My child went here for a few months and he was miserable every day and really resisted going. At…read morefirst I chalked it up to him getting familiar with the new routine and a new school but he never adjusted. He also talked about how afraid he was of the teacher Mrs Janelle. And one time even the teacher admitted to us that she let our child struggle to take the cap off a marker for over an hour and not helping him or letting him do anything until he did it, but he never was able to. Now that we've been out and into another school for a long time we realize how miserable our child was at this school, since he loves his new school and actually looks forward to going every day. The teachers are far too strict and cold towards the children and it was not a good fit for us. A few odd things. It was against school rules to ever allow parents inside the classroom except once a month by appointment. And also at one point the school had their full day license suspended or taken away. So they could not watch kids for more than a couple hours. We never got an explanation why, and at this point we took our child out of the school. I think most parents did the same thing.

Ms. Janell is nice but firm with the kids. She won my son's respect together with love. Her transparent and prompt communication about whatever happened with the school also earned my trust. I would recommend the school to other parents. However, if you expect your kids get spoiled , being held all the time and getting whatever they want in any condition, then this is not the place for you!

My daughter seems to love it most days*. Plusses: +Montessori - need I say more? If you don't know about the Montessori method, look it up. I wish I could have gone to a Montessori school when I was a kid!!!! Thanks to the Montessori method, my child has learned so much more than just her abc's and 123's - she is learning to read & write; she's even doing multiplication using bead bars and other tools. The children get to learn using tactile "works" and they are also taught Spanish, sewing and a whole variety of other skills. More importantly she is learning independence, and how to figure things out. So if she has a question or is curious about something, she knows how to start going about finding an answer. +Kindergartners have unique responsiblities and work - in addition to learning they are given opportunities to help with their younger classmates, which really boosts them up - they like to be the role model and show the little ones how a big kid should act. You can't get the same interaction at a regular Kindergarten, because preschoolers and Kindergartners at traditional schools are usually separated. They work to earn their workbooks, and then they progress at their own pace. There are very few children who don't progress quickly enough, but if a child has a problem with an assignment the teachers are able to work one on one with them to get them caught up. +The staff at Phoenix Montessori always seem to have a bright smile, and they project a loving, caring atmosphere so that the kids all feel welcome and at home. They work with you if your child has any issues, and they offer great advice when you need it! +DAYCARE & school all in the same place, so you don't have to fiddle with transportation... +For those who don't do the morning daycare, you can stay in your car and drop off your child in the 8:30 drop off line (Now if they could just do that at 7:30 I'd be soooo hooked) not that I'm lazy, it's just SUCH a crazy time in the morning and that would save me at least 5-10 minutes... minuses: - There doesn't seem to be much communication between the morning teachers and the afternoon daycare shift, so I can't really get a good answer when I ask questions about her day at school. But then, there are over twenty children in the daycare program, so I can see how that would be really tough to do. I still wish there was a passdown log or something for each kid so that a parent could quickly gauge if there are disciplinary issues that need to be worked on at home. -It ends at Kindergarten.... I wish they would expand to lower elementary! *A little history - my family has a unique challenge in that we are a military family and my husband is out on deployment 3 months and in port 3 months - the constant coming and going causes issues with our five year old who absolutely HATES changes of any kind... The staff at Phoenix have been tremendously helpful & patient everytime we have had to go through yet another transition. It seems to be getting easier and easier to get through our transitions, thanks in large part to the work the teachers do with keeping my daughter's school life as consistent as possible. What Z likes best about school: "I like helping the little ones!" and "Stations!" and "I like contracts. Cause there's pages in the contract and I like to do the work on em and color and and circle the ornaments and write things!" (A contract is a group of workbooks - once they complete a contract they have to establish a new one - and they have a set amount of work that they have to get done. If they don't get it done then they work on their contracts when other kids have free time - this really motivates them to complete their books!!!! (Z especially!)

We are excited for her to do her 4s program this year and even more so that she has a friend wanting to enroll also. They teach the kids so many skills I didn't know a 3 year old could perform. The self learning discovery style has been great. Teacher Cheyanne left and we will miss her. Nonetheless we are still excited for our daughter to have her next year here. Her little brother will also attend here when he's old enough.

The teachers are so mindful of how each child develops, it really does make you stop and think why it doesn't happen this way everywhere. I should also point out that our son is autistic and simply learns and interacts in his own way. The way he learns with the teachers and class mates is so organic that it doesn't even seem like he's being treated differently. And in reality I don't think he is being treated differently, which is exactly how I want my son treated. On top of the great staff, agile curriculum, and hands on learning... it's affordable. I'm sure you can find cheaper if you really look, but you will not find a better early learning experience for the price. Or for that matter, even more expensive options would have a tough time competing with this team. My child is currently 5 years old and autistic. Performing math at a 1st-2nd grade level. Reads at a 2nd-3rd grade level. And as a bonus, knows how to tend goats and chickens. Thank you so much Dancing Pines!
