For some time now I had passed by this restaurant a number of times and today I decided to stop and go try it out. Located on Campbell Ave, in the heart of Downtown, Roanoke, it occupied one of the most ideal locations for a restaurant in this area. It's windows were always very lively, lit up with many small lights and one red OPEN neon light sign. The interior looked very distinguished yet at the same time comfortable with hardwood floors, dark red ceilings, and black furniture. It was decorated with a combination of Lebanon posters and moments, as well as framed articles and Award Certificates of the restaurant. When I arrived the owner greeted me very warmly and invited me to take a seat wherever I liked, and provided me with a menu. My server, Mohammed then came by and was very helpful in helping me learn about Lebanese food and picking out the items from the menu to pick out. I ordered a Gold Peak Sweet Tea to drink, Falafel as appetizer, and a Beef Kabab Platter as the main entrée. The Falafel was the best that I have ever had, crispy on the outside and soft, moist, and very tasty in the inside; and with an extraordinary presentation on a plate. The Beef Kabab was very well maintained and served with grilled onions and tomatoes, accompanied with white rice and two tiny dishes with sauces, however I was very disappointed because the chunks of Beef were not at all tender, and thus very tough and dry inside. I knew that if they had been cooked medium rare, like I always like my meats, it would have been different, and because everything else about the food, ambiance, and service of the restaurant I enjoyed so much I decided to give it a 4 Star review with the hope that when the owner and chef read my review, they would pay attention to this very important detail, and next time I visit or anyone else, they place special attention to this, since when beef is overcooked, no matter how soft and tender it is, it becomes extremely tough and dry, and very uncomfortable to chew and eat, or even enjoy. For dessert I ordered the traditional Baklava and it was delicious. In conclusion, if it were not have been for the above-mentioned problem, this restaurant would have received a 5 Star review. But since I was very impressed with the menu, the ambiance, the awards received, the other food I ate, and most of all by the amazingly wonderful way I was treated and customer service received, I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt, give it a 4 and return once again. I urge everyone reading this review to do the same with the hope that one little but important detail don't hinder an otherwise extraordinary dining experience. read more

We'll, we didn't know about the hookah lounge, but we appreciated the hospitality and food at Cedars. My wife and I are quite familiar with Mideastern food, especially all the vegetarian choices. When we arrived, only the owners and a older fellow doing some maintenance were present. We received a warm welcome and we were asked to sit anywhere. I ordered a non-alcoholic, peach flavored malt beverage, which was reminiscent of cider--quite refreshing. After a quick once over of the menu, we ordered the fatayer (triangle shaped spinach pies), and the Cedar's vegetarian sampler--a generous combo of stuffed grape leaves, two types of hummus, salad, three falafels, and pita. Just a head-up, what we sampled is highly seasoned, but in good way. If I were to guess, I'd say lemon forward. One of the hummus dishes seemed to have more tahini than the other. Both were good--a highlight of the meal. The stuffed grape leaves were okay, and the fatayer was on the dry side, so we used the tabouleh from the sampler to add some moisture and crunch. The pita bread was forgettable--not fluffy and moist, but thin and a bit leathery. This restaurant has received some nice local write-ups, and awards. It's family owned with decent food, at a fair price, and definitely worth checking out. read more

I ordered through Uber Eats and I got my lamb kabobs and fried mushrooms but the extra order of toum was missing. Huge disappointment. Without it, the other items, while good were lacking. First of all, the toum should have been provided, as an extra or with the dish. read more

