    Hummus with Chicken Shawarma
    Alison M.

This spot has an excellent menu of of Mediterranean fare - my fav. We actually had dinner plans somewhere else but when I saw their menu with hummus and schwarma and gyros, I asked if we wanted to just dine here instead. The staff were friendly and happy to answer questions. I ended up ordering quite a few things - the hummus with chicken schwarma with pita, a side of chicken schwarma, a fattoush salad, a lamb gyro, tea, and then we had Turkish coffee and two types of baklava for dessert. The hummus was good and the pita was warm and fresh but it barely had any chicken so I felt wasn't worth $10. It was also served on plastic disposable plates for dining inside... not especially good presentation and horrible for the environment. The gyro was OK - good and large size for $9.50 and came with a side salad. The fattoush was $10-12 and was VERY good. Huge portion, fresh, deliciously seasoned and enough to share. This was the highlight - I'd come back for this. They have pastries and cookies and brownies and several flavors of house-made ice cream also. The Turkish coffee was good and tasted pretty authentic - our baklava was very chewy and hard and couldn't be cut with a knife/fork. It wasn't the best. We spent around $85 or so here and I don't think it was worth the price. Would come back for only hummus and fattoush in future.

So much under one roof! Coffee, smoothies, ice cream, amazing baklava, food Ordered: Fattoush Salad Have a little seating area in front and it was a beautiful fall day so enjoyed our food and treats and Roanoke

Joe was wonderful. Very inviting and recommended some great options. 10/10 will come here again. Came for coffee, left with coffee, an espresso milkshake, a brownie, and an INCREDIBLE walnut baklava. Breakfast options sound enticing enough to return. This place is a vibe and Joe is good people for SURE

Super cute coffee shop with middle eastern cuisine! I read the great Yelp reviews and decided to stop in here today. I got an iced latte and a za'tar bagel with cream cheese. The iced latte was too sweet for me. I asked for just milk and there was definitely some kind of sweetener once I tasted it. It wasn't bad, just not what I thought I ordered. The bagel on the other hand, was delicious! If you have never had za'tar seasoning, get it here! It is so tasty! The bagel had so much flavor with the za'tar on the top. I would definitely get this again. If I am back in Roanoke, I would love to come back! They have great middle eastern food options and I definitely want to try their falafel!

A bit of time here for a snack and to use their wifi and electricity to charge my phone. So I took up one of the very few tables inside (social distancing!) where there was an outlet. I got a quick snack, which turned out to be a gyro sandwich. And yes, I did have some of the pita bread (that needed a bit more baking). Nicely loaded with meat, onions, lettuce, tomato and tzatziki sauce. Messy and delicious. Cello has set their payment station back from the counter with a rope line and printed menus ensuring a proper distance between the staff behind the counter and the customers in the lobby. Coffee, pastries, ice cream and drinks in the cooler. Nice spot for a rest and a late lunch. [Review 13803 overall, 1124 of 2020, number 1237 in Virginia.]

Have come here so many times and they never disappoint!! With so many coffee options and flavors, I've never had the same drink twice! Would recommend that everyone try a Turkish coffee at least once! Baklava and desserts are delicious (and the house made, decadent gelato!). Definitely a must stop in Roanoke! Am fast menu

Cello Coffee House & Café has delightful Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, aromatic coffees and teas, and delicious desserts. It is a fun café to stop by if you are in the downtown Roanoke, VA area. The Chicken Shawarma Sandwich makes for a good light lunch with its featuring of Middle Eastern spices, tahini, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and garlic sauce. The Hummus with Lamb Gyro is a favorite appetizer for anyone like me who loves garlicky and zesty foods. While the portions are not that big, you can't go wrong with trying the Lentil Soup, Lebneh & Zaatar, or a Gyro Platter for satisfaction. As for drinks, I prefer a Strawberry Malt Laziza or an Iced Turkish Coffee. And for dessert, the Baklava selections are great with the Walnut option being my favorite. The last thing to note is the friendliness of the owner and his family. Every time I have been in there, the owner had a smile on his face and was very welcoming. He lets customers try free samples of his homemade ice cream, which is tasty. All in all, Cello Coffee House & Café makes for a nice quick-stop location in downtown Roanoke.

I love coffee shops, and I love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. This place has both all in one! Cozy atmosphere, and I love the decorated guitar. Just sayin'. I got the Hummus with Chicken Shawarma. It came with little pickles which were very good. It was worth every penny. I have never had orange sauce on my hummus before, but whatever it is, it is delicious. I can't wait to come back. Next I will try their Turkish coffee.

