday morning with a tight muzzle on my dog only for them to ask to put another muzzle on top. They take her for X-rays and they scream at her NO LAY DOWN in the back room completely screaming at my dog that has a block. My dog is in severe pain and they scream at her. They come back and tell me they need to sedate her for the last X-ray that was another 300$. I get a call two hours later as I had to leave to goto work. They say she needs surgery but they can't do it I need to drive to flagstaff. Which I am so thankful for. The vet here does not have the resources to do a surgery like that they don't even know how to deal with an aggressive dog properly other than yelling. My dogs surgery went. The emergency vet in flagstaff told me to go to a local vet 5 days later to get her fentanyl patch removed properly. Alta sierra refuses to remove Amy's dog's fentanyl's patch and stated to take it off and flush it. It's disgusting this vet they had no problem taking my money but will have nothing to do with my dog because she is aggressive. You are a vet your staff should be trained to handle dogs that are aggressive either out of fear or pain. I'm so thankful this vet did not perform the surgery as I 100% believe my dog wouldn't be here. I'm thank for flagstaff emergency clinic and their staff of being properly trained to handle my dog's aggression and comfort her not scream at her during the pain she was in. Alta sierra is a worthless vet that says they handle aggressive dogs all the time but when they are faced with it they aren't. They screamed at my dog and told me how bad she was to the staff with two muzzles on. My dog couldn't bite anyone if she wanted to she needed help that I was turned away from. They should have told me Friday they couldn't do surgery but yet they let me come there on Saturday only to pay 1000k to be turned somewhere else (which I'm thankful for) My dog wouldn't be here today if I left her in Alta Sierras hands read more

Our little dachshund, Herman had a very sore toe. He had been licking it for a few days and it started to bleed. So we called Alta Sierra and were able to drop him off right away. An hour later he was ready to come home with the toe cleaned up, anti-inflammatory medication and a laser treatment. We got home care instructions. Everyone was so kind. There are a limited number of veterinarians in the mountain communities, and there are times of the year where they are too busy to take in any more business. Right before Memorial Day, one of my dogs suddenly had an issue, and I thought she had suffered a stroke, based on the symptoms, which were consistent with those listed online. I called just about every vet clinic listed within 50 miles, and all were jam packed. I called a friend that not only has used Alta Sierra, but recommended them to me. Her only complaint, and mine, is that since the business changed owners, prices have increased quite a bit. Then again, during my visit, there were probably 10 people involved in my dog's care. It takes money to pay all that staff. The staff was excellent, taking gentle care of my dog, who had been suffering for days, and they were aware of this. Dr. Kathy Bratcher was excellent with my dog, and very straight forward with me. I asked her direct questions, and I received honest answers, and her style was not just professional but very caring. I was aware that my dog might have a fatal condition, and that was, in fact, the diagnosis. Dr. Bratcher did advise me of all kinds of options, but also kept my situation in mind. Again, she was very upfront, and showed great care during my time of struggle and remained aware of my dog's pain and discomfort. I am very thankful to the facility and all the staff. It is obvious they are not there just to do a job, but they care for animals and those animals' owners. They were extremely busy, but took the time to give us the care we needed. I would highly recommend Alta Sierra for anyone's pet needs. The price was more than I had hoped, but I have the same issues when I pull into gas station and find gas is almost $5 per gallon. There is NO care shown at gas stations in this state, but that's a whole other story. read more