Being from a "heartland" of delicious authentic Lebanese and other Mediterranean cuisine, I feel like I know what to look for and Cedars delivered and then some!! What a hidden gem! It was a quiet weeknight while we were in town for a conference. The menu had SO many great choices we wanted one of everything! My group of five went in around 3:00pm, and it was empty - not an exaggeration, there were no other customers. The service was still slow - we later found out the server was 13 (I understand that the service could have been not the best because he was young but it is a restaurants responsibility to have good appropriately aged servers). We ordered the vegetarian platter and an order of falafels. The first thing that came out was a meat platter which was not what we ordered; they were kind and gave us the meat platter for free but unfortunately most of the food on the meat platter was not good. The pita came out and it was cold, hard, not fresh, and seemingly not homemade. The veggie platter came out awhile later, it was very small portions, and missing a salad. Most of the things on the platter did have a nice taste though. When we got the check, we paid for pita, which should be free with a platter that has hummus and baba ganoush. Wow. I've eaten a lot of Lebanese food and this was really spectacular. Everything was piping hot, fresh, and loaded with flavor. I had the falafel wrap subbing baba for the hummus. Too much food for the two of us but well worth the semi-hefty price tag because everything arrived fresh and perfectly cooked. The meat, including the white meat part of the chicken was actually moist and tender! Imagine that. Absolutely Incredible Service. My family is American but loves to travel and try different things. It was wonderful having a taste of Lebanon through this excellent food. It is my Birthday today and I decided to try this place out and man I was not disappointed. I got the lamb chops and they were perfectly cooked (medium-well) and marinated in a delicious lemony oil. It was incredible. This place is run by a single man and I have to say, he is the best choice for this job. He is an excellent cook and had a great attitude when waiting. I'm a big fan of Mediterranean food so that means I'm also very picky about it. This is the best I've ever had. They hand make the grape leaves and if you don't try them then you've missed out on a treat. I had the Falafel wrap and it was perfectly flawless. If you're in Roanoke looking for some great food at reasonable prices, head to Cedars of Lebanon. We were staying in town overnight on the way home from a weeklong trip. After eating out every night we were looking for something different. We didn't expect excellent, but that's what we enjoyed. There is a little card on the table describing Lebanese food, the main ingredients and cooking methods - a very nice touch for those unfamiliar with the cuisine. We started with Fattoush - the sumac dressing was lively on the taste buds, elevating the tomato, cucumber and parsley combination. For our main courses, my wife ordered the Lamb Kebab Skewer Platter with rice, and I had the Shish Taouk Wrap with tabbouleh. The portions were very generous. The lamb was perfectly cooked to medium rare as requested, and we're still trying to figure out the seasoning - whatever it was, it was divine. The lamb was also very tender. My Shish Taouk wrap (marinated chunks of chicken) also was delicious - tender, savory and cooked perfectly. We've enjoyed Lebanese cuisine for years, and this meal ranks among the best. Service was great, everything was clean. The overall ambiance isn't fancy - think "comfy home" style. At the moment there's no liquor license, but the cuisine doesn't need that supporting role - it stands by itself. (And the leftover lamb was still absolutely delicious for next day's lunch.) read more

We were in Roanoke last week during a drive from Nashville to Baltimore, and we stopped for a meal in downtown Roanoke. We enjoy Lebanese food and Cedars had tables where you can sit outside, so we decided to have lunch at Cedars. We ordered three cheese sambousek (dough stuffed with feta cheese, parsley, and onion), which were pretty good, but had a little bit of raw flour on them which made me feel they were either underbaked or not baked to order (they were warm and pretty well flavored though). I had the fattoush salad with lamb, which was pretty good (I enjoyed the sumac dressing), and my husband got the lamb shawarma wrap, which he enjoyed as well. The food wasn't super memorable, but it was definitely good for a quick meal as we passed through town. I can see myself visiting here for lunch if I worked nearby, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it. The service was good, and it was nice to enjoy the meal outside at one of their two small cafe tables. Not a bad meal! read more

Tasty food in a very old but comfy space. Friendly service from a young man who did everything but cook. Shish Taouk was delicious marinated grilled chicken on a bed of chopped tomatoes and onions. It came with hummus and as I didn't want fries or jasmine rice I was offered a tasty tabbouleh instead. Fattoush salad with lamb was also very tasty.