This morning I went to visit their Coffee Shop and see first hand their dream come true. It was early in the morning yet the owners were there to personaly greet me and serve me my Coffee. You could see from the sparkle in their eyes how proud they were of working hard to make their special dream materialize. And work hard they did because all the seating areas and stations were made by them and this gives the place a special character. I ordered a Cafe Latte and my friend ordered a drip. Their modern coffee machine made a wonderful coffee and they finished off by making a design on top of the coffee with the cream. Since it was very early the pastries had not yet arrived but I enjoyed talking with the owners about their new business, looking around at their creation, and enjoying the special cup of coffee they made me. I highly recommend this new Coffee House to the entire community as a place to come to wind down, be creative, meet and make new friends, and while at it enjoy a cup a coffee in a relaxed and comfortable environment where everyone is welcomed to hangout.

Unfortunately, a toasted bagel with butter had the butter on the side, and thus by the time I ate my bagel it was cold and didn't butter the way I wanted it to. Their chai was a syrupy but interesting flavor that emphasized spice more than sugar; at least, the first few sips were before I clumsily dropped it. No blame for them on that. Adding a parfait to eat later was a good decision that gave me energy for the day. I have truly enjoyed dining in each and every one of them. But Bread Craft, located in the Star City of Roanoke, is in a class of its own. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Bread Craft Bakery, located in Downtown Roanoke, is the perfect example of one of them. Bread Craft is a premier, artisan European-style bakery established in 2006 by owner Alex Eliades, who besides having a passion for baking, has over 25 years of baking experience, and leads the bakery focusing on traditional slow-fermentation techniques. The bakery is known for its high-quality, scratch-made sourdough, pastries, and Croissants. It evolved from a wholesale operation into a popular 6,000 square foot café on Church Avenue, also supplying local restaurants. The bakery specializes in Franch and German-style baking, utilizing sourdough as a natural leavener. It servers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, salads, and some creative breakfast egg entrées. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and are well known for running out of items before the end of the day. For this review I visited the Bakery / Café for breakfast on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area. A few years ago I used to frequent this Coffee Shop often and enjoy drinking my Caffè Mochas…read more together with some hot breakfast sandwiches there. As a matter of fact my main Yelp profile picture was taken there in that Coffee Shop. But during covid they put a hold on the hot breakfasts and only served hot coffee, tea, muffins, danishes, and cinnamon rolls. So I decided to return to the place to see how it was doing, see what had changed, have a cup of coffee and breakfast there, and write a review. I arrived early in the morning at around 7:00am, the time the Downtown Coffee Shop opens. A young man behind the counter greeted me and asked me if I knew what I wanted to order as soon as I arrived. I asked him if they now had hot breakfasts again like in the time before covid. But he told me that in this store in particular they had discontinued the hot breakfasts. So I ordered a Caffè Mocha and a cinnamon roll. As I waited for the coffee to be made and served I walked around the store and found that the area for community announcements and for people to leave their business cards was still there as well as some of the complimentary magazines, but not all they use to have. I also found that the glass built into the wall display case they used to have full of t-shirts, coffee mugs and tumblers was completely empty, to the point of looking as it had been abandoned. Also, the wall where they used to exhibit for sale artworks of artists members of our community no longer was full. At this time my Coffee and cinnamon rolls were ready, so I took them from the counter. Heated the cinnamon roll in the microwave and had my breakfast. The coffee was as good as always and the cinnamon roll was fine. Later I asked the barista about what I earlier had found and he just confirmed the fact and told me that in the other of their stores they did have everything that was missing in this store, which to me now looked like one of those abandoned old Malls after a new one just opened in town. I wondered and asked myself: How could a local chain such as Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea have abandoned their Downtown Roanoke store in this way? I know there is competition, but how can it compete with nothing creative to do so. This store is very significant to the Downtown area, to the Roanoke community, and to the tourist that frequent the area. So rather than give it a 3 rating, I will give it a 4, and give you the benefit of the doubt, with the hope that after the Management of the Mill Mountain Coffee Shop chain reads my review they put their act together and do what is needed to bring the Star to this Mill Mountain Coffee Shop again. For the purpose of my reviews is not to point out the negative, but to give constructive criticism so that both the store can improve and the community can benefit by having a quality place in which to enjoy a quality product in a relaxing and beautiful environment. A business should not run just to survive but to grow so that both the community and the owners profit from it. The famous Q2. Quality will bring Quantity. Come on, I believe in you. This upscale Coffee Shop, authorized purveyor of Starbucks, named in honor of the iconic 611 steam locomotive, opens at 6:00am, and provides a take-and-go breakfast as well as has a counter seating area inside with complimentary Wi-Fi as well as a few tables and chairs outside to enjoy a quick breakfast on the way to a meeting, or to spend some early morning quality time in a relaxed atmosphere with family or friends, while enjoying some good coffee or tea, with breakfast sandwiches, fresh bagels with cream cheese, or bakery items. I arrived to have breakfast on an early morning of the most wonderful time of the year and after having won the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award a week earlier, was looking forward to reviewing this very unique Coffee Shop, Eatery, and more. First of all I was extremely impressed with the interior design of the Coffee Shop. It is by far the most beautifully designed Coffee Shop that I have evered visited. The attention to detail was evident even before one entered the place and even more after. It was evident in the design and quality materials used to create and house this Coffee Shop and more. I was very impressed with all the gift items exhibited there as well, such as cute stuffed animals, tumblers, and fine crystal items, to name a few. Second of all I was very impressed by the nice variety of coffees, other drink items, and exquisite foods, made available not only on the menu, but also inside beautiful display cases, elegantly labeled by name. And last but not least, I was extremely impressed by the extraordinary customer service provided by the young lady barista behind the counter, who was very knowledgeable about the Coffee Shop and all its available items. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and a large Caffè Mocha. They both were wonderfully prepared and tasted amazingly delicious. I enjoyed them seated at the white marble counter facing the Christmas trees that decorate the Hotel during this Special time of the year. I highly recommend this Coffee Shop for a unique breakfast dining experience in a relaxed yet distinguished atmosphere, with wonderful food and drinks, and extraordinary customer service.

Arriving several hours before closing, I found only a couple of loaves on sale, and a long line to get with them. I managed to snag the last one that wasn't plain white bread, and thought I'd add a slice of pizza as it looked appealing. While the ingredients were there, the little toaster oven they used barely warmed it up at all. I ate it there, but I'd suspect it would have been much better if I'd gotten it to go and cooked it properly myself. They don't open all that early on weekdays and I've struggled to make it in, and on the weekend, they struggled to meet expectations. Perhaps on a different day, they could do a better job of getting the right baked goods into my hands.

So I never thought anything about it, and never had an reason to. But today I said to myself, I have to take the road less traveled and go inside. And when I did, I discovered the best kept secret of Downtown Roanoke. A bakery that brought me back to years ago, when I visited Paris, France. With beautiful original hardwood floors and exposed red brick walls, high ceilings, and wonderful lighting treatment, the restaurant projected a warm and cozy feeling with the right ambiance to relax and have a cup of homemade coffee accompanied by a piece of freshly baked bread, bagel, or danish; or even better, the creative discovery of the Sweet & Spicy Bacon with Caramelized Onion Scrambled Egg Pizza. Which I definitely ended up ordering and enjoying with a large cup of Cafe Mocha, which was only 25 cents more than the small cup. And was one of the best Mochas that I have ever had in any coffee shop, yet along in any bakery. The solid white with tones of black marble tables and black chairs, contributed to make the ambiance of the bakery the right place in which to enjoy a breakfast none other than those I once enjoyed in Paris, France. As I enjoyed my breakfast dining experience, steady customers came in to have breakfast as well, and many others to order takeout. One even came to order a beautiful made cake which they also pride themselves of having, as well as one of my favorites, the Peanut Butter Pie. And last but not least was the young lady server behind the counter. She warmly greeted me when I arrived and answered all my questions about this quaint local business, and many of its products, which were many. And who prepared the amazing Cafe Mocha. And brought it to the table of my choice, together with the amazingly delicious, first time discovered, scrambled egg pizza. I also had an "Asiago Bagel" with Cream Cheese and a Cherry Cheese Croissant. The other employees and one that I think could have been the owner, I was able to greet with my eyes and a smile, seemed so friendly and also contributed to make me feel at home. I highly recommend this cozy Bakery Cafe who also has wraps, hot paninis, sandwiches, soups, and salads on its menu to enjoy for lunch. What an extraordinary dining experience! I will never again walk by an unknown food establishment without stopping by and walking in. For it is those who take the road less traveled who discover and enjoy the best in life.
